For the Month of March 2012
April 9, 2012
1. PRODUCTION
On March 30, Corinne Ray taped the first in a new show
series she will be producing and hosting called “Faces
and Places”. We are thrilled to have Corinne return to
BevCam after being away for several years. Her show
will feature interesting people and events from our area.
New producer Barbara Alex taped her first show with
Jamie Belsito acting as host. The series will be called
“Live Jazz Sessions”, and will feature performances by
musicians and singers taped during the Sunday Jazz
Sessions held at the Chianti Jazz Lounge in Beverly.
Bob Gigliotti, who has produced the “Bobby G
Show”, taped a number of segments for a new show
called “ViewPoint 360”. It is a parody of supposed
“non biased” TV news and comment shows, and
features a comic and satiric look at these programs.

BevCam participated again with our good friend Paul
Van Nest of Cinema Salem this year to produce a special
program featuring winning entries in their student 5-
minute video competition. We taped interviews on
location on opening night March 1 with the students and
edited in their winning videos. BHS students Zach Stone
(1st place) and Matt Picariello (3
rd) were among the
winners.
The Council on Aging continued with its production of “Livin’
the Good Life”. On March 4, they hosted Dr. Melvin Miller,
formerly a professor of dentistry at Tufts Dental School, who
gave a fascinating presentation with slides of benefit work he did
providing dental services in South America and Asia.
It’s great to have Dr. Mavis Jaworski returning to
BevCam as an active producer, reviving her series, “Dr.
Jaworski’s New England Talk”. Her first guests
included Attorney Jack Altshuler, discussing legal
matters, and Philip Wysor, a local real estate agent.
Mavis is also taping a series of PSA’s on public health
related topics.

On March 5, BevCam joined with Beverly Bootstraps to tape
their annual Best Chef competition at the Danversport Yacht
Club. This popular event drew a large crowd as chefs from
several local restaurants prepared delicious offerings to
impress a panel of expert judges. The winner was 15 Walnut
from Hamilton. David Andelman of “Phantom Gourmet” did
a terrific job as host and emcee.
The annual Red Cross of Northeastern Massachusetts
“Heroes Breakfast” was held on March 15 at the Co-Co
Key Resort Hotel in Danvers. BevCam taped the event
for the 7th
year in a row. Dr. Richard Wylie of Endicott
College was named the Enduring Hero.
BevCam taped a Beverly High School fundraising event
March 15 in the field house. It featured a return of the
Harlem All Stars playing basketball against a select team of
BHS faculty/staff. A great time was had by all, especially
the youngsters.
Jenny Hudson continues to produce the very popular
“Live from Chianti” series featuring a live taping from
the Chianti Jazz Lounge. The program has been
instrumental in bringing deserved focus to the North
Shore jazz music scene.

Conversations” series with several people representing
the “Tour de Cure”, an event featuring a fundraising
bicycle tour to support diabetes research.
Gail Burke and Elliott Margolis and their “What’s
Happening” crew, who are perhaps currently our most
prolific producers, continue to tape programs at a rapid
pace. They feature interesting and oftentimes thought
provoking programing.
On March 10, BevCam taped the Beverly Rotary Club
sponsored “North Shore Star” event at the Danversport
Yacht Club. The exceptional singers displayed styles
ranging from opera to show tunes to country. Bill
Hanney of the North Shore Music Theater was one of
the judges. Fred Van Ness won first place for his superb
rendition of “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables.

2. OUTREACH
BevCam taped a video PSA at the request of the Coast Guard
Auxiliary on location at the US Coast Guard station in Gloucester,
featuring an interview with Commanding Officer Luis Munoz, in
preparation for their “Safe Boating Day” in May.
On March 22, the Beverly High School and Chamber of Commerce held a continental breakfast/coffee
connection at the high school to focus on mutually beneficial potential relationships between the school
and the business community. BevCam was on hand to tape the proceedings.
BevCam has been co-ordinating with the Beverly Chamber of Commerce to resume production of a
regular series. Here is an excerpt from Executive Director John Somes March newsletter:
“I am excited to announce that the Beverly Chamber of Commerce and BevCam will be promoting a
new show that focuses on Shop Local. Each month we will have a different host with a couple of guests
from the Business community to discuss different topics on shopping local.”
Chris Gilbert, who produced the series “This City Beverly” for
BevCam, was in the studio finishing post production on his
documentary “Beyond Empires. The work mostly involved some
voiceovers for scenes they shot on location in India.
Mike Bookman of Beverly’s local BEMA agency asked us to broadcast some FEMA sponsored PSA’s
on emergency preparedness which we are starting to air.

Mark Layman, a BHS girl’s gymnastics team parent, has become a new member. He taped several of the
gymnastics competitions, including their successful Mass State meet, which are airing on Channel 22.
Patricia Beckwith has become a new member and is interested in producing a series on financial topics.
We’ve had discussions with former producer Rick MacDonald of US Advisory Group about reviving his
series “Life by Design”.
While taping a “Reflections” show on site with Fred Hammond, we spoke with Peter Harmeling of
Harmeling Physical Therapy. We discussed a new series he would like to produce on health, nutrition
and body maintenance issues.
Barbara Alex, mentioned above, is a new member; other new members include Jamie Belsito, Thomas
Massa, Patricia Armstrong, and Greystone Services.
Mary Rodrick has reactivated her membership, as has Dr. Mavis Jaworski, mentioned above.
BevCam’s working relationship with Beverly High School has produced positive results all around,
especially in increasing the amount of student-produced shows on Channel 22. Media teacher Jo Lloyd
sums it up nicely:
“Channel 22 is packed with programming! …we are at a point where some programs need to actually
be bumped to facilitate incoming material.
Currently, the Studio Production class is producing 3 regularly running shows on Channel 22…Chit-
Chat with Sky and Kat- 8 episodes, Wallfries - 3 episodes, BHS Now - 3 episodes. Final edited episode
lengths are on average 20-30 minutes.
The Media Remix class has provided many video short features, commercials for and about the BHS
community, and video PSAs.
Other shows that have been produced by Media program: Writer's Corner (a combination project
between my Creative Writing class and Media students)-2 episodes with more on the way, BHS Vocal
Ensemble (a combination project between Chorus and Media students), Antigone (a combination project
between Lara Collins' English class and Media students), The Road Ahead (Media students production
of recent assembly).
Channel 22 has also been airing BHS sporting events taped by BevCam and parent volunteers which
seems to have worked quite well to cover events outside of the regular school day.
BevCam also produces other school related programming on Channel 22 such as Winter Concert, State
of the Schools, and Focus on Education with Dr.Galinski.
Additionally, I continue to post PSA slides as needed by the BHS community at large (bullying
prevention, events, etc.).
I am happy to say that Channel 22 which has had limited programming in the past is so filled with
programming that a future objective needs to actually look at scheduling!”
