From the Desk of Father Jonathan
This Sunday we will celebrate the 111th Annual Dinner-Dance of our parish, and we will honor three wonderful Catholics and friends of Mount Carmel.
Mike Piazza: Most people know Mike as a Hall of Fame baseball player who led the Mets for many years and is one of the all-time best catchers / hitters in the major leagues. But that's not why we are honoring him as a parish. I'm blessed to call Mike a friend and we honor him for being a dedicated Catholic who loves God above all things, loves his Church, and is doing his best to live his life according to God's plan. He and his wife and children are dedicating their time, energy, and resources to make our culture more Christian and more human. Mike also loves his Italian heritage. In fact, he recently purchased and is managing a soccer team in Reggio Emilia, Italy, not far from his family's roots, there in southern Italy. We are honored that Mike would accept this invitation and travel from Florida to be with us this weekend. Richard and Barbara Naclerio: Most people know Richard and Barbara as business leaders and philanthropists. I'm blessed to call them friends and to have witnessed how they put their faith in action every day. I am especially grateful to them for the way they guided and supported us in the renovation of the church. Richard has worked in construction most of his life and he helped me hold our contractors' feet to the fire in order to keep the quality high and the cost low. They de-serve this honor because they too are an example to all of us of people who make God's priorities their own.
God bless, Father Jonathan

BALANCE Today’s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God. That connection and balance, however, isn’t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed. Today Jesus reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith.

EQUILIBRIO
© lachiesa.it
