Be YouBe You Graffiti Art Project Graffiti Art ProjectACTIVITY: Take inspiration from the book, Be You by Peter Reynolds, and create a Graffiti Art poster. *Check out the graffiti art included in your packet as additional inspiration!

MATERIALS: Poster board, white or colored paper, bulletin board paper or you could even use sidewalk chalk outside

• Graffiti Art usually refers to artwork on walls or other public places/surfaces, and is often created illegally, or without permission. Even without permission, graffiti art can be used to spread all kinds of messages. Obviously, we aren’t suggesting you create artwork on the walls without permission, so be sure to use posters or bulletin board paper to create your artwork then hang in your school.

• This poster can be hung somewhere in the school so it can inspire others to be the best version of themselves, just like the Unified Champion School movement inspires all of us to be our best.

ACTIVITY CARD NOTES:

Artistic Acronym ActivityArtistic Acronym ActivityUNIFIED WORD ART: Create an acronym that relates to the unified message. An ACRONYM uses the letters (usually initial letters) of a series of words to create an abbreviated version or another word. Here are some examples:

Together Be Everyone Right Achieves Back More

Several schools have created acronyms as the names of their Unified Clubs. One example comes from Sumter High School’s PEEPs Club:

Partners in Education for Exceptional Peers in Sports

Another example comes from Swansea High School’s SO-FAB Club:

Special Fans Olympics And Buddies

For this activity, you can create a traditional acronym OR you can choose any word that you think is important to a unified school and create a message around that word. Draw images or designs around the acronym to make it an artistic message! Here are a few examples or starting with a Unified word and creating the message from it:

Understand ChaNge BegIns WiTh You

Responsbility LEadership Sportsmanship InsPiration Equality Consideration Teamwork

Have fun with design and artwork around your WORD ART! Remember that this Word Art can allow you to further explore the Unified Champion School message and spread the word around your school!

Make a Unified Action PlanMake a Unified Action PlanBrainstorm and decide on at least 3 goals or ideas for Unified Champion School program. Consider identifying a plan or goal for each of the 3 components shown below. These goals can be for the remainder of this school year OR may extend into future years.

DIG for IDEAS: Refer to the Unified Champion Schools PLAYBOOK resource for guidance and ideas. Also, look at the Youth Activation Summit’s breakout sessions that include ideas and strategies for all of these components.

Use the sticky notes to collect ideas as your team brainstorms. Remember, no idea is a bad idea! Make sure everyone feels comfortable and is given time to contribute ideas.

Finally, you can use the UCS Action Plan graphic organizer poster to display your final plans!
