Black Youth Ice Hockey Initiative: A program of Hockey Nova Scotia in partnership with the Black Ice Hockey and Sport Hall of Fame Society and Sport Nova Scotia (Support 4 Sport) . The Program: A maximum of 30 players annually from HRM will be accepted into the program on a first come, first served basis. The actual program will consist of an 18 week on ice schedule, of 1- 50 minute ice session each week. The on ice session will be coordinated by fully certified HNS instructors along with community coaches who are provided training. Participants may only take part in the program for one year and then must move into regular minor hockey in their area. There is no cost for participants.

Objectives of the
Black Youth Ice Hockey Initiative
- To provide boys and girls of African Canadian background, who
would not normally consider hockey as an option or have the
chance, the opportunity to try ice hockey.
- Allow participants to learn the basic skills in a controlled
comfortable environment and experience a season of hockey with
their peers of the same background and skill level.
- To encourage black youth who currently do not participate in

Get active, participate with your friends and learn to play Canada’s game. Hockey Nova
Scotia needs you; we need players, coaches, and volunteer organizers to assist us in
growing the game of Hockey. Recruit your friends and contact Hockey Nova Scotia to
get involved. Hockey is a game for everyone and we want the game of hockey in Nova
Scotia to truly reflect the makeup of our population, to find out more give us a call or
check us out on the web.
Each player must have a complete set of hockey equipment. Hockey Nova Scotia will work with all participants to supply as much equipment as possible.
