PREFACEAccreditationisthepublicrecognitionaccordedtoaprofessionalprogramthatmeetsestablishedprofessionalqualificationsandeducationalstandardsthroughinitialandperiodicevaluation.Accreditationconcernsitselfwithbothqualityassuranceandprogramenhancement.Itappliestoprogramsandistobedistinguishedfromcertificationorlicensure,whichappliestoindividuals.TheMissionofTheCanadianCouncilforAccreditationofPharmacyPrograms(CCAPP)istograntaccreditationawardstoPharmacyandPharmacyTechnicianprogramsthatmeettheStandardssetbyCCAPPandtopromotecontinuedimprovementofthoseeducationalprogramsforpharmacypractitionersandpharmacytechnicians.TheseAccreditationStandardsaddressCanadianPharmacyTechnicianProgramsthatintendtodeveloppharmacytechnicianswhowillbeabletomeettherequirementstoregisterwithaCanadianpharmacytechnicianregulatoryauthority.TheStandardsreflecttheeducationalphilosophyandintentoftheEducationalOutcomesforPharmacyTechnicianProgramsinCanadaoftheCanadianPharmacyTechnicianEducatorsAssociation(CPTEA)andtheNationalPharmacyRegulatoryAuthoritiesofCanada(NAPRA)documententitledProfessionalCompetenciesforPharmacyTechniciansatEntrytoPracticeinCanada.TheCCAPPStandardsarenotappropriateforProgramsthatintendtodeveloppharmacyassistantsorclerks,pharmacytechniciansforcareersinmanagementorhealthinformatics,orPharmacyTechnicianProgramsthatoperateoutsideofCanada.TheseAccreditationStandardsrecognizethatpharmacytechnicianeducationofhighqualitydependsongeneralknowledge,basicandprofessionalsciences,andpracticumexperience.ThecurriculumofaPharmacyTechnicianProgramisexpectedtoembracethecurrentscopeofpracticeaswellasemergingroles.CCAPPbelievesinthepreparationofcompetentgraduateswhocanreliablydemonstratetheabilitytoapplytheirknowledge,skillsandbehaviourstocarryoutpharmacytechnicianrolesthatareexpectedbysociety.Pharmacytechnicians,incollaborationwithotherpharmacyteammembers,ensurethatpharmacyservicesaresafe,effectiveandefficient.Pharmacytechniciansmustbeabletoworkwithpeopleofdifferentcultureswithdiversevalues,beliefs,andcustoms.Pharmacytechniciansmustbeabletobecometrustedandrespectedmembersofthepharmacyteam,developskillsinpublicrelations,andprovidesupporttostudentsandcolleagueswithinandoutsidethefieldofpharmacy.Pharmacytechniciansareexpectedtopracticewithintegrity,honesty,andempathy.Pharmacytechniciansareexpectedtoworkinintra-andinter-professionalteamsandbeadaptableenoughtoworkinavarietyofsettings.ThepublicisentitledtodemandthatgraduatesofaPharmacyTechnicianProgramhavemasteredtheentry-to-practicecompetenciesfortheprofession.ThisdoesnotpreventaProgramfromestablishingadditionaleducationaloutcomes.Sinceregistrationandlicensureofapharmacytechnicianbyaprovincialregulatoryauthorityreliesontheeducationaloutcomesofgraduates,itisimportantforthePharmacyTechnicianProgramandtheprovincialregulatoryauthoritytohaveacloseworkingrelationship.InthisStandard:
