History and Structure
More than 20 companies with more than 150 employees evolved from the company
"Gruppe Ingenieurbau München", founded in 1976 in the city of München in Germany. DOLI
Elektronik GmbH is one of those companies, the founders of which have their roots in the
weighing technology, processor system development and general measuring and control
engineering. Nowadays, DOLI has six partners, two of them managing. In 2013, DOLI obtained
a turnover of more than 5 Mio. EURO in three locations and with 35 employees.

Electronics for Material Testers:
New electronics for Screw Testers.
Existing material testers with electrical drive will be equipped with a new controller. If necessary, the motor will be changed, too. With this RetroFit, you will have a state of the art testing system with closed loop control. Additional appliances (e.g. Extensometer) will be adapted or DOLI delivers new ones.
DOLI retrofits all kinds of testing systems - independent from the producer.
Modernisation of Hydraulic Testers.
Hydraulic testing systems will be modernised according to the task and existing equipment. Even manually controlled instruments with plunger of an older style will be equipped with new hydraulics and a servo valve. Hence, an automatic test run will be guaranteed even with these kinds of instruments.
DOLI has been retrofitting testing instruments since 1979. And from 1986 on, DOLI retrofits with closed loop control.
Modernisation of Dynamic Testing Systems.
With the EDC580, DOLI retrofits dynamic testing systems, also. With the RetroFit, even testing with frequencies of up to 500Hz can be realized! DMA- and energy calculations will be possible as well as an analysis of the elastic stiffness. Whether static or dynamic – it does not matter to us:

PC-Incremental Boards
PC-incremental boards for the direct acquisition of four rectangle or sinusoidal incremental transducer signals. The PCINC4-board is based on a state-of-the-art board with eight additional digital I/Os. She replaces the PCINC3-board. The DOLI Compression Flexometer Family:
Standard (“Goodrich”) or Ultimate, manual or fully automated!
The Standard DOLI Compression Flexometer, known as “Goodrich Flexometer” also, still has the classic eccentric drive. But the Ultimate Flexometer is driven by an energy saving and environment friendly linear motor!
Both instruments are available as manual or fully automated version. The fully automated version, including a handling system for the rubber samples, supplies results without staff influence. Unpopular handling and adjusting is eliminated. Temperature measurements are done with the puncture needle immediately. Therefore, measurement errors by temperature loss are almost eliminated.
With the newly developed WindowsTM
Software DOLIFlex and its functions “Multichart” and “Calibration”, the DOLI Flexometer is completed to a versatile and easy-to-use testing system!

München : Headquarters, Management and R&D
The DOLI centre for hard- and soft-ware development can be found in München. This is the point, where all products get created and prepared up to serial production. Special tasks, such as testing systems or special electronics for customers are generated exclusively at this de-partment. 16 employees, mostly engineers for hard- and software development create solutions for the most effective combinations of new and existing technologies and the best price.
Using powerful software tools makes soft- and hardware developments much more
efficient.
Programming digital hardware in PLDs increases the functionality and efficiency, at the same time this means a safe of time and costs.
Separate Boot- and BIOS- programs enable the application of a standard interface from the software to the hardware as well as upward compatibility.
The DOLI Multitasking-Kernel and the Interrupt-Processing are the best conditions for real-time application.
Software Updates for the Micro-Controller-Hardware is done by a simple download into a Flash-EPROM. This is a big advantage in case of service needs.

Ehingen/Donau : Production In our department in Ehingen, we use a computer controlled production planning system to control the material management and the production.
The raw material stock contains more than 5,000 different electronic and mechanic components.
The components will get distributed and placed for the different production orders.
Following TQM-directions, we calibrate and check the processed componentries at modern measuring desks.
Single componentries are produced in advance, whereas complete appliances are produced in an order-related manner. This guarantees a fast reaction time on orders and a variable and flexible production process. The finished appliances and compo-nentries will be subject to an automatical final test.

Stadecken-Elsheim (Frankfurt Area) : Sales/Service
With its location in the Rhein-Main-Area, the sales department in Stadecken-Elsheim close to Frankfurt is much more centralised than the headquarters in München. This enables DOLI to serve its customers in a very fast and cost effec-tive manner. Hydraulic Testing Instruments
DOLI RetroFits all testing systems with single- and double-acting actuators.
The EDC offers new possibilities in data acquisition as simple acquisition only (control remains manual) or as a complete digital control system. Servo valves can be incorporated or retro-fitted, as necessary. Special configurations (e.g. connection of strain gauges at the front, as shown) can be custom built as required. During RetroFit all the electric, electronic and hydraulic systems are checked and modified to conform to the latest standards.

