This Weekend’s Scripture
First Reading: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 The high priest chastised Peter and the other apostles for continuing to preach when they had been ordered to stop. Peter replied he would ra-ther obey God than men, considering God's power even over death. They are again warned to stop speak-ing of Jesus, and then freed.
Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of re-ceiving power, glory and praise. Then every creature on earth called out praise to God and the Lamb, and the elders fell down and worshipped.
Gospel: John 21:1-19 Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish. Jesus then asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?" When Pe-ter said he did, Jesus asked him to tend and feed his sheep.
A Stewardship Thought . . .
“Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him,
‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’” (John 21:17)
All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus and others. Discern how God is calling you to use your time in prayer, your talent in charitable works and your treasure to assist those who are in need. Remember that giving is an act of worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church.

News from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Our Neighbors in Need Find Help Here.
We’d like to extend a big Thank You to the employees of First Energy for their very generous cash donation for which First Energy corp. will provide a matching donation. Thank You! We promise to put it to good use.
The SSVdP at OLV has a very active food pantry. It used to be that 65-80 families a month was considered busy. Now it’s the norm. Through your generosity we help many low-income families with much needed gro-ceries. Could you please help us by donating non-perishable food items and toiletries? We gratefully ac-cept all non-perishable food items however presently we’re running very low on the following: Chef-Boyardee type canned pastas, sugar, all types of canned soups, pasta sauce. As usual we are always in need of canned or packaged fruit, canned tuna and meats, in-stant mac & cheese, toiletries such as bathroom tissue and toothpaste, shampoo. Donations can be left in the church lobby after any mass.
We are always looking for new ways to help those in need. Besides direct client assistance for rent, utilities, medicines, etc. and the food pantry, we do back-to-school supplies, Christmas gifts, Easter baskets, and a Coat & Blanket drive. If you have any ideas for new ways we can accomplish our mission of bringing God’s love to those who are poor and suffering we’d love to hear from you. Contact us through our voice mailbox at the parish office. 732 257-0077.
When it’s time to get rid of an old vehicle please con-sider the SVDP National Vehicle Donation Program. It’s a tax deduction for you and if desired your donation can be directed to specifically assist our SVdP confer-ence here at OLV. For more information call 800 322-8284 or visit: http://svdpusa.careasy.org
We are here to help. We are here to serve. No work of charity is foreign to our society. If you or someone you know is truly in need please contact us through the parish office. (732) 257-0077
