Preface
The SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager User
Guide is intended to provide your enterprise with a way to benefit
from the capacity data that is discovered and stored in SANscreen by
increasing the collaboration between groups and departments within
your organization.
Senior management, business unit managers and application
managers all have has different requirements and needs for capacityreport information. They each want interactive reports that can beeasily accessed through a dashboard GUI, as well as a variety ofways to save and publish the reports they either modify or create..
SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager offers themanagement and distribution of capacity reports individually orthrough the dashboards by integrating with SANscreen DataWarehouse and manipulating the data it has extracted from theSANscreen database.

Chapter 1 Overview
1.1 Overview
SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager provides you
with the ability to view summary reports and to generate ad hoc
customized reports based on the summary data that appear in
reporting snapshots, lists and graphs available on the SANscreen
Reporting Connection dashboards, including:
CM Capacity Forecast
CM _ Cost Accounting
CM Tiers
CM Port Forecast
Violations
You can create new reports at any time with refreshed data andpublish them to other users. No special system build or system reboot
is necessary. The ad hoc reporting capabilities let you filter,
summarize and edit existing capacity reports.
NOTE: Access to the SANscreen Reporting Connection is defined by roles,
which are explained in that user guide.
The data for these reports are built and scheduled from the
SANscreen Data Warehouse. See the SANscreen Data Warehouse
User Guide and the dynamic DB Schema on the Data Warehouseportal for more information.

1.1.1 Who Can Use These Reports?
Anyone interested in improving the operation of their organization can
benefit from the generation of capacity reports using the EnterpriseReporting feature. These include:
Business Unit Managers
VP of Infrastructure
Application Managers
Storage Managers
1.1.1.1 Application Manager
This user manages only hosts and would like to get information on thehosts in the network to find out:
1. For managed hosts what is the usable capacity each hostcan access?
2. Are there any outstanding violations that are relevant tomanaged applications?
3. For each of the managed hosts, can he see informationabout its HBA, switch connectivity and speed? This isinformation that improves communication with the SANteam.
4. What volumes are accessed by managed hosts, andwhat is their capacity? What is their redundancy?
1.1.1.2 Storage Manager
This user manages the storage environment or a subset of theenvironment and would like to get information on the following:
1. Status of available capacity and ports in managed datacenters. This is information that can assist and drivepurchase decisions.
2. Prioritization of storage service violations according toapplication priority.

3. Inventory summary list, including: number of fabrics, numberof hosts, number of arrays, number of tapes, number ofswitch devices, number of available switch ports, number ofconnected switch ports and switch port utilization.
4. A summary of the current storage utilization showing:
a. Total array capacity
b. Total configured volume capacity
c. Total volume allocated capacity
d. Total masked
e. Total replication
f. Total uncarved raw capacity
g. Storage utilization
5. Top 10 arrays and their allocation utilization.
6. Service status, including:
a. Number of paths
b. Total Accessed Capacity
c. Number of violations and the percentage of the entirecapacity that is under violation.
1.1.2 Enterprise Reporting Dashboards and Reports Data
Data in these reports is based upon the SANscreen licenses that you
have purchased. If you do not have Capacity Manager installed, then
you will not receive any data in the capacity reports.
1.2 Installing Enterprise Reporting Feature
The instructions for installing Enterprise Reporting features appear in
the SANscreen Installation and Administration User Guide.
Please refer to that book for all installation and licensing procedures.

The following environment is necessary to provide optimum use of
SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager:

SANscreen Reporting 2.0
This user guide does not describe how to use the SANscreen
Reporting Connection portal, which is based on Cognos technology.
A link to Cognos documentation is available on that portaljust click
the question mark to the right of the Launch menu:
The Cognos documentation can also be accessed in your Start menu
after you have installed SANscreen Reporting.
1.4 In This User Guide
Subsequent chapters describe how SANscreen Enterprise Reporting
for Capacity Manager manages the data it has collected from the
SANscreen Data Warehouse in the pre-canned reports.
For each dashboard there is:
A chapter describing the dashboard and the drill-down
options that exist within the report snapshots, lists and graphs
that it contains.
A chapter describing the individual reports that are generated
from and attached to that dashboard.

The CM - Capacity Forecast dashboard lets you:
Generate capacity trend reports per tier and datacenter.
Review the time to run out of reservation space and request
space for each tier.
Verify that there are no major changes that may affect
resource availability.
Get a capacity planning report per datacenter.
Get a capacity planning report per tier.
Know which top BUs are using a certain tier.

