This lesson was prepared for a special education classroom made up of 7 students3 Third Graders4 Fourth Graders
All students have IEP’s-Some classifications in the room-
Speech/ language Emotional/ Behavior Autistic Mentally Retarted
To teach students about temperature and how it is measured so they can apply it in
the real world
This lesson will take place during one 35 minute Science period.5 minute mini lesson on thermometer
recognition15 direct instruction with 4th grade group15 minute direct instruction with 3rd grade
group
The students will be able to read a thermometer in Fahrenheit and Celsius with 85% accuracy.
The students will be able to write that a thermometer is the tool that measures temperature with 95% accuracy.
The students will be able to write the
temperature for the freezing point with 95% accuracy.
Why is it important to have standard units of measurement?
Thermometers are the tool used to measure temperature.
Temperature is how hot or cold something is.
Degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius are the two standard units of measurement for temperature.
