Imagine our reaction if a large sphere came from outer space and landed in Central Park. The world watches as it opens, and a figure dressed in white emerges and says, I
am a messenger from God. Most people would have a hard time believing such a claim. Just like Thomas, until we put our hand in the wound on Jesus side, we cant believe. Just like the villagers of Nazareth in todays Gospel, we find Jesus claim to be outrageous. Hes only Joseph the Carpenters son. How can he possibly be the Son of God? Our faith calls us to be among those of whom Jesus says: Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. -- Dc. Dick Folger
Prayers should be the key in the morning,
and the lock at night. Dear Parishioners, When Constantine named his mother St. Helen as Augusta Imperatrix he also gave her unlimited access to the imperial treasury whereupon she built and refurbished three churches during her travels to holy places in Palestine. The key to the bank went missing somewhere in the shuffle to the 21st century and we need your connections to potential organizations and busi-nesses that may be willing to support our new church building campaign. Corporate sponsorship is an integral component of our fundraising initia-tives. The Corporate Sponsorship Fundraising Committee is organizing a dinner September 30 and is asking for parishioners help to submit the names of those businesses that might be invited to attend. Your help is vital to the success of the din-ner and the building of our beautiful new St. Helen Church. Walking along beside me, Jesus, as I begin the months of summer.
As I work, play, enjoy family time and friendships, may I hear your voice within me,
guiding me toward all that is right and good. Give me faith in your presence,

Childrens Liturgy During the summer months, Childrens Liturgy will not take place at the 11 am Mass. It will resume in September. A special thank you to all the volun-teers who help with the children, for your time and commitment throughout the year. Enjoy your sum-mer! New ideas or Interested volunteers are welcom for Children's Liturgy. Also, donations of crayons, pen-cils perhaps even children's bible stories would be appreciated as well.

Canadian Tire Bills Keep up the housecleaning and send in your Canadian Tire money. It will be used for purchasing raffle/door prizes for future
fundraising events for the new church. Thank you to Kate Thompson and her team of volunteers who organized a youth dance at St. Mark school and raised $543 for our new church! Penny by penny, were raising the roof!
Holiday Time - Throughout the summer months the Sunday Mass schedule continues. When you are away on vacation please remember that the needs of the Church continue. Thank you for your support.

St. Vincent de Paul Conference St. Helen Church
WHO ARE WE? The Society of St. Vincent de Paul founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam in Paris, is dedicated to the service of those in need through-out the world. St. Helen's Council presently has 6 active members that volunteer their time. WHAT DO WE DO? We help our needy neigh-bours that live within the boundaries of St. Hel-en. All calls are screened and a home visit is ar-ranged with 2 members attending. HOW ARE WE SUPPORTED? The poor box in the vestibule of the church is our main means of support. HOW CAN YOU DONATE? A cheque made out to St. Helen St. Vincent de Paul can be dropped in the poor box or the Sunday collection. There are also St. Vincent de Paul envelopes available for cash donations. We have just received a charity number which will enable us to issue tax re-ceipts in January. *Interested in joining us? Call Lorraine at 905-563-7043 All you need is the desire to help those in need, empathy for people, the ability to listen and an understanding of the Vincentian outlook. Discre-tion and confidentiality are priority.

Rain began to fall on the small crowd gathered at the gravesite. The forlorn widow-er watched as his wifes cas-ket was lowered into the grave. The minister raced through the final prayers to
beat the storm. As he finished, a flash of lightning struck, and the widower sighed with relief and said, Well, shes arrived. After sending the new disciples off on their first mission of evangelization, Jesus may well have wondered how they were doing. Perhaps some dis-tant lightning may have assured him that the disci-ples were doing just fine! -- Dc. Dick Folger

After a hard week of work, who doesnt look forward to coming home on Friday night? Its finally your time to relax, enjoy dinner, take a bath, slip into your pajamas and curl up with a book. Our plans and hopes sometimes get swept aside when life sends an
unexpected problem. Guests are not coming after all. Dinner got burned in the oven. Theres no hot water because the 10-year-old water heater blew up and flooded everything. Such was the case in todays Gospel story. The returning disciples were ready for some well-deserved rest. Jesus proposed that they all go to a deserted place. The Father had other plans. He was sending 5,000 followers to wait in a deserted cove. They were hungry and wanted to be fed. American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson might have been thinking about todays Gospel reading when

Back in 1918, Harry Hou-dini took the stage of New Yorks Hippodrome Theater and astonished his audi-ence with his Vanishing Elephant illusion. He led an elephant into a huge
cabinet and shut and closed the doors. When he later reopened the cabinet, it was empty. Nearly 100 years later, Magician Criss Angel did the trick in reverse. He took his audience into an empty parking lot and had them form a large circle by locking their hands. Inside the circle Criss raised curtains to form a foursided pen. When the curtains were lowered, an elephant was miraculously stand-ing in the midst of the astonished audience. Its hard not to believe our eyes, but we know deep down that these are just very clever tricks. Todays gospel tells us the story of the miracle of the feeding of the 5000. It was no trick. Some may
have thought Jesus was a magician, but they came to know that what was happening was really the true power of Almighty God. It was happening be-fore their very own eyes, and it was all undeniably true! -- Dc. Dick Folger

The Decalogue: The Ten Commandments with Fr. Jay Comerford, O. Carm.
July 12-15 This retreat uses Krzysztof Kieslowski's award-winning films (a series of ten shorts created for Polish Television) that elucidate each of the Ten Commandments. We will explore and compare two sets of commandments in the Books of Exodus and Leviticus, view the films, and conclude with a prayer service examining one's conscience, with mercy and absolution.

July 23-26 During these days together we will study and pray the Psalms. We will be provided with some back-ground information on the history of the Psalms and on Hebrew poetry in general. But we will also expe-rience the Psalms, praying them with music and imagery.
