BARENTS SEA AEROMAGNETIC REMAPPING (BASAR-14)
The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) has carried out a new acquisition of aeromagnetic data in the South-eastern Barents Sea in order to determine the first or-der geological features. The survey comprises an area of approx. 46,000 km² in the Southeastern Barents Sea between the Fedynsky High and the Nordkapp Basin (see map on the next page). Profile and tie line spac-ings of the survey are 2 km and 5 km, respectively. The data acquisition was accomplished in October 2014. For the 3D seismic areas additional acquisition with denser profile distance of 1 km will be carried out in April/ May 2015.
The new BASAR-14 survey constitutes a part of an aeromagnetic remapping programme of the Norwe-gian continental shelf and adjacent ocean areas. Com-bined with previous NGU’s BASAR surveys (BAS-06, BASAR-08 and BASAR-09) the planned acquisition will provide a comprehensive and state-of-the-art aero-magnetic data-set of the Southeastern Barents Sea.
Aeromagnetic surveys are useful for detailed mapping of salt features, fracture systems, magmatic intrusions and to estimate the depth to magnetic basement. This information provides a structural overview of the area and is valuable for further survey planning like seismic, gravity, MT or CSEM data acquisition.
