Student of the Week
Paul Anderson
Paul has been voted Student of the Week by
staff and students this week for having a great
week of learning.
Last week, Paul was putting in 100% effort with
all his work and not giving up if he couldn’t do
something the first time. He happily listened to
feedback and took on advice from all staff
members.
During IEP lessons, Mrs Nairne was impressed
with his efforts. He worked really hard on his
reading with her last week and is trying hard to
achieve his goals.

In golf on Wednesday, Paul gave everything a
go even if he didn’t get the ball in the hole. He
understood it was about having fun and
enjoyed challenging himself.
Some of the reasons Paul’s peers voted for
him include;
‘Paul for being respectful in the library’ and
‘Paul for following instructions’
Congratulations and keep it up, Paul!
Captain’s Report
By Isabelle Bibby
We had an exciting week of learning last week. On Wednesday we had our last day of golf, and found out who won the golf hole competition. Sharon was very impressed with our amazing ideas and final projects. The decision to choose the winners was hard with so many holes to look at and compare. She conducted a raffle draw and had three prizes. First prize went to Paul, second prize to myself and third prize to Summer. We all loved having Sharon for sport this term. Thursday we were lucky enough to have Michelle, Harold and the van arrive at our school and tell us all about staying healthy. Everyone enjoyed seeing our friend Harold again. Friday we celebrated Anti-Bullying Day by wearing Orange clothes to show our support. We watched an informing video clip about a girl who took her life because of bullying. This was upsetting that others treat people to cause bullying and depression to happen. The quote “Speak, even if your voice shakes”, touched us all.
A Visit from our friend
HAROLD!!
Cassilis students enjoyed a visit from Healthy
Harold and the Life Education Van on Thursday.
Here are some of the student’s thoughts on
Harold’s visit;
Today we visited Healthy Harold he taught me
healthy things like, wash your hands before eating
and how to pack a healthy lunchbox.- Gordie
Anderson
Yesterday the 15th March was my last time I get to
see Healthy Harold the giraffe, I will remember him
as the funny giraffe he was.
Harold taught me about alcohol, which was the
most effective drink and which one was the least
effective, what the effects were, how many grams
each drink is and where the alcohol goes.
We used cards, knowledge, memory and light-up
body-parts to learn these things. One of the things
we used was a light-up human named Pam. I had a
stick that would light up a body part after I pointed
to it.
I watched a video about what alcohol does to the
liver and how fast the liver can process the alcohol.

After that Harold wanted to play a game of
basketball. I got the ball into the hoop more times
than Harold. Later we did a sword fight and after
Harold was beaten with the banana he said “There
is something wrong with the carrot” After I beat him
with the carrot he said “There is something wrong
with this banana, as well”.
As I said before this is my last time learning with
Harold and I will always remember the fun things
he did.- Isabelle Bibby
Today I saw a giraffe called Healthy Harold. He
brushed his teeth.- Paul Anderson
Today healthy Harold told me that exercise is
good.- Skylah Anderson
Yesterday Healthy Harold visited Cassilis School.
He came to teach us about the body and how it
works and the things inside the body. I enjoyed
Healthy Harold’s visit and I had a good time. -Ben
Bibby
Yesterday on the 15th of March Healthy Harold
came to visit Cassilis. Healthy Harold taught us
about alcohol and where it goes in the body. First
we had to fill in a puzzle, then we took turns to
point to the body part and read it out loud. We then
had to choose between myths and facts. After that
we watched a video called is it safe for Uncle
Martin to drive. We then had to make the most
dangerous situation from cards. The ages were 14
year old girl, 17 year old boy, 35 year old woman
and 50 year old man. We also had to sort cards out
from lowest to highest alcohol and then we did how
many grams in each.
We had a staring contest and it was a tie between
Isabelle and Harold. After that, Healthy Harold said
that he wanted a rematch of basketball from last
year. It was a tie again. Then we had a sword fight.
Harold had the carrot and I had the banana and
Harold said “there is something wrong with the
carrot”. He had the banana and Isabelle had the
carrot and then he said “there’s something wrong
with banana”.
I was very lucky that I got a handball from Healthy
Harold. Over all I enjoyed the day and I can’t wait
until next year to see Harold again.- Sophie

Our last day of golf fun with
Sharon!
On Wednesday students at Cassilis Public School
had their last golf lesson with Sharon. Students
were asked to design their own golf courses as well
as their own golf hole we could use. All students
did such a fantastic job that neither Sharon or
myself could pick a winner! The students were very
sad that it was their last golf day with Sharon as
they have enjoyed it so much. The students wrote
some lovely cards to thank Sharon for travelling to
Cassilis to teach them golf. I was very impressed
watching our students golf skills develop over the
weeks that we had Sharon, and I know many
students are now keen golf players! - Mrs Austin

Bullying.
NO WAY!
On Friday 16 March students at Cassilis were
encouraged to wear something orange to support the
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. As
a school we watched a very moving video in the morning
before starting school to understand why we were all
wearing orange. Students participated in activities during
the day to help them understand the effects bullying can
have and how important it is to be able to stand up
against it. -Mrs Austin
