JAMMU, Oct 18: Chargingthe district administrationUdhampur with partisan posturingand openly promoting the politicalinterests of BJP at the behest oftheir political masters, NPP chair-man and former minister HarshDev Singh today questioned theimposition of Sec 144 CrPc inentire tehsils of Basantgarh andLatti where Panthers Party meet-ings were scheduled to be held onOctober 15, 16 and 17.

Addressing a press conferencehere today, he said that hundredsof Policemen had been deployedin the aforesaid two tehsils tothwart the political functionswhich had been organized by sev-eral Panchayats including Mang,Basantgarh, Loudra, BalotaUpper, Pachound, Rasli Gaderan,Chhattrari and Keya on the afore-said dates by the public to felici-tate him for his contributions andhis persistent struggle for thecause of the people.

Accusing the AssistantCommissioner (R), Udhampur ofplaying in the hands of somefailed, corrupt disgruntled politi-cians, Harsh Dev said that it wasstrange that a District officer andacting Additional DistrictMagistrate should become a partyto scuttle the democratic rights ofopposition and issue such pro-hibitory orders without any justifi-

cation only to please his politicalbosses. He regretted that it was thefourth such occasion when Sec144 CrPc had been imposed inRamnagar constituency in the lastone year to prevent the JKNPPfrom holding public meetings onthe directives of BJP leaders.

He said that earlier on Dec28, 2016 prohibitory orders wereissued under Sec 144 CrPc in vil-lage Bharnara of tehsil Majaltawhere Panthers Party hadannounced a public rally.Likewise, prohibitory orders wereissued for holding meetings in vil-lage Sunater and Marta in August2017 where huge re-enforcementsof police contingents weredeployed and officers instructedto thwart the rallies of PanthersParty.

He said that it was unique inthe history of the State that felici-tation functions organized by thelocal people of remote villageswere interrupted and Sec 144imposed in the private premises ofpeople where the arrangementsfor public meetings had beenmade only to deprive and deny theopposite of their fundamentalrights. He lamented that heavycontingents of police threatenedthe localities on Oct 15 inBasantgarh including several Ex-Sarpanches, Panches and promi-nent notables to shelve the pro-grammes.

Javed Rana concerned overinjuries to civilians in firing

MENDHAR, Oct 18:Expressing concern over injuriesto civilians in cross LoC shellingin Poonch, senior NC leader andMLA Mendhar Javed Rana todaycondemned Government for non-construction of bunkers for thecivilian population in the villagealong Line of Control in Mendhartehsil of Poonch district.

In a statement, Rana expressedgrief over injuries to eight civilianin cross LoC shelling and damageto five vehicles in Mendhar,Balakote and Manjakote sectorsof twin district Poonch-Rajouri.

He said that the Governmenthas failed to save lives and proper-ties of the innocent people whoare living along the LoC andalways become soft target ofshelling from other side.

"If the Government wouldhave provided bunkers for civilianin their respective villages in ade-quate numbers, the injuries couldhave been avoided. However, lackof interest towards the border vil-lages along the LoC has put a seri-ous question mark on the policiesof the present Government beingrun by PDP-BJP," he said.

He said that there is a need to

develop properly the remote areasof LoC in Mendhar using theBorder Area DevelopmentProgramme (BADP) funds butsame is not being done.

He further alleged that insteadof providing drinking water, elec-tricity, road connectivity, healthservices, education, and bunkersin the LoC villages, theGovernment is allegedly indulgedto divert BADP funds especiallyits additionality.

He said that concerned MLAsare not being taken into accountbefore the sanctioning of addition-lities and the works are also givento the blue eyed.

"There is no concept of overalldevelopment of LoC villages.However, there is insist on todevelop border areas of Jammu,Kathua and Samba ignoring theresidents of LoC who are actual-ly suffering most living in mudhouses and in poor conditionwithout proper road connectivity,"he reminded the Government.

He said that the PDP has hand-ed over Jammu division to BJPand RSS and they are makingpolicies for their own constituen-cies ignoring the residents of LoCunder a well hatched conspiracy.

Tak for special task force to deal withdevelopment deficit in Chenab Valley

KISHTWAR, Oct 18: Seniorleader of People's Democratic Party(PDP) and Member of LegislativeCouncil (MLC) Firdous Tak hasdemanded immediate constitutionof special task force to deal withdevelopment deficit of far-off andremote areas of Chenab Valley.

The PDP leader also favouredthe outcome-based approach forthe development of remote andfar-off places of Chenab Valleyand said it is high on his agenda tosee every nook and corner gettingits due share in terms of develop-ment and progress.

He said this while interactingwith the people and party workersduring his visits to remote vil-lages of Nowpachi, Teller,Machna, Chainjer, Paithgam,Yurdu, Astangam and Qaderna inKishtwar district.

