Cramerton Experiences Rise in Vehicle Break-Ins
Over the past couple of months eastern Gaston County has experienced a sharp increase in
the occurrence of vehicle break-ins. Our community has not been immune to this type of
criminal activity. All of these reported crimes have been crimes of opportunity for the
suspect(s), as the vehicles involved were left unlocked and many had exposed property of value.
CPD rarely investigates a vehicle break-in where damage was done to the vehicle to make entry. In fact, only three
occurrences of that type of crime has occurred within the last five years in Cramerton.
Thieves are inherently lazy and look for easy targets. An unlocked car provides such a target. When parking,
always take a moment to ensure your windows are rolled up and your car is locked before walking away, even if it
is in your own driveway. Take time to remove valuables from your vehicle, or at least place them out of sight.
Cell phones, GPS units, purses, wallets, and cash all make opening your unlocked car door worth the thief’s time.
Leaving your car unlocked at home provides the thief greater access to critical information. The thief can enter
your vehicle and obtain identifying personal data about you and your family. Checkbooks, credit cards, vehicle
registrations and personal papers all provide instant availability for the suspect to expand his criminal resume to
include identity theft. Have you ever left your car unlocked in your driveway and your garage door opener
exposed? This provides the thief with not only the contents of your car, but also the contents of your garage and
perhaps even your home, if you’re one of those who doesn’t lock the door from the garage into your house.
Help CPD help you to keep your property safe. Spend that extra few moments to lock-up your property and harden
the target in order to repel the lazy thieves. Report all suspicious activity when you see it occurring and work
together with your neighbors by pointing out those easy targets to each other. Working together we can send a
message to the criminal element that they’re the one group that we don’t want visiting our community.
Call 911 to report criminal or suspicious activity.
DISCARDED HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
AND TREE LIMB COLLECTION
The Public Works Department crew collects discarded household items
and yard waste on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. You should
place these items at curbside for pickup by 7:00 a.m. on Monday. Please
do not place these items in the street, on vacant lots, or on right of
ways. Household discards and yard waste need to be left at curbside in
separate piles.