DOLI combined these tasks in the Test&Motion – Basic Software, showing dif-
ferent information in different windows at the same time. Our new testing program Test&Motion has been developed in a modular design. It consists of the basic
software containing a simple but adaptable tension/compression test and different modules for almost all kinds of testing applications. The special module “Free Programming” offers the possibility to design tests in an individual manner.
All sorts of signal sources can be displayed. Load, position and strain are standard, but other transducers or calculated results can be displayed. Sample diameter, temperature, scales etc. are possible as well as occurences via I/Os.

Dynamic Testing
The proper drive – with DOLI Dynamic Controllers
DOLI is developing controllers for material testing instruments for more than 20 years. The program for drive systems covers DC-drives, AC-drives, hydraulic components and nowadays linear drives, also. All systems are synchronized to the EDC-controllers and ready for use immediately.
DOLI provides you with: completely tested units with motor, power amplifier, controller and software.

Electro mechanical screw drives often replace pneumatic actuators in test stands due to their excellent controllability. DOLI-screw drives are designed for transversal loads from up to 20% of the nominal load. Common performance data is 100 to 200mm stroke, nominal load from 800N to 50kN and speeds from 100 mm/min to 12,000 mm/min.
Electro linear actuators are linear motors, which completely run without rotating parts. Due to their unbeatable high dynamics they are likely used for dynamic testing in the lower range of performance. DOLI presently offers linear drives with nominal loads from 500N and 2kN. The normal stroke from 100mm is sufficient for common dynamic tests. Designed e.g. with 5mm amplitude at 20Hz.
Voice-Coils (loud speaker principle) replace hydraulic pulsers and are characterized by a maximum dynamics and a most simple construction type. Hence, they are not subject to any mechanical wearout. Voice-Coils especially fit for working life tests of very small samples and for compounds in the range of medical engineering, such as e.g. implants or hip joints. DOLI offers Voice-Coils with 100N and 10mm stroke and 210N and 30mm stroke. Designed e.g. with 1.8mm amplitude at 50Hz.
Hydraulic actuators. Plungers are well spread in the filed of material testing fro decades. Hundreds of such testers run with EDC controllers by DOLI, some of them with new hydraulic powerpacks and servo valves. Differential cylinders and synchronized cylinders with servo valves are used for static and dynamic applications. With the controller EDC580V, DOLI again did a huge step towards dynamic. The EDC580V replaces the controllers from the last decades. DOLIs hydraulic „Know How“ brings entire testing systems back to state-of-the-art. EDC – the control electronics as modular system
DOLIs External Digital Controller is
a measurement and control system, developed especially for testing systems. Almost all kinds of analog or incremental transducers can be connected via plug-in cards. It is possible to process 16 channels. In order to serve all kinds of testing systems, the EDC family offers several versions and connection possibilities for all kinds of drives. Of course, as digital controller, the EDC offers a bumpless transfer between load-, position- and strain control.
4ETF – the card for static applications
The plug-in card 4ETF is a ‚carrier frequency measurement amplifier’ with A/D-converter for strain gauges, LVDTs and DC-Signals. It suits especially for load-, position-
and strain transducers, but is used for temperature and other physical quantities, also. The A/D-converter of the card is an integrating voltage/frequency-con-verter. The A/D-conversion happens with a resolution of
180,000 steps and an integration time of 20ms.
4FAD – the card for dynamic applications
The plug-in card 4FAD is a ‚carrier frequency measurement amplifier’ for strain gauges, LVDTs and DC-Signals. It fits especially for static and dynamic applications with a testing frequency of up to approx. 100Hz. Similar to the 4ETF card, the A/D-conversion of the 4FAD happens
with a resolution of 180,000 steps and an integration time of 20ms.

Sensor plug
Data of the connected transducer are stored in the EEPROM of the sensor plug. These data (physical units, nominal value, reference value, max. supply voltage, amplification etc.) will be read-in and processed either with switch-on or on demand. Display noise for static applications
The value of a connected sensor is allowed to vary with max. 0.002% of the nominal value (that equals 2 digits at 100,000 digits). Conditions:

Was macht der Zuschaltblock? Der neue hydraulische Zuschaltblock von DOLI erlaubt die kontrollierte Zuschaltung von Verbrauchern in Hydrauliksystemen.
Wozu brauche ich das? Druck und Volumenstrom des neuen Verbrauchers werden langsam dem Druck des Hydrauliksystems angepasst. Dadurch wird die Beeinflussung von laufenden Versuchen an anderen Verbrauchern durch Druckabfall wirkungsvoll ausgeschlossen.
Woraus besteht das System? Die Basisplatte mit den Hydraulik-systemanschlüssen, die Abschluss- platte sowie ein Zuschaltblock bilden die Grundeinheit des Systems. Zwischen Basisplatte und Abschlussplatte können bis zu vier Zuschaltblöcke montiert werden.
Wie funktioniert das? Jeder Zuschaltblock steuert die Druckleitung für einen Verbraucher. Er regelt den Druck langsam von Nieder-druck auf Hochdruck und das Ventil schaltet dann den maximalen Fluss frei. Diesen Zustand meldet der Zuschalt-block dem System über einen Druck-schalter. So kann auch ein Schlauch-platzer erkannt werden.
What is the aim of the substation? The new hydraulic substation by DOLI connects one or more hydraulic testers to a hydraulics supply in a controlled manner.
Why do I need this? Pressure and flow of the tester will smoothly be adapted to the constant hydraulics supply, thus preventing other connected testers from being disturbed by pressure drops very efficiently.
What does the system consist of? The base plate bearing the connec-tions to the main hydraulic system, a closing plate and one substation represent the basic unit of the system. Up to four substations in total can be mounted in between the base plate and the closing plate.
How does this work? Each substation controls the pressure connection of one tester. The substation slowly rises the pressure from low pressure to high pressure and then, the valve releases the maximum flow. The substation signals this state to the system via a pressure switch. This way, even a bursted hose can be detected.

DOLI combined these tasks in the Test&Motion Software. The Software shows different information in different windows at the same time. All sorts of signal sources can be displayed. Load, position and strain are standard, but other transducers or calculated results can be displayed, also. Sample diameter, temperature, scales, etc. are possible as well as results via I/Os. Variables are shown as curves in X- or Y-direction or are listed digi-tally. The variable names can be changed (e.g. load or F), the graphic can be zoomed several times and remarks can be stored within the graphics. If a larger view of the curves is needed, the graphics window can be drawn up to screen size. Due to the organisation in single windows, you have the possibility to move important values to a point where
you can still see them. Test&Motion - as a Windows™ program - serves all Windows printers. However, in order to distinguish the test curves, we recommend to use a color printer. All results and statistic values as well as all settings and data regarding the tests, can be given out selectively. You can print your company logo, header or foot line – just as you wish! Test&Motion consists of the basic software T&M_Basis and different application modules. All application modules use the basic software as platform. Then, they offer special types of calculation, the results of which can be displayed and printed. Adding the modules Free Programming and Flexible Flow Control, everything is possible! The EDC from DOLI can detect and transfer data with 5,000Hz, and the Test&Motion software is just as fast. For dynamic testers, we have the T&M Dynpack software. EDC580V and Dynpack control dynamic systems with 500Hz.

Electronics for testers
DOLI offers electronics and very powerful software for data acqui-sition and closed loop control for testing instruments like tensile testers.
The software runs on the DOLI hardware platforms as EDC220V, EDC222V and EDC580V and others. It is configurable within a wide range to satisfy all tasks of a testing instrument.
The communication between DOLIs EDC-system and the PC happens via USB or Ethernet. DOLI uses a safe protocol called DPX on this serial line to transmit commands and data in both directions.
DOLI Power Amplifiers
DOLI offers different amplifiers for DC-motors and servo valves. AC-motors and other drives are controlled by a ±10V output.
DOLIs internal digital power amplifiers can be implemented into the desk top units EDC222V and EDC580V. They are available for DC-motors with 12W, 160W and 320W.
The power amplifiers DC1100 and DC2500 are external designs for DC-motors with 1.100W respectively 2.500W. They are available for all three external digital controllers, i.e. for the built-in unit EDC220V, as well as for the desk top units EDC222V and EDC580V.

The external power amplifiers DC1100 and DC2500
External DOLI power amplifiers are available for DC-motors with 1.100W (DC1100) and with 2.500W (DC2500). They offer a digital interface to the EDC. A negative feeder possibility of 50W (DC1100) or 200W (DC2500) enables cyclic tests, e.g. spring tests. The power amplifiers contain the complete contactor and relay technics needed for a safe turn-off in case of emergency stop, softends etc. A function check of the safety relevant elements is guaranteed in connection with the controller componentries. The DC1100 and the DC2500 power amplifiers do not need a tacho-generator at the DC-motor, as they are controlled by an incremental trans-ducer on the motor shaft.

This totally flexible communication is thinking in transducer points. One point represents one step of an incremental transducer or one step of the total load resolution. Therefore, communication does not depend on the type of instru-ment. Using DoPE from DOLI, a DLL under Windows, the programmer uses SI-units, making the connec-tion to existing application programs much easier, while all the flexibility will be kept. It turned out that positioning commands in the customer application software will work after a few hours.

