MEET THE TEACHERSThe information sessions across Stages 1, 2 and 3 will take place at the school this week, Wednesday 20th February. All Classroom Teachers and Assistant Principals listed on the schedule will be present at each information session relevant to them. Parents and Carers will have the opportunity to ask questions. Staff will discuss future directions for their class/stage. We look forward to seeing as many parents attend as possible.

STUDENT EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAIL REPORTStudents in Years 1 through to Year 6 will be bringing home this report in the coming days. (Years 1 and 2 were given the report on Monday). The purpose of the report is to ensure that the school has all of the current and up-to-date information for your child. This includes home address, phone numbers and medication details. It would be greatly appreciated if you could check the sheet, make any necessary changes, sign and return to the front office. Many thanks to those parents that took the time to do this last night, and have returned the report.

LOCAL WALKING NOTEWe still have a number of these to be handed in. Signed consent forms for your child to walk in the local area are required for them to attend Swim School at West Wallsend Pool as well as the Annual Athletics Carnival at Gregory Park.

HEALTH CARE PLANSIf your child is diagnosed with Asthma, the school requires a Ventolin puffer and spacer along with a current Asthma Action Plan (AAP) from the Doctor. If admin staff have contacted you with regarding to replacing an expired puffer, please bring in to the front office. The Department of Education requires a studen’ts AAP be reviewed annually.

If your child requires an EpiPen for anaphylaxis, the school must be notified. An up-to-date plan an EpiPen are to be provided by parents.

2019 ZONE SWIMMING CARNIVALGood luck to all of our students representing Westy at the Zone Swimming Carnival on Thursday.

ATTENDANCEAs a school, we are legally obligated to monitor student attendance and maintain an attendance register. It is important for you to tell the school if your child is absent and to provide a reason. This can be done a number of ways:* Send a written note, fax or email to the school* Telephone the school* Reply to the sms sent out when your child is marked absent during roll call in the morningPlease also be aware that all absences must come with an explanation. Without one, your child’s attendance record with have an “Unjustified-Unexplained” flag against their records.

BREAKFAST CLUB HELPERS NEEDEDThe students love having the weekly Brekkie Club back at school. We do require more volunteers though in order to keep it going. Please enquire at the school if you can spare 30-45 minutes on a Wednesday morming.

Uniform ShopThe Uniform Shop will continue to operate every Monday between 9am and 9.30am. Please do not attempt to purchase uniforms on Thursday and Friday mornings, as these are the busiest times for our Canteen Co-Ordinator. Toni does not have the time to serve parents with uniforms as well as take lunch orders during these times. Many thanks for your co-operation. ANAPHYLAXIS and ALLERGIES – Thank you for your support in helping our students with allergies. Due to the life threatening Anaphylactic allergic reaction to nut and peanut products, we would like to encourage families not to send these products to school with their children. They include peanut butter, Nutella, sesame seeds, loose nuts, muesli, nut and chocolate bars.

Canteen Helpers are neededSo that our Canteen can continue to run from Monday to Friday each week, we require the assistance of parents and grandparents to help our Canteen Co-Ordinator. If you can spare three hours once a month or once a fortnight, please contact the school. It would be most unfortunate if we were forced to close the Canteen on certain days, however this is a possibility if we do not have the support of our school community.

Hot Dog DayThe P & C will run a Hot Dog Day on Wednesday 13th March. Order forms will be sent home within the next week.

Canteen Price ListAll students have taken home a copy of the new list for 2019. Supplier costs have gone up, so the price of some items have increased this year. It has been a number of years since the P & C have increased the prices of Canteen items.

Annual General MeetingThe AGM is scheduled for Monday 4th of March at 9.30am. All are welcome to attend.

Easter Hat ParadeThis year the Hat Parade will be held on the last day of Term 1 - Friday 12th of April. Our out-of-uniform/easter raffle donation day is set down for Friday 5th of April.
