John Williams (New York, 1932) is ongetwijfeld de grootmeester van de filmmuziek van de laatste decen-nia. Zo is hij o.m. de vaste componist voor filmmaker George Lucas, auteur van de succesreeks “Star Wars” waarvan onlangs het laatste luik werd uitgebracht. Arrangeur Ton van Grevenbroek verwerkte het beken-de motief heel stijlvol in een vlotte disco mars.

No doubt, John Williams (New York, 1932) is the master of film music of the last four decades. He has been the standing or house composer of such film makers as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The latter made the most successful series of the “Star Wars” films of which the very last part was released this year. The Dutch arranger Ton van Grevenbroek arranged the popular main theme into a refined disco march.

John Williams (New York, 1932) is bestimmt der große Meister der Filmmusik der letzetn vier Dezennien. So ist er der ständige Komponist der Filmer Steven Spielberg und George Lucas. Letzterer machte die ganz erfolgreiche Reihe von „Star Wars“ Filmen, von denen der letzte Teil 2005 herausgebracht worden ist. Der niederländische Arrangeur Ton van Grevenbroek hat das Hauptthema in einen geschmackvollen Disco Marsch eingearbeitet

Sans nul doute, John Williams (New-York, 1932) est le maître incontesté de la musique de films des quatre dernières décennies. Ainsi, il est le compositeur attitré des cinéastes Steven Spielberg et de George Lucas. Ce dernier est l’auteur de la série à grand succès de ‘La Guerre des Etoiles’ dont le tout dernier volet vient de sortir. L’arrangeur néerlandais Ton van Grevenbroek a arrangé avec bon goût le thème immortel de cette série sous forme d’une marche disco.

Een lekker swingend typisch bigband nummer met krachtige ritmische en melodische percussie en elektrische basgitaar. Een werkje waar je niet rustig blijft bij zitten, maat waar je echt zin krijgt om de dansvloer op te gaan. De saxofoon en de trompet komen mooi solistisch aan bod. Peter Feigel, dirigent van de Berlijnse Po-litiekapel zorgde voor een puike orkestratie.

A fine swinging typical big band number with a powerful rhythmical and melodic percussion and also the electrical bass guitar. A piece that will turn you on and give you a mind to start dancing. The saxophone and the trumpet do some nice solo work. Peter Feigel, conductor of the Berlin Police Band made this fine orchestration.

Eine typische swingende Bigband Nummer mit kräftiger rhythmischer und melodischer Perkussion und die elektrische Bassgitarre dazu. Ein reizendes Stück, das gleich zum Tanzen einlädt. Es gibt schöne Soli für Sa-xofon und Trompete. Peter Feigel, Dirigent des Berliner Polizeiorchesters schrieb die schöne Orchestrierung für sinfonisches Blasorchester.

Un morceau typique pour big band qui swingue fort bien, avec une percussion fortement rythmée et éga-lement mélodique, sans oublier la guitare basse électrique. Une composition qui empêchera vos auditeurs de rester tranquilles, car ils auront envie de danser.. Le saxophone et la trompette interprètent de beaux solos. La belle orchestration pour orchestre d’harmonie a été écrite par Peter Feigel, chef de la Musique de la Police de Berlin.

De Belgische arrangeur Peter Laine gebruikt zijn enorme ervaring in de internationale wereld van de lich-te muziek om het moderne repertoire voor harmonieorkest met o.m. steengoede jazz stukken te verrijken. Church Street Blues (“That good old blues”) is een onvervalste blues die het harmonieorkest in deze bewer-king als het ware op het lijf geschreven is. Ideaal om eens een “echte” blues met uw orkest te brengen; niet echt nostalgie, maar echt puur muzikaal genieten!

The Belgian arranger Peter Laine uses his rich experience in the world of the international entertainment music to provide the actual symphonic band repertoire with excellent pieces, even very fine jazz pieces. Church Street Blues (“That good old blues”) is an authentic blues composition which seems to be made for wind band. Here is an opportunity to play a real blues with your wind band; not necessarily nostalgia, but real musical pleasure and enjoyment.

