2016 ~ Keeping the Faith & Taking It Higher!
It has been a year of awesome advances at the Rock! But even more remarkably, it’s been a year in which we broadened and deepened our relationship with our community, and learned just how commit-ted to, and supportive of, RVCC our constituency truly is. Here are some highlights:
A wonderful Annual Fund Campaign, swelling our personal and business membership to over 600;
Record-breaking Treasure Chest sales under new manager Kat Walsh’s leadership;
Coffee House concerts, orchestra concerts, art exhibits and Winter Markets filling the auditorium and Lounge with the amazing talents and products of local musicians, artists, farmers and crafters;
Successful outdoor fundraising events including “Celebrate Rockfish,” “Hoop Dreams,” “Kickin’ It in the Rockfish,” “SK8 Nelson,” “No Plaid Required,” “Beach Blast ’16” and “Jazz & Blues Fest II”;
New blinds in eleven more windows, thanks to the Schaeneman Foundation;
A beautiful new 900 square-foot picnic shelter that housed all of our summer events, completing the first phase of the Blue Mountain Pavilion project;
Completion of the re-leveling and re-seeding of the baseball diamond outfield, thanks to the gener-ous donation of time & materials by Jeremy Parker of Creation Appreciation;
Two new party tents that played host to all of our summer parties this year, thanks to the Nelson County Community Fund and the Schaeneman Foundation;
12 beautifully restored sash windows in the front of the building;
61 brand-new thermopane windows around the rest of the main building, helping us to seal the building and reduce energy consumption as part of our “Green Initiative” project;
A restored and re-configured geothermal heating/cooling system that will provide primary temper-ature regulation for the Treasure Chest and Rockfish Lounge;
Another wonderful surprise from Rock Legend donor John Stewart, who gifted us with an unex-pected and unrestricted personal donation this summer;
Beautifully restored soffits and fascia boards around the entire main building, stabilizing the re-maining lead paint on the exterior of the Center; and
The welcoming of Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation to our family of tenants, keep-ing our rental spaces full for the second consecutive year.
We are The Rock… This is How We Roll!
Sincerely,
Chuck Kiehl, President
The mission of RVCC is to create a well-maintained, safe and caring place . . . that encourages “community to happen” through the arts, education and recreation. Two concepts are important here – place and community. Hence we are known as a community center, and caring for both the
community and the place is our core mission.
