Disco

• In the late 1960s, rock and roll became music that was more often listened to that danced to.

• The new dance beat that took the world through the end of the war in Vietnam was called disco.

• This was a mix of rhythm and blues, gospel, soul, and Latin Dance music.

• Short for discotheque, meaning record library, disco was short for the clubs where it was danced.

• Disco music was heavy on the beat, and featured brass and other instruments seldom heard in rock music.

• The greatest Disco hits were “I will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor and “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees.