Der belgische Arrangeur Peter Laine verwendete seine enorme Erfahrung in der internationalen Welt der Unterhaltungsmusik um das moderne Repertoire des Sinfonischen Blasorchesters mit reizenden gegenwär-tigen Kompositionen – unter denen authentische Jazzmusik – zu erweiteren. Dit succesnummer van Mills en Ellington behoorde tot het standaardrepertoire van deDuke Ellington band. De volledige titel luidt: ‘It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing’. Bekend is de legendarische uitvoe-ring door Louis Armstrong met Duke Ellington (1899-1974) op de fameuze ‘Great Reunion’ plaat in april 1961 in New-York opgenomen.

This successful tune composed by Mills and Ellington belonged to the repertoire of the Duke Ellington Band, the complete title being ‘It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing’. All jazz fans certainly remember the legendary version on the record ‘The Great Reunion’, recorded in New-York in April 1961 by Duke El-lington (1899-1974) with the Louis Armstrong Band.

Dieses bekannte Jazzstück von Mills und Ellington gehörte zum Standardrepertoire des Duke Ellington Or-chesters. Der vollständige Titel lautet ‚It don‘t mean a thing if you ain‘t got that swing‘. Een swingende ‘uptempo’ Boogie Woogie, de voorloper van de rock and roll. De Boogie Woogie is de dans die in de jaren ‘40 door de Amerikaanse soldaten werd geïntroduceerd. Ideaal voor concerten waarbij dansers in hun petticoats, vetkuiven en jaren ‘50 kleding op het podium staan.

Here you have a swinging ‘up-tempo’ Boogie, the predecessor of rock and roll. The Boogie Woogie is a dance that was introduced in Europe by the American soldiers in the forties. This is an ideal piece to perform at a concert with dancers dressed in petticoats and other outfits of the fifties.

Hier ist ein swingender ‘Up-Tempo’ Boogie Woogie, der Vorläufer des Rock and Roll. Der Boogie Woogie ist ein Tanz den die amerikanischen Soldaten in den vierziger Jahren nach Europa brachten. Ein ganz geeig-netes Konzertstück das man auf wirkungsvoller Weise mit Tänzern und Tänzerinnen in altmodischer Kleidung der fünfziger Jahren ausführen kann.

Voici un Boogie Woogie plein de swing et de rythme, le précurseur du rock and roll. Le Boogie Woogie est une danse introduite par les soldats américains dans les années quarante en Europe. Samen met Lorenz Hart (zijn enige tekstschrijver gedurende 25 jaar!) schreef Richard Rodgers een reeks bekende musicals (27 in totaal) zoals o.m. ‘Babes in Arms’ in 1937. Dit spektakel bevatte diverse songs die heel bekend werden zoals het lyrische My Funny Valentine en het gesofisticeerde The Lady is a Tramp. Dit laatste lied werd een heel groot succes op het repertoire van ‘The Voice Frank Sinatra’.

Richard Rodgers collaborated for 25 years exclusively with lyricist Lorentz Hart and they created 27 famous musicals such as ‘Babes in Arms’ in 1937. This show boasts several songs that became extremely popular such ad Funny Valentine and the more sophisticated song The Lady is a Tramp which was of the successful songs on Frank Sinatra’s repertoire.

Zusammen mit Lorenz Hart, seinem einzigen Textdichter während 25 Jahre, schrieb Richard Rodgers 27 Musicals. Das 1937 komponierte Musical ‘Babes in Arms’ enthielt verschiedene sehr populäre Songs wie das lyrische Lied My Funny Valentine und das mehr frivole Lied The Lady is a Tramp das besonders viel Erfolg kannte wenn es in das Repertoire von Frank Sinatra aufgenommen wurde.

Richard Rodgers a collaboré durant 25 ans avec le librettiste Lorenz Hart. Ensemble ils ont produit 27 comédies musicales dont ‘Babes in Arms’ 1937). Cette comédie contient plusieurs chansons très connues telles Funny Valentine et la chanson sophistiquée The Lady is a Tramp (La Dame est une Clocharde). The Jim Croce hit streak began in 1972, with ‘in April 1973, he introduced his most famous character, ‘Bad, Bad Leroy Brown’. A swinging evergreen, beautifully arranged for fanfare and concert band.

