T-CBN Series for Hard Materials
1
Drastic reduction in machining costsAllows higher cutting conditions in machining of hardened steels and cast irons.T-CBN inserts with a wiper edge allows additional reduction in machining time.
Increased machining accuracyConsistent long tool life allows drastic reduction in the amount of dimensionalcompensation.
This is a tool material, in which fine crystals of cubic boron nitride(the hardest material next to diamond) is tightly compacted andsintered on the cemented carbide base using special binder underhigh temperature and high pressure. The hardness is more than twice that of cemented carbide, with thehardness at high temperature exceeding that of cemented carbide.CBN does not have a tendency to react with ferrous materials (whichis not different from the case with diamond) and thus suitable for highspeed cutting of cast iron, finishing of the hardened steel, cast iron, ferrous sintered metals (valve seat, etc.). Also, this material issuited for finishing of super heat resistant alloys. The use of CBN sintered material enables the finish surface accuracy (expected only through grinding up to now) simply bycutting.

The wiper edge can double the feed rate and also does not deteriorate the surface roughness.(Note: Feed rate: f < .012 SFM)

Wiper edge
Wiper edge geometry A finishing edge (wiper edge) is formed at the point of intersection between corner radius and straight cutting edge.
Effect of wiper edge
Superior surface roughness g By integrating roughing and finishing into one process, productivity can be increased.
Doubles the productivity g Reduced machining time
Compared with conventional inserts only with corner radius, surface roughness can be improved with the wiper edge.

T-CBN inserts with special honing specification are made to order. Refer to the following description.Honing specifications
T-CBN inserts with wiper edge
General rule For continuous cutting , a small honing angle is favorable to minimize wear in general. For interrupted cutting , a large honing angle is favorable to minimize fracturing in general.
