Regional Geology
The area’s structural control is NE-SW oriented and is part of the Quetame Massif; a set of Paleozoic basement rocks of the Farallones Group, on which rocks were later deposited from the Bata, Santa Rosa and Ubala formations, from the Lower Cretaceous and Berrasian, then the Chivor, Lutitas de Macanal and Las Juntas formations, and finally the rocks of the Aptian, Une and Fomeque formations in the Albian. These Cretaceous rocks are affected by left-lateral and reverse faults , verging to the E and NE- SW, to regionally cause slippage of the Paleozoic rocks over the Cretaceous rocks.

GEOLOGY
Local Geology
The area’s NE-SW oriented structural control is accompanied by a low-grade hydrothermal alteration in the Lutitas de Macanal and Chivor formations . The main structural features present in the area are: San Isidro - Quebrada Negra , La Colonia and Mundo Nuevo Chiquito faults, associated with minor faults and folds. The main folds are the Miralindo and Manizales alticlines, heading N 35- 50 E, associated with minor folds . ( Ingeominas 2008).

When Sta Rosa, Chivor and Lutitas de Macanal formations are hydrothermally altered by fluids rich in beryl, specially where Chivor and Lulitas de Macanal formations contact with eachother, is where we have the best chances of finding the best quality emeralds. This condition occurs in the Eden property as seen in the graph.

In the exploratory tunnels El Eden #1 and #2, the mineralization is presented as drusen, pockets and along veins and veinlets, which can reach up to 2.5 meters wide, usually with NE- SW direction, dipping between 60° and 85° NW, especially when fractures intersect each other. Mineralogical analysis determined that major minerals are calcite, pyrite, albite, quartz, dolomite, ankerite, fluorite and apatite as accessories Parisite, gypsum, beryl and emeralds. (Mosquera D. 2008). Clearly, mineralization is controlled regionally and locally by tectonic and lithostratigraphic structures.
