Chad Hedrick
Olympic Speed Skater
Chad Hedrick is the world’s most lauded speed skat-
er dominating the sport for last 20 years. He was
born on April 17, 1977 in Spring, Texas to loving and
supportive parents, Paul and Wanda Hedrick. Chad
was introduced to the world of skating as a tod-
dler at his parent’s family business, a popular roller
skating rink just outside of Houston. As his parents
watched Chad learn to walk on a pair of roller skates,
they knew he was destined for greatness as a skater.
At a very young age, he found what he loved to do.
Chad’s father coached the local roller-skating team,
and immediately Chad started winning. He won his
first national Championship when he was 8 years
old on 4 wheel roller skates. In the late 80’s, when
inline speed skating was introduced, Chad quick-
ly mastered fearless techniques for speed. In 1993,
he made the US Junior National team. In 1994, at
age 16, he became the youngest skater in history
to qualify for the United States World Team and he
won his first World Championship shortly thereafter.
One of the remarkable things about his early suc-
cess in inline racing was that he used a fundamen-
tally different style of skating from everybody else.
Hedrick developed a technique called “The Dou-
blePush” that allowed him to generate speed
much more efficiently than others by pushing in
the same direction with both feet simultaneously.
The technique relies heavily on the body’s own weight
transfer in order to put as much power into the ground
as possible. This technique, using extreme edges, is
much different than the traditional speedskating tech-
niques used up until Chad’s use of the “DoublePush.”
This technique not only helped him reach higher
speeds, but it helped him execute speeds that topped
the charts and notably awarded him his legendary
status as what today, some would call, visionary.
The DoublePush gave Chad a competitive advan-
tage as an inline speed-skater and soon thereafter,
he began winning every competition there was to
was to win. Today this is the gold standard for inline
skating and you can even buy books that teach this
skating style.
Racing for the top teams of Rollerblade and Hyper,
Chad won World Championship after World Cham-
pionship. In 2000, he won his 50th championship in
Oostende, Belgium. In 2002, while watching his close
friend Derek Parra win the 1500m gold medal in the
2002 Olympic games, he knew he’d found the next
new challenge. He decided to undertake the transition
and make his way onto the ice and become a compet-
itor in ice speed skating. After training on ice for less
than a year, Hedrick won the 2004 World Allround
Speedskating Championships, breaking a world re-
cord in the process.
He went on to win the gold medal in the 5,000 meters
during the 2004 World Single Distance Champion-
ships. In 2004, he also became the second American
to be awarded the prestigious Oscar Mathisen Me-
morial Trophy, joining the ranks of our 1980 Olympic
hero, Eric Heiden. In 2005, he successfully defended
his own 5,000m world title. He has gone on to set six
world records, and became the first man in history to
ever skate 10,000 meters in under 13 minutes. Chad’s
accomplishments in the years leading up to the 2006
Olympics put him in the ranks of the greatest Amer-
ican speed skaters of all time. Chad has lived the ul-
timate athletic dream and his new dream today is to
inspire and motivate others to do the same.
He is the World’s Ambassador for Speed Skating and
continues his legacy through a global movement, “the
DoublePush.” Chad Hedrick currently resides in The
Woodlands, Texas with his beautiful wife, Lynsey, and
their three children. In 2006, Chad and Lynsey Hedrick
started the “The Chad Hedrick Foundation” to pursue
bold, philanthropic fundraising moves for all children
that dream of athletic excellence. Since 2006, he has
joined the Special Olympic volunteer team as a coach
and mentor, raising over $400,000 for the charity. He
continues to support the Special Olympics as well as
other charities through the annual “Go For the Gold”
Charity Golf Tournament.

Empower your ministry with Chad Hedrick. From podium to Passion,
Chad willingly speaks of his love for Christ and his mission to inspire oth-
ers with his testimonial. After reaching the pinnacle of his career in 2010
and receiving the most amount of medals by any speedskater in history,
Chad still felt an emptiness inside that could only be satisfied through
what he is now calling his ministry. Even after being honored with five
Olympic medals and over 50 world champion medals, Chad felt that the
calling of Christ was stronger in his heart than any Olympic feat and is
now telling others of his extreme fulfillment through his faith and not just
his athletic skill.
A leading competitor in the skating world, Chad’s voice speaks volumes
to children and aspiring skaters as he is the role model for God’s power
and making the impossible possible. Chad speaks avidly about the op-
portunities and tools he has been given to succeed and wishes to instill
that sense of compassion, motivation, and inspiration into the children of
our future. Chad seeks to be a Christian role model and appear for both
speaking engagements and autograph appearances.
Chad feels that his vocation and heart for his faith have lead him to tell
the story of God’s power behind the scenes.
“ Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but [he who does it in the name of the Lord] do[es] it for a crown that will last forever.” —1 Corinthians 9:25

to Speedskating, and his Olympic journey to be the best. His