1972 war der große Durchbruch für Jim Croce mit den Hits ‚You don‘t mess around with Jim’ und ‘Operator then’. Im April 1973 führte er seine bekannteste Gestalt „Bad, Bad Leroy Brown“ ein. Dieses Stück ist ein wahrhafter swingender Evergreen in einem schönen Arrangement für Blasorchester.

Peter Kleine Schaars verwerkte diverse bekende successen tot een leuke medley.

Gloria Estefan is a most successful latin singer of Cuban origin. She scored an impressive series of hits with the group ‘Miami Sound Machine’ in the eighties and nineties. Songs such as ‘Dr.Beat’ and ‘Conga’ became great successes in Europe. In 1993 a new successful record in Spanish ‘Mi Tierra’, with a.o. some typical salsa tunes, was released. Peter Kleine Schaars arranged several of the singer’s most popular tunes into a fine and pleasant medley.

“1492 Conquest of Paradise” is a historical movie picture made by Ridley Scott in 1992, exactly 500 years after the discovery of the American continent. This film music composed by Vangelis became world famous. This arrangement is most efficient, especially in combination with an (optional) choir.

Ongetwijfeld een groot succes en wellicht krijg je jouw pu-bliek aan het zingen.

The German hit „Gute Nacht, Freunde“ (Good Night, my friends) was written in 1971 by Alfons Yondras-check who both wrote the music and the lyrics. It was most skilfully arranged for symphonic band by Marcel Peeters who knows the tricks of the trade! This piece will please to all audiences.

Der zeitlose Schlager „Gute Nacht, Freunde“ wurde 1971 von Alfons Yondrascheck (der auch den Text schrieb) komponiert. Robie Williams maakte een gelijknamige song waarmee hij in juli 2000 de top van de internationale hitparade bereikte en die hij nadien in zijn kortfilm “Rob by Nature” gebruikte.

Mandalay, the cultural capital of Burma, was very seriously damaged by bombings of the Allied Forces during the Second World War. “The Road to Mandalay” has been a kind of oriental symbol, which was also used in literature, e.g. by Rudyard Kipling. Robie Williams made a song with the same name and in July 2000 it reached the top of the international hit parade. Afterwards, he used it as part of the soundtrack of his short movie picture “Rob by Nature”

Ton van Grevenbroek wrote several arrangements of the very popular hits by the Alan Parsons Project, for wind band combined with a pop group (2 guitars and bass guitar) and piano. Just like “Old and Wise” and several other songs, the Alan Parsons hit Silence and I became extremely popular all over the world. Of course, the vocal part could not fail. This arrangement will be a big success that will certainly appeal to young audiences.

Ton van Grevenbroek machte verschiedene Arrangements von den ganz populären Hits vom Alan Parson Project für Sinfonisches Blasorchester in Kombination mit einer Popgruppe (2 Gitarren und Bassgitarre) und Klavier. Gerade wie u.a. „Old and Wise“, wurde der Hit Silence and I besonders populär. Selbstverständ-lich fehlt die Singstimme (Vocal) mit dem Originaltext nicht. No pop music group whatsoever was more popular than “The Beatles”, founded in 1959 by those four boys from Liverpool. In the meantime, the music by John Lennon and Paul Mc Cartney has become immortal. Johan de Meij arranged, with his usual gift, some of their songs. This precious “Collection” consists of the really famous hit Hey Jude and the somewhat less known fine tunes Marthamy Dear, The Fool on the Hill and Norwegian Mood.

Es gab keine einzige Beatgruppe die je erfolgreicherwar als„The Beatles“,eine 1959 von vier jungen Män-nern aus Liverpool gegründete Band. Inzwischen ist die Musik von John Lennon und Paul Mc Cartney sogar unsterblich geworden. Mit seiner üblichen großen Begabung als Arrangeur, bearbeitete Johan deMeij eini-ge Titel zu einer waschechten „Beatles Sammlung“. Neben dem sehr bekannten hit Hey Jude hört man auch Marthamy Dear, The Fool on the Hill und Norwegian Mood.

