THE BIGGEST EDDY
DUCHIN SET EVER!
THE EDDY DUCHIN HITS COLLECTION
ACROBAT (UK) ACTRCD9099
It’s been 18 years since Columbia, now part of Sony-BMG
Music Entertainment, released anything “official” by Eddy
Duchin - and that was a single CD, “Dancing With Duchin,”
licensed by Collectables from the Sony Music Custom
Marketing Group, and, before that, a single CD in 1990 from
Columbia’s “Best Of Big Bands” series. Of course, there were
other Duchin CDs during that period, from Vocalion, Jasmine,
Take Two, and Diamond Cut Productions.
This new Acrobat release, with 71 selections on 3 CDs,
gathers Duchin discs from a 10-year period, 1932 to 1942.
The songs include Snuggled On Your Shoulder (Cuddled in
Your Arms), Night and Day, Ol’ Man Mose, Get Out of Town,
and Down Argentine Way.
It’s nice that Acrobat has released this big Duchin set and
so many other sweet bands on CD lately, but we hope they will
watch the sound quality more closely, because it is
disappointing in places. We also think that the print size of the
text in their CD booklets is usually very tiny (too tiny).
