CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS SECTION 1

Chenille Bear Christmas Ornament

For a "baby's first Christmas" ornament, add the baby's name and year on an alphabet bead garland for the bear to hold!

Materials:About 1/2 ounce Lion Brand Chenille Sensations

brown or tan for teddy bear or white for polar bear(limp worsted weight yarn can be substituted)

Crochet hook size E (or D if you crochet loosely)Yarn needleSmall amount of fiberfill2 small black beads1’ of 1/4” ribbonBlack embroidery floss12” fishing line

Finished size: About 4” highTo work sc dec (over 2 sts): Insert hook in first indicated stitch and pull up a loop, insert hook in next indicated st and pull up a loop; yo and pull through all 3 remaining loops on hook.

angle for mouth. Tie ribbon around neck with a bow in the front. Sew a loop of fishing line to the top of the head to hang.

Crocheter’s Christmas Ornament Materials:

One ounce worsted weight Christmas yarn Crochet hook size D1 1/2” styrofoam ball Tacky glueStraight pinsRibbon

Wind yarn around the styrofoam ball until completely cov-ered. (It should resemble a ball of yarn.) Secure with a straight pin. Measure an additional 3 yards of yarn from the spot where the yarn is pinned to the ball. Cut yarn.

Attach end of the cut yarn to the hook; ch 9.Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch remaining across; ch 1, turn. (8 sc)Rows 2-4: Sc in each sc across; ch 1, turn. (8 sc)Row 5: Sc in each sc across. Remove hook from last st. Insert hook through yarn- covered styrofoam ball, then pick up the last stitch on row 5. glue in place. Randomly insert a few straight pins through the yarn-covered styrofoam ball to secure yarn to ball. Glue hook in place on the ball. Allow glue to dry. Tie ribbon bow around hook. Thread yarn needle with fishing line. Insert needle through the styrofoam ball and pull through fishing line. Tie fishing line to form a hanging loop. Glue bow in place.

Finishing: Place snowflake and fabric stiffener in a small plastic zip lock bag. Work stiffener into the snowflake through the closed bag, then let soak at least one hour. Place a sheet of waxed paper on a flat sheet of styrofoam. Remove snowflake

from bag and wring out any excess stiffener. Shape snowflake on waxed paper and tack in place with pins or toothpicks. Al-low to dry completely. Remove pins. Add a loop of fishing line to the snowflake to hang.

Stuffed Gingerbread ManThis gingerbread man can be used as an ornament or fridgie, or add a few to a wreath! I'm sewing several to-gether at the hands to make a garland for my kitchen win-dow. You can also make a larger one for a stuffed toy by us-ing a larger hook.

Materials: Limp worsted weight or sport weight yarnAbout 1 ounce brown; small amount of white Crochet hook size DFiber fillButtons, beads, etc. for trim

Finished size: About 5 1/2" tallTo work sc dec (over 2 sts): Insert hook into the first indi-cated st and pull up a loop, insert hook into the next indicated st and pull up a loop; yo and pull through all 3 remaining loops on hook.

Pattern note: Cut a 12” length of brown yarn before begin-ning each piece. This will be used for the second arm.

Make 2 of these pieces.

Stuffed-Star Photo Ornament

Variation...to make stuffed star ornament without photo, just make 2 back pieces; join and stuff.

Materials:Small amount of worsted weight yarn (acrylic or cotton)Crochet hook size D2” lucite ringWallet-size photoGlueFiber fill

Gauge: Rounds 1-2 of the back piece = about 2”Finished size: About 4 1/2” from point to point

PreparationCenter 2” ring over the photo so that it looks the way you want it when framed. Trace around the outside of the 2” ring onto the centered photo, then cut the photo along the traced circle. Laminate photo, it desired.

BackCh 5; join with a sl st to the first ch to form a ring.

Finishing Glue the photo to the back of the crochet-covered ring of the front piece, making sure the top of the photo aligns with one of the points of the star, so the photo will be straight when hung. Allow glue to dry. With wrong sides together, match the points of the stars of the front and back pieces. Join yarn with a sl st through any matching stitch of both pieces; (ch 1, sl st in the next st) three-quarters of the way around, working (ch 1, sl st) twice in the center trc of the each point of the star. Stuff with fiberfill, pushing the fiberfill into the corners of the star. Continue crocheting closed. Fasten off. Join yarn with a sl st in the ch-1 sp at the top point of the star; ch 10, sl st in the same ch-1 sp for hanging loop. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Tie a length of the gold ribbon or pearls to the eye hook to hang.