In 1974 he started a career as a solo singer and had quite some success with hits like“Mandy, I write the Songs”,“One Voice”and this Copacabana, a Latin-American sounding fine swinging piece, skilfully arranged by Johan de Meij. The infernal and extremely rhythmical “Samba di Janeiro” was a hit made popular by the group Bellini years ago. A driving and exotic sounding percussion introduction is followed by a most compelling theme that everybody recognises at once and that will make you jump up and dance. The rather quiet, mesmeris-ing, middle part aims to let you catch your breath, but soon that cintoxicating rhythm returns and there you go again.

Een leuk arrangement van Kurt Brogli deze pittige versie van ‘Speedy Gonzales’, een groot succes van en-kele decennia terug. Het nummertje werd vooral gebruikt op de dansvloer omdat je er lekker de ‘twist’ op kon dansen en het werd door diverse artiesten opgenomen, o.m. door de Franse komische crooner Hen-ri Salvador.

A fine arrangement by Kurt Brogli is this one of the once famous song ‘Speedy Gonzales’ which was a long time hit for many years. It was very popular on dance floors as one of the favourite twist tunes and has been interpreted by many famous artists, among those the French crooner Henri Salvador.

Ein schönes Arrangement von Kurt Brogli, nämlich diese schneidige Version ‚Speedy Gonzales‘, ein großer Erfolg vor einigen Jahrzehnten. Diese Nummer wurde vor allem als Tanzmusik genutzt, da man danach herr-lich den ‚Twist‘ tanzen konnte. Zudem wurde sie von den unterschiedlichsten Künstlern aufgenommen, z.b. von dem französischen witzigen Crooner Henri Salvador.

Het was onder het impuls van de Argentijnse componist Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) dat er in de veertiger jaren tango’s met een symfonisch karakter ontstonden. Zij maakten gebruik van grote orkesten die met de traditie van de ‘orquesta tipica’ braken. Adiós Nonino is daar een sprekend voorbeeld van.

It was the Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) who was at the origin of the so-called symphonic tango in the forties. Those tangos were performed by large orchestras and thus broke with the tradition of the small ‘orquesta tipica’ Adiós Nonino is a typical example.

Dem argentinischen Komponisten Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) ist es zu verdanken, dass in den vierziger Jahren des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts Tangos mit einem sinfonischen Charakter komponiert worden sind. Diese Tangos verwendeten große Orchester statt der kleinen Ensembles, ‚Orquesta Tipica‘ genannt. Adiós Nonino ist ein repräsentatives Beispiel dieser sinfonischen Tangos.

C’est sous l’impulsion du compositeur argentin Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) que le tango à caractère sym-phonique s’est développé dans les années quarante du siècle précédent. Ils faisaient appel à de grands orchestres et rompaient ainsi avec la tradition des ‘orchestres typiques’ (orquesta tipica). Adiós Nonino en est un bel exemple.

Here is a fine piece of rhythmical and appealing dance music by means of which Marcel Peeters evokes the well-known American gamble paradise with plenty of casinos, one-armed bandits (slot machines), bars, hotels and imitations of famous monuments. This is a real gem of well orchestrated light swing music which incites more than one to dance.

Ein sehr schönes rhytmisches Tanzmusikstück in dem Marcel Peeters die bekannte amerikanische Spielhölle mit ihren zahllosen Kasinos, Spielautomaten, Bars, Hotels und Nachbildungen von bekannten Monumenten musikalisch darstellt. Eine Perle von reich orchestrierter Swingmusik die zum Tanzen einlädt.

