Ponderings of Patience
With the Lenten Underway, Easter is Fast Approaching!
This Lenten Season:
The Armor of God Series with Lenten Suppers and Meditations
I hope everyone has enjoyed our exploration of the various pieces of what the Apostle Paul calls “the Armor of God” described in Ephesians 6, as we continue to make our way through this year’s Lenten Season. If you are not aware of the present schedule, we’d be delighted to welcome you to join us on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm for our light Len-ten Suppers followed by a brief meditation in the Fellowship Hall which is below the church’s sanctuary and easily accessible from the north parking lot of the church building. These suppers and brief meditation services will continue through Wednesday, March 21st. The supper and meditation are concluded before the 7:00 p.m. hour in order to afford time for attendance at the Wednesday Bible Study and Choir practice.
Holy Week Events and Services
Palm Sunday this year will be on Sunday, March 25th and we anticipate that our children in worship will be invited to help usher in Holy Week by bringing forth Palm branches at the beginning of each worship service. On Palm Sunday we will also sponsor our an-nual Easter Egg Hunt for children of the church and community, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Weather permitting, the hunt for eggs will be on the north side grounds of the church’s property, followed by storytelling, crafts and snacks in the fellowship hall once the egg hunt is completed. Presently, we are needing donations of candies for the plastic Easter Eggs if you would like to bring some packages of candy with you to church or bring them by the church office dur-ing the week. Please remember to not include chocolate (melts), candies with peanuts (allergies for some children) or unpackaged candies. On Thursday, March 22nd at 5:30 p.m., (continued on page 2)
The March Board Meeting will be on
Sunday, March 4th in the Upper Room
after the Noon potluck.
Page 2
(continued from page 1) you are welcomed to help stuff the plastic Easter Eggs with the candies for the hunt. We meet in the “Upper Room” Sunday School class in the upper level of the Education Wing. This year’s Maundy Thursday Worship Service will be on Thursday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. With a display of various types of bread, the service this year will celebrate the “Bread of Life” described first in the Old Testament and the Passover Event and then by our Lord Jesus throughout his ministry. This service will then conclude with everyone sharing in the cup and bread of the Lord’s Supper.
Easter Sunday Services
We will once again conduct a brief Sunrise Worship Service on the parking lot of the main en-trance of the sanctuary this year. With Sunrise anticipated at 7:03 a.m. this year, we’ll begin this service at 6:45 a.m. and then at about 7:15 a.m., we will follow the service up with a hearty breakfast sponsored by the Eacret Family and the youth of our congregation in the fellowship hall. The Flowering of the Cross has quickly become a tradition in the 8:30 and 11:00 Worship Ser-vices as the children in worship are invited at the beginning of each service to place pre-pared followers on a cross while the congregation sings Easter hymns. It is a wonderful way for our children to transform the cross from a symbol of death to a symbol of life. Donations in memory and honor of loved ones and friends will begin through a Sunday bulletin flyer on Sunday, March 4th through Palm Sunday, March 25th. If you would like to help prepare the cut flowers for the crosses, we anticipate endeavoring in this task on Saturday, March 31st
likely at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. With the warmer weather and the budding of the Spring season to be upon us in the weeks to come, it is also wonderful for us to have the privilege to celebrate our risen Lord Jesus Christ as the Easter Season unfolds before us! Blessings to each of you as we continue through the remainder of this Lenten Season and as we eagerly anticipate the early arrival of Easter this year! Pastor Dennis

Please Welcome Our New Organist, Lenora Remmert
Please welcome Lenora Remmert who begins her service as our organist at Barry Christian Church this month.
Lenora Remmert has served churches of the Northland since grad-uating from the Conservatory of Music at UMKC. She also enjoys performing as a professional pianist, music director and arranger in the Kansas City area. She has been blessed to perform at many area theaters, play with dance bands, and work as a staff accom-
panist for North Kansas City School District. She sometimes gets to work with her hus-band Ken who is a drummer, singer and actor in town.
They have a son, Nathan who lives with his wife, Ashley in Chicago. She also enjoys teaching piano at her home studio for all ages and levels of talent. Her hobbies in-clude sewing, wood crafting and when she is not playing the piano, she is busy with a custom design stained glass business.
She is also presently serving as the accompanist for the musical, Men of Faith, in which our Music Director, Andrew Schmidt is also performing.
Welcome Lenora!

On Thursday, February 15th, 21 men of Barry Christian Church met for dinner and fellowship. Our dis-
cussion topic centered on the violence that we saw in Florida and around the country and what we as
Christians can do to help alleviate the problem. Several ideas were proposed and finally we were able
to narrow that down to one idea that will have a positive impact on our life at Barry. We will continue
this topic in March at the next dinner.
Also, the Gathering has decided to have a Mother’s Day brunch on Saturday, May 5th to honor the
women of Barry Christian Church. Watch for updates and additional information for this event.
If you would like to be a part of this new adventure, you are invited to attend the next Gathering din-
ner to be held on March 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact Phil Myers at 816-679-3528 or

Easter Eggs, on Thursday, March 22nd beginning at 5:30
pm in the Upper Room. The Easter Egg Hunt is Palm
Sunday, March 25th at 3:00 pm.

Ladies Spring Tea Announcement All ladies and their (female) friends and relatives age 8 and above are invited to attend the Ladies Spring Tea on Satur-day, April 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the BCC Fellowship Hall. We will be serving teas, sandwiches, scones, cookies, fruit and other treats. We will also have a local speaker who most certainly will be entertaining and inspiring. Tickets will be on sale Sundays, March 25, April 1 and April 8 before and after services. Cost is $10 adult; $8 for a child age 8 –14 years. If you will be needing a babysitter for younger children, please let us know at the ticket table. Also, we will be looking for women to sign up to “host” a table – i.e., decorate the table in any fashion you want (use your imagination!) and provide your own teapot(s), teacups and plates, etc. If you would like to host and decorate a table but do not have place settings, the church can provide plates and teacups, etc. for you. We will also be asking for “volunteer teapots” to be used at the event. It is fun to see all the different teapots and to share their histories and sto-ries, so if you have a teapot(s) to share, please let us know at the ticket table. We have much more information to share, but most of all, we know this will be a fun event for everyone. mittee is excited to showcase and share the wonderful music and all that the city offers. Your gift

Out with the Old and in with the Newer . . .Piano for the Fellowship Hall
Lynn Bratney has a spinet piano she wishes to donate to the church for use in the fellowship hall. To make room for this newer piano, the old player piano (which no longer held its tune) has been removed. The cost for this removal was $200 and the cost to have the newer piano placed in the fellowship hall by a reliable piano moving company, whose employees can negotiate stairs is: $220. With this endeavor at hand, we therefore have a cost to the church of $420 of which $150 has been gratefully received. Donations to help us defer the additional expense of $270 are most appreciated in order to keep this expense out of the congregation’s general fund which has been tight through these winter months. If you would like to make a contribution, please write a check with the memo: “piano moving expense” and this will be a great benefit as we welcome the use of a piano.