Click on the CM - Capacity Forecast tab at the top of the SANscreen
Reporting Connection screen to get the following view shown on thenext page:

2.2 Capacity Consumption Forecast
This dashboard portlet presents in months the estimated time you will
run out of storage for a specific tier and data center combination.
The dashboard shows at a glance where there are potentially
problematic areas. When there are fewer than four months remaining,
the intersection of the tier and data center is shaded in red, signaling
a need for attention.
NOTE: Clicking on any part of the charttier, data center, or value
automatically refreshes the rest of the dashboard portlets to match
the outcome signaled by that attribute or intersection.
2.2.1 Using Colors
Colors are indicators for the thresholds and can be finely granulated.
For positive far intersection, use 99. For negative slope, use 99.1.
For example, you can set the thresholds as follows (in months):

Note that 99.1 is white with grayed- out text.
2.3 Storage Capacity Trend
Observe the dashboard when you make a change to any element in
the Capacity Consumption Forecast portlet described in section 2.2.
Changes immediately affect the data shown in the Storage Capacity
Trend portlet.
This line graph shows the capacity planning report for the entire
organization, including all tiers and all data centers This graph gives
you visibility into past trends and can serve as a basis for a futureforecast of capacity thresholds:

2.4 Storage Utilization
This dashboard report helps you understand how resource allocation
is being used. It shows two dials per data center:
Storage Utilization by Data Center = the percent of allocated
capacity vs. available capacity.
Global Storage Utilization = the total percent for the entire
environment (an aggregate all data centers).
The dial pointer indicates a safe level of capacity allocation in green.
Resource problems exist when the dial points to yellow or red (see
also section 2.2.1):

This bar graph shows the top 7 Business Units that use capacity in
each data center. With the graph, you can generate and review thedetailed usage report on the data centers and tiers that will run out inthe near future:
Click on a Business Unit in a data center on the graph. The Storage
Capacity Usage Trends by Timeframe [Usable Capacity] report
opens:

Usage data in the graph and in the table show the usage growth rate
for the selected Business Unit and tier.
The table gives report values:
Field Description
Date The timeline selected to measure the data.Capacity in TB Raw capacity in terabytes.
Total Capacity in TB Total raw capacity in terabytes for all data centersand all tiers.
Threshold A percent level of the total allocated capacity that isused as a safety level. If the used capacity is aboutto cross that threshold, immediate action is needed.
Forecast Amount of time in which current capacity will runout.

The Detailed Reports section of the CM - Capacity Forecast
dashboard provides links to a subset of reports that are relevant to
storage capacity. Some of these reports have been shown in Chapter
2 for the report snapshots and graphs on the dashboard.
All capacity forecast reports are described in this chapter.

Click on in the upper left of the portlet to
see the rest of the available host reports. The icons on the right can
be used to perform the following actions for the report entry. NOTE: To
schedule reports, set properties or restore default values, see Chapter 10:

specifies a name and location.
lets you schedule this entry to run at a recurring date and
time.
opens the Report Studio (not part of the SANscreen
Reporting Connection).
NOTE: For all trend charts, if there is no data for the corresponding date (forexample if you select End of Quarter and have no DWH data for that
particular date) the chart will be missing that data point.
3.1 Creating a Report
Individual reports allow you to select additional parameters to get
filtered results. The following process can be used to create all
reports in this chapter.
1. Click on the link for the desired report in the Detailed Reports
section of the dashboard. The setup view for that report
opens.

8.4 Ports by Data Center, Vendor, Port Speed
This report displays the number of active ports, grouped by data
center, vendor, and port speed. It allows you to see the number of
ports of each vendor and speed as well as where they are located:
Click on any segment in the bar graph. The Switch Port Capacity by
Data Center [FC Ports] report opens:
The table in the report gives information on the ports selected for the
speed of 1G, showing the data center (Tokyo), the vendor (Brocade
Communications, Inc.), the individual totals for switch, host, and

storage ports in the data center, as well as the total number of ports
(53).
The table below gives report values:
Field Description
Date The month the timeline is being measured.
Total Active Ports Total number of active ports.
All Available Ports Total number of all ports.
Threshold A percent level of the total allocated capacity that isused as a safety level. If the used capacity is aboutto cross that threshold, immediate action is needed.
Forecast Amount of time in which current capacity will runout.

Chapter 9 CM - Port ForecastDetailed Reports
The Detailed Reports section of the CM - Port Forecast dashboard
provides links to all summary reports for Port Capacity. Some of these
have also been available by drilling through the report snapshots and
graphs on the dashboard. (See Chapter 8.)
All port capacity reports are described in this chapter.

be used to perform the following actions for the report entry. NOTE: To
schedule reports, set properties or restore default values, see Chapter 10.

NOTE: For all trend charts, if there is no data for the corresponding date (forexample if you select End of Quarter and have no DWH data for that
particular date) the chart will be missing that data point.
9.1 Creating a Report
Individual reports allow you to select additional parameters to get
filtered results. The following process can be used to create all
reports in this chapter.
1. Click on the link for the desired report in the Detailed Reports
section of the dashboard. The setup view for that report
opens.
2. Each setup view contains configurable elements for each
type of report. Select the criteria you want and click Finish at
the bottom of the page.
NOTE: If you make no selections in the setup view, this is equivalent
to selecting ALL parameters for the report.
3. The next view opens to show the expanded results in a
graph.
4. Every graph has a table of parameters that correspond to the
criteria you selected. Definitions for those parameters are
supplied with each report.