Voici un très beau morceau de musique de danse pleine de rythme qui permet à Marcel Peeters d’évoquer cette ville américaine, centre de jeux du hasard avec sa multitude de casinos, de machines à sous, de bars, d’hôtels et d’imitations de monuments célèbres. De koningin was mooi en ijdel en het verhaal dat vertelt hoe haar ijdelheid groot ongeluk veroorzaak-te wordt in verband gebracht met de constellatie Andromeda. Een sfeervol symphonisch gedicht. Een uit-daging voor elk orkest

Cassiopeia was the wife of Cepheus, the Ethiopian king of Joppa (now known as Jaffa, in Israel), and the mother of Andromeda. The queen was both beautiful and vain, and the story of how her vanity caused great distress is told in relation to the constellation Andromeda. A great Symphonic Poem.

Cassiopeia war die Gattin von Cepheus, dem Ethiopischen König von Joppa (dem gegenwärtigen Jaffa in Israel), und die Mutter von Andromeda. Die Königin war nicht nur sehr schön sondern auch sehr eitel und die Geschichte wie ihre Eitelkeit großes Ungluck verursachte verbindet man mit der Konstellation Andromeda. Ein schönes Symphonisch gedicht.

Cassiopée était l’épouse de Céphée, le roi éthiopien de Joppa (actuellement Jaffa en Israël), et la mère d’Andromède. La reine était très belle, mais très vaniteuse et l’histoire qui relate comment sa vanité causa de grands malheurs est liée à la constellation appelée Andromède. Un poem Symphonique fantastique.

De Spaanse orkestleider Xavier Cugat (Gerona, 1900 - Barcelona, 1990) bracht zijn jeugd door in Cuba alvorens carrière te maken in de V.S. waar hij in 1928 zijn dansorkest oprichtte. In 1933 werd hij leider van het orkest van het Astoria Hotel in New York. Zijn vertolkingen van Latijns-Amerikaanse dansmuziek maak-ten hem wereldberoemd. Marcel Peeters bewerkte meesterlijk zijn successen One Mint Julep, Zombie en Rum and Coca Cola. Een spetterende, zwoele en exotische cocktail!

The Spanish bandleader Xavier Cugat (Gerona, 1900 - Barcelona, 1990) spent his youth in Cuba before starting a successful career as bandleader in the USA. He created his first dance band in 1928 and five years later he was conductor of the Astoria Hotel Orchestra in New-York. He became world-famous with his interpretations of Latin-American dancemusic. Marcel Peeters wrote a fine arrangement of some of Cugat’s greatest hits One Mint Julep, Zombie und Rum and Coca Cola. A sparkling, sensual exotic musical cocktail!

Der spanische Bandleader Xavier Cugat (Gerona, 1900 - Barcelona, 1990) verbracht seine Jugend in Kuba bevor er in den Vereinigten Staaten Karriere machte als Dirigent und Arrangeur. 1928 gründete er sein eigenes Tanzor-chester und 1933 wurde er Dirigent des Orchesters imAstoria Hotel in New-York. Mit seinen Interpretationen von la-tein-amerikanischer Tanzmusik wurde er weltberühmt. Eric Swiggers (Deurne, 1968) studeerde aan het Brabantse Conservatorium te Tilburg, o.m. hafadirectie bij Jan Cober en Compositie bij Kees Schoonenbeek. Hij studeerde ook saxofoon bij Jean Pennings en Hans de Jong. Hij schreef reeds heel wat composities in uiteenlopende genres, waaronder diverse werken voor har-monie- en fanfareorkest. Keep it up is een feestelijk getint werkje, gecomponeerd voor de 15de verjaar-dag van de Stichting Jeugdmuziekdag Bommelerwaard.

Eric Swiggers (Deurne, 1968) studied wind band conducting with Jan Cober and composition with Kees Schoonenbeek at the Brabant Conservatory of Music in Tilburg. He also studied the saxophone with Jean Pennings and Hans de Jong. He has already written quite some compositions in various styles and genres, among those several works for symphonic and fanfare band. Ton van Grevenbroek wrote several arrangements of the very popu-lar hits by the Alan Parsons Project, for wind band combined with a pop group (2 guitars and bass guitar) and piano. Just like “Old and Wise” and several other songs, the Alan Parsons hit Silence and I be-came extremely popular all over the world. Of course, the vocal part could not fail. This arrangement will be a big success that will certainly appeal to young audiences.
