SUBJECT: Revised Internet Safety Curriculum RECOMMENDATION: First Reading for Approval of Revised Internet Safety Curriculum RATIONALE: To prepare students for the ever-changing world of technology, we
accept the premise that computer/technology skills are essential components of every student’s education. In order to maximize opportunities for students to acquire necessary skills for academic success, the teaching of these skills should be the shared responsibility of teachers of all disciplines. One of the most vital skills necessary to achieve academic, personal and social success is the practice of Internet Safety.
Caroline County accepts the challenge to expand and refine the current technology curriculum to encompass high school technology based activities focused on Internet Safety. It is critical that all students achieve success while maintaining physical and emotional safety in the virtual world of technology. The purpose of this expanded curriculum is to meet the above described need. The instructional technology vision is to safely prepare all students, K-12 for an ever-changing technological world. The Internet Safety Committee agreed upon the following programs: K-2: NetSmartz Clicky or Professor Garfield 3-10: FBI-SOS Safe Online Surfing 11-12: Internet Safety Modules (as designed by the committee)

SUBJECT: Dual Enrollment and College Ready RECOMMENDATION: Informational RATIONALE: Access to a challenging high school curriculum has a greater
impact on whether a student will earn a 4-year college degree than his or her high school test scores, class rank, or grades. College-level, dual credit, and other accelerated courses support college-going strategies and models that will help students succeed. Caroline County Public Schools, in partnership with Germanna Community College is able to currently offer 54 credits worth of classes. Of those, only the CAD 151 Engineering Drawing Fundamentals has a CTE Dual Enrollment status. We are in the development phase for future CTE Dual Enrollment courses. Additionally, we are exploring an early college program. In order for the program to fulfill requirements, we will need to expand our offerings. Potential courses include Art, Yoga, Political Science Communications, and additional math and science.
Caroline High School current offerings:
Dual Enrollment Advanced Placement French I, II English Literature Engineering Drawing Fundamentals
US Government and Politics
Principles of Psychology Calculus Principals of Sociology Studio Art Teachers for Tomorrow Pre-Calculus Calculus I, II US History I, II English Composition I, II Biology I, II
We identify the need at the middle school level to prepare college-ready students. In our general studies curriculum, the specialists are working with teachers to advance learners through differentiation, independent studies, and an online tutoring program. Guidance counselors will also be employed to meet and share vital information with students and parents regarding dual enrollment opportunities, career plans, and post secondary educational options.