9.2 Switch Port Capacity by Data Center
This report provides a chart that shows what port speeds are
available for each data center.
This view sets up the report, and includes a threshold percentage:
After you have made your selections, click on Finish to open the
results report:
The table gives information showing all port speeds, data centers,
and vendors. The individual number of Host, Switch, Storage, and
Tape ports are shown according to speed. The total number of ports
is provided (264):

9.3 Switch Port Capacity Planning
This report provides a forecast of future port consumption by data
center, switch vendor and port speed to determine when additional
ports are needed.
The view shown on the next page sets up the report, and includes a
threshold percentage. The prompt for the threshold % allows you to
control where the threshold line is drawn as a percentage of the total.
The default is 80%:
After you have made your selections, click on Finish to open the
results outcome:

Chapter 10 Using Detailed Report Icons
The Actions menu appears in the Detailed Reports section of the
dashboard. It can be used to perform the following actions for each of
the reports that are listed:
is used to specify properties.
lets you select how you want to run and receive your report.
creates a Report View.
lets you schedule this entry to run at a recurring date and
time.
opens the Report Studio (not part of the SANscreen
Reporting Connection).
10.1 Setting Properties
The default tab that appears first in the Set Properties page is
the General tab. NOTE: The Permissions tab shown in the screenshot will
only appear if the user is an administrator or the author of the report:

10.1.1 General Tab
To customize the General tab data for individual reports:
1. Click on the Help link in the upper right-hand corner. All fieldsare defined, with expanded explanations on how to use them.These include ownership of the report, name and description,additions of new icons, and location and date history.
2. After making changes and closing out of the Help window,click on the Source Properties link at the bottom of the pageto open an expanded view of properties:
With this view, you can now also add contacts, set run historyand report output, and link to a package. Note that anadditional tab appears: Report.
3. After filling in the added fields, click on Link to a packageThis takes you into the Public Folders directory, where all packagesare listed:
You can select a package and link it to the parameters youhave just set in the properties view.
4. Click OK to enter all General tab information into the system.

10.1.2 Report Tab
This tab appears if you expand the original Set Properties view:
From this view you can see the most recent report or run the report,
override default values, save the values you want, and select to run
the report as owner only. See also the Help link on the upper right-
hand corner of the page.
1. After entering selections, click on Advanced Options:
These options let you determine the outcome for HTMLreports.
2. Check the appropriate boxes.
3. Click OK to apply all changes recently made in the Reporttab.

10.1.3 Permissions Tab
Access to the SANscreen Reporting Connection is determined
through the roles assigned to users in the User Management sectionof the SANscreen Data Warehouse. You can modify the access
criteria for those roles using this tab.
NOTE: The Permissions tab shown in the screenshot will only appear if the
user is an administrator or the author of the report.
NOTE: See Chapter 12, Reporting User Management in the SANscreen
Istallation and Administration User Guide for a description of how roles are
created and assigned.
1. Select a role by checking a box in the left pane. Individualand Group roles are designated. NOTE: If you click the box onthe header of the Name column, all checkboxes are automaticallyfilled in.
2. Grant or deny access privileges by checking the boxes in theright pane. (See the Help link for detailed information.)
3. Click on the green arrow to transfer those privileges to therole or remove them from the role. The icons for thoseprivileges appear beside each role in the list.
If the right of access is denied, the icons appear with a linethrough them.
4. Click OK to enter your changes into the system, or click onthe Add link at the bottom of the left pane to open the viewshown on the next page:

Using this screen you can add the names and roles to theentries.
5. Add the new information into the Available Entries box. Clickthe green arrow. That information is transferred into the
Selected Entries box, enabling the new additions.6. Click OK to confirm the entries.
You have successfully customized access privileges for a specific
report.
10.2 Running a Report
The Run with Options page lets you select how you want to
run and receive your report, including format and delivery:

1. Fill in the fields you want to change.
2. Click on Advanced Options:

You can view the report now, let it run in the background, orschedule it for a specific time.
3. Click Run. The SANscreen Reporting setup view for thatreport will appear.
4. Set the parameters for the report and click on Finish.
5. Your new report is created and available for viewing.
10.3 Creating a Report View
A Report View uses the same report specification as the source
report, but has different properties such as prompt values, schedules,delivery methods, run options, and output formats. NOTE: Creating a
report view does not change the original report.
The New Report View Wizard page specifies a name and description
for the report, as well as screen tips. It lets you navigate to a location
for storing the reportincluding My Foldersif you do not want it
showing up on the default dashboard. NOTE: Storing any report in My
Folders makes it visible to yourself only:

Click Finish to complete the wizard. See the Help link for moreinformation.
10.4 Schedule
With the Schedule view , you can set up the report to run at a
recurring date and time and set its runtime priority. You can run it
using the default values or specify the options. You can disable the
schedule without losing any of its details.
NOTE: It is important to set the email address to receive the reports in User
Preferences and to configure the SMTP server/port for sending the emails.
Enter the parameters for the report. See also the Help link for
additional information.

10.5 The MoreMenu
The last icon on the Detailed Reports is , which takes you to
the list of all available actions you can render with the report:
If you decide to remove a report, you can do so instantly from this
view by selecting . The report can be restored again at
any time if you have saved it in the New Report Wizard shown in
10.3.