"There is an immediate needto constitute a special task forcefor Chenab Valley to work outtangible measures to bring thisneglected region out of remote-ness, backwardness and toimprove the living standards of

the people," Tak said, adding "It ismy dream to see this regionmarching on the path of develop-ment, progress and prosperity".

He said it is the high time forthe State Government to form aspecial task force to deliver jus-tice to the people of ChenabValley who have been discrimi-nated against and neglected inevery sector of life by the succes-sive National Conference-ledGovernments in the past.

"The special task force must beentrusted the job of looking into allproblems confronting all the threedistricts of Chenab Valley. Thefocus should be laid on improvingthe road connectivity, ensuringquality education for children,basic health care facilities for thepeople and creating new jobopportunities for unemployed edu-cated youth," the PDP MLC said.

Appreciating the PDP leader-ship led by Chief MinisterMehbooba Mufti, for its specialconcerns towards Chenab Valleyregion, Tak hoped that the pro-posed special task force will beconstituted at the earliest.

JAMMU, Oct 18: The three-day long fast by JJSF activists as amark of respect in memory of thestudent martyrs of 1966, culmi-nated today while NationalSecular Forum, NationalConference Students Union andother organizations also visitedthe Shahidi Sthal outside GGMScience College and paid theirtributes to the students martyrs .

The three-day fast by JJSFactivists, namely Sunil Chouhan,Sulaksh Kotwal, RiteshChoudhary and Pankaj Kerni con-cluded amidst by performing of

Havan for peace to the departedsouls. Later juice was offered tothe fasting students by K SSambyal, Jt Director, AgricultureDeptt and Zorawar Singh Jamwal,Chairman Team Jammu.

Presented by Amateur TheatreGroup and directed by SandeepVerma as part of its young direc-tor's series, the evocative playwhile highlighting purely existen-tialist issues that included certainexplosive truths about religious,psychological, communal andideological dimensions of theIndian society.

The plot revolved aroundthree college mates whose chancemeeting at a secluded and aban-doned place littered with junk,results into humdrum conversa-tions that apparently centeredaround a three-legged chair, abroken watch, project the trio as

characters caught in hopeless sit-uations forced to do repetitive ormeaningless actions; dialogue fullof cliches, wordplay, and non-sense.

Led by talented debutantSakshi Bhat as Sumitra, SandeepVerma as Ravi and VivekSangotra as Aziz-the young actorswere successful in maintainingthe momentum through the fastpace of dialogue delivery andalmost flawless movements.While the male actors at timessounded a little flat and monoto-nous, it was Sakshi Bhat who litup the stage with a wide range ofemotions oscillating from care-free and casual to grave ones fullof ominous subtext.

He was addressing a gatheringduring a Diwali function organizedat Raghunathpura centre ofHealthy India Stronger India(HISI), a Non-GovernmentOrganization. He presided over thefunction as chief guest.

The chief guest in his addressexpressed his pleasure at the initia-tives of the NGO and called upon thegathering to come out in large num-bers to support the efforts of HISI.

Magistrate (SDM) Akhnoor SunainaMehta today noticed sale of crackerson highly exorbitant rates andissued directions for marking ofexact rates on the packets.

The SDM inspected largenumber of stalls of crackers in thetown and its periphery and noticedsale on exorbitant rates. Sheobserved huge variation in theoriginal price of the crackers andthe cost marked on the packets.

She warned the stall owners todesist from this practice immedi-ately otherwise action as warrant-ed under law would be takenagainst them. The SHO PoliceStation Akhnoor and Executive

Officer Municipal CommitteeAkhnoor were asked to ensurethat people are not cheated by theowners of these stalls.

The SDM also directed Fireand Emergency ServicesDepartment to take all necessaryprecautions in the areas where stallsof the crackers have been installedto ensure safety and security.

She also inspected variousshops and business establish-ments in the town. One sweetshop at Dasgal was found inunhygienic condition and FoodInspector was directed to takeappropriate action in this regard.

However, most of the sweetshops in Akhnoor were found ingood condition.

Old walls posing risk to peopleExcelsior CorrespondentJAMMU, Oct 18: The walls

of an old and partially brokenhouse are posing risk to the lives ofpeople, specially the children in thevicinity of Ploura in Jammu, whilepeople of locality and also thehouse owners have turned blindeye towards this serious issue.

Interestingly, this old structure,which is at the verge of collapse anytime, is hardly 50 meters awayfrom the house of a public repre-sentative on Ploura-BSF CampusRoad. Though Jammu MunicipalCorporation's Khilafwarzi staff,dealing with building constructionskeeps hawks' eye on any illegal and

unauthorized construction of shopsor any other structure withinMunicipal area, they too did nottake any serious note of the issue,which is posing a threat to the livesof the people of this locality.

This structures can collapseanytime and is lying in the samecondition for the last severalyears. A few locals claimed tohave asked the owners to disman-tle it themselves but they areadamant for its disposal. It ishoped that DistrictAdministration and JMC authori-ties would arise to the occasionand act swiftly to prevent anypossible casualty in near future.