Tasks of DoPE
The subsystem is initialised according to the predefined setup data.
Application program measur ing data is given in SI-units (N, m etc.).
A wide range of machine movement commands are offered, including simple and complex commands.
Events like limit switch etc. are reported.
DoPE is a 32 bit DLL. A simple command could be:

The assignment of physical to logical channels has to be done during the system initialisation. DoPE can use the EDC setup for this assignment. The custumer application program is able to modify the EDC setup data, also. An assignment has to be specified with the connector number, the logical measuring channel and some transducer specific data. All setup data will be stored in the file system inside the EDC.

RTSS - the Videoextensometer for your tension tests
The RTSS is a non-contacting one-camera measurement system to be used with testing instruments. It offers real-time-image-processing and a modern, configurable and intuitive user surface – the RTSS Control&Analysis Software! The software comes with pre-defined templates for different applications.
As mentioned above, the RTSS works in a non-contacting manner. Hence, it perfectly fits for strain detection during tests inside a temperature chamber:

Characteristics
The videoextensometer is used to detect longitudinal and transversal strain at tension tests in a non-contacting manner. It offers pre-defined templates for different applications, such as the detection of crack length (e.g. with long-time-tests) or crack surfaces (e.g. with adhesive sealings).
It is used to detect material characteristics during a tensile test. It detects (non-contacting) the sample deformation and uses these values to determine e.g. the ‘load/strain’-curves or the ‘load/stress’-curves for determination of the Young’s Modulus and the Poisson’s Ratio.
The multithread-analysis-kernel supports multicore processors for a smaller processor load. Hence, it is possible to install the system to the PC of the testing instrument.
A wide range of accessories expand the field of application – and a robust case protects the camera and the accessories from being damaged.

RTSS (Real Time Strain Sensor) is a non-contacting optical measurement
system based on a digital camera and real-time-image-processing. It measures
the longitudinal and transversal strain between two line markers, that have been
fixed to the sample surface. It works with a maximum rate of 4,000Hz. The strain
values will be sent to the tester, either as analogue or digital signal.

PC board for direct data acquisition of
four rectangle and sinusoidal incremental transducer signals
The PC board PCINC enables the direct connection of up to four incremental sensors (incremental transducer, linear scale) to the PC. In comparison with an external electronics, this is a space saving and cost effective solution (an external electronics additionally needs its own box, power supply, mains cable and data cable). Technical advantages are e.g. shorter delay time, better real-time capability and more, simpler ways to assure the EMC-compatibility. Furthermore, DOLI Elektronik has build in some special features, such as synchronised measure-ment etc., that won’t be recog-nized with the first look. In many cases, a direct data translation between measurement system and PC bears advantages. Especially for the Quality Assurance division, where
measurement data have to be controlled continuously at the PC, the PC boards turned out to be a significant improvement.
System Overview PCINC is a short ISA- or PCI-Bus-PC-board with up to four 9pole-SUBD-sockets or 15pole-SUBD-plugs for the direct connection of four incremental transducers and one optional socket for the supply of a trigger signal for each of these four channels. The PCINC needs an ISA- or PCI slot in the PC and will be addressed via the IO-virtual address space. The basic address can be set in a DIP-switch.
The Windows driver program enables the automatic recognition of one or more PCINC boards in the PC, hence enabling the direct access to the functions of the board.

PC104-Board for the direct connection of two Incremental Transducers
The new PC104-board enables the connection and processing of
incremental sine signals (11A or 1V) as well as incremental rectangle signals (signal level RS422) coming from different position measure-ment systems directly to the PC without the need of using an external transducer electronics. The user configures the wanted input signal independent for each measuring channel.
The board has two forward/backwards counters, two data registers, two reference registers and two interpolators. The interpolation can reach a value of 1,000 and more, depending on the quality of the input signals. The factor will be set per software.
The PC104-board supplies the incremental transducers with the supply voltage of +5V.
PCINC4 Advantages
Synchronisation Logics. The counter counts of the channels are written into the particular measurement value latch simultaneously. This means, that even with high speeds precise synchronised monitoring between channels or precise XYZ-track measurements are possible. Furthermore, the synchronisation of numerous PCINC boards (several measurement channels synchronized) is possible.
Evaluation of the incremental signals (track A, track B, refe-rence): directional recognition and
four-fold evaluation.
Reference value acquisition without time delay. In addition to the measurement value latch, a reference latch is available for each channel. The configuration, whether the reference signal or the optional trigger signal should have an effect on this latch, happens via software. This arrangement enables a transpa-rent acquisition of the reference marks on a linear graduation or the precise position acquisition even at high traverse travel speeds.
