- Yes because the nickname is insulting when you don’t know that person.

- A combination of the St George/St Patrick/St Andrew crosses. It’s an identification of the four nations and the flag of the UK.
Explain why a lot of people consider England to be the same as Britain?
• England is the most dominant ( and largest of the Nations)
Is John Bull a stereotype?
• Yes because he is typical of 18th century Englishmen.
Will Ryan Giggs (Wales) and Wayne Rooney (England) play for the same
Football team at a European Championship? What if they were
active at the Olympics?
• EC= Separate• Olympics= Same

• When was the Stonehenge build?
• The Stonehenge was build between 3050 and 2300 BC
• Who has build it?
• Druids
• What was it’s function?
• The druids used it for ceremonies marking the passing of the seasons and it appears to function as a kind of astronomical clock
• What was the story “the burning of the cakes” about?
• King Alfred wandered around his country in disguise because of the Viking invasion. On
one occasion he stopped at a woman’s house. The woman asked him to watch some cakes that were cooking. Alfred got lost in thought
and forgot about the cakes. When the woman returned the cakes were burned. The woman shouted angrily at Alfred and sent him away.
She never found out that he was the king.
• Why is 14 October 1066 one of the most famous dates in English history?
• An invaded army from Normandy defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings. This was
the last time that England was successfully invaded.
• Who was Robin Hood and what was he known for?
• Robin Hood is a legendary folk hero. The taxes were very high when he lived in England.
Robin Hood and his band of 'merry men' stole from the rich and gave it to the poor being
hunted by the local sheriff (the royal representative). He was never captured.
• The successful Norman invasion of England in 1066 brought Britain into the mainstream of
western European Culture. What was the country that Britain had most links with?
• Scandinavia
• Where in the British Isles did these links with Scandinavia survive?
• The western isles (only until the thirteenth century) and the northern Islands (until the
fifteenth century) of Scotland remained under the control of Scandinavian kings.
