Passing of a great horse
Sadly winter seems to bring heart ache for horse owners with older horses. The King Family
recently lost their wonderful horse Tex. Stacy Kasner her daughter Candie Garcia lost their
beloved mare, Nutmeg. She lost the battle with the illness she had been fighting for months.
Our hearts go out to you during this time. Although their time with us short, horses stay in our
hearts and forever change our lives.
From the Chuck Wagon
This will be a ground breaking year for
Stirrin Dust as we have new riders, a new
approach to drill and a new season. Its not
too late if you are interested Contact one
of the Coaches or Captain and come find
a practice location and time that is near
you and come see what drill is about! Feel
free to text or call. Leave a message!
Coaches: Alicia Burke 253-797-1982,
Lana Affonso 253-534-6093
Captains: Bonnie Vaders 253-670-0195
Shalesa Kovash 253-561-4881
The season is starting! Finally, though we are
way behind the other teams in the WLRCA the
riders and horses … and coaches really
enjoyed their time off for the fall. Trail rides and
holiday parties some schooling shows and
more gave us all a chance to rest up and get
ready for our season. The drills have been
fleshed out, I am sure many rewrites are to
come and the lesson plans for the winter
practices have been set up. Thanks to Dr
Vetter in Buckley and High Point in Puyallup for
letting use your arenas for winter practices.

Were you being a couch potato December
31st, while waiting to ring in the new year? 20
MRC members and friends joined me on the
New Year’s Eve ride at Mt. Baldy. The sun was
shining and spirits were high (including the
horse’s) as we rode from the parking lot to
explore the trails across the street.
If you haven’t ridden across the street, it’s a
nice combination of road riding and trails that
wind through woods and clear cut. I was
proud of everyone as we gave our horses a
great workout going up and down some fun
hills. At one point Brian. Eric and Scott even
had to get off their horses and clear trees from
the trail that had blown down over the last
week. Thanks guys!!
The two hour ride was just perfect as both kids
and adults were still smiling and chattering.
When we returned to the parking lot, Keith had
the chili warm and corn bread ready to eat.
Thanks Keith!
Our next MRC-hosted trail ride will be Saturday,
January 28th at the Danville Georgetown trail
system in Maple Valley (no permit required).
Rain or shine, we will be riding out of the
parking area at noon. If you have never been
on these trails, I think you will be pleasantly
surprised. There is even a 4-H trail course we
can try out!! To join me on this ride, follow
Highway 169 (Enumclaw Black Diamond
Highway) to Four Corners in Maple Valley. Turn
right (East) on Highway 516 (Kent Kangley). Turn
left (North) on to SE Summit-Landsburg Road.
Approximately a mile up the road you will park
in a wide open area beside the road….the
parking is great.

I look forward to see you in Maple Valley! Make
your New Year’s resolution to get out and ride
your horse more!
What a Beautiful Day for a Ride!!! Submitted by Laura Bradley
One of the things I notice about humans is that they tend
to look longer and harder at the bad stuff than at the
good stuff. Do you know that you get MORE of whatever
you put your intention on? Really! It's true! If you pay more
attention to the fact that most of your transitions are
PROMPT, and that your horse almost always takes the
CORRECT lead, you'll find you get more good stuff like
that! So look for what's good in your ride today. Make a mental
list immediately after you get off your horse of at least 3
GOOD things about your ride! Do that every day this
week. Just the GOOD stuff. Even if it's just doing a relaxed
walk or that your horse stands perfectly still when you
mount or you didn’t fall off. You may find your cup is
actually half full, instead of half empty. Your horse is waiting for you at the barn! Get going!
