News from The Board of Directors . . . During July your BASC Board continued to familiarize itself with procedures and policies of the Center. They also
established committees and reviewed activities and trips planned for the center in order to continue to improve the
activities and services available to your center.
Effective immediately, your Board is very pleased to announce the appointment of Jeannie Bone as Interim
Director of the Barre Area Senior Center. At a special Board Meeting on Wednesday, July 16, 2018 the Board voted
unanimously to offer Jeannie this position. Since joining BASC in January Jeannie has been doing an outstanding job as a
volunteer; organizing files, redesigning, writing, editing and printing the BASC newsletter, planning trips and, along with
Sandy, has been the “face” of the Center since the middle of May. Her prior experiences also suggest to us that Jeannie is
very qualified to be very successful with this work. We are all very pleased

review Leadership designs for the future of our Center. Jeannie’s
energizing spirit, her positive friendly attitude and her dedication to a
successful Senior Center in Barre will serve us well as we move into our
next fifty years. This month is a GOLDEN opportunity to come in and
thank Jeannie for what she has already done and to share with her some
of your ideas to continue to make the Barre Area Senior center a more
welcoming, friendly, active “cool” place to be. WELCOME JEANNIE!
Your Board now meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:15pm.We invite everyone to attend these meeting
anytime as one way to share your voice and ideas.
SENIORS IN MOTION – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30 with Evalyn Goodrich. Cardio and strength exercises; Only
$30 for 10 sessions for members; nonmembers, $6 a session. BONE BUILDERS - Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. with Judy Prive. This program from Tufts University focuses on prevention against bone deterioration and may help increase bone density and muscle strength; improve balance, flexibility and energy; and increase social connections and reduced isolation. Rise and shine and give your day a boost! Free. “Now Is The Time – Health Care for Everybody” – August 9th at 10:00am – Sponsored by The Vermont Alliance for Retired Americans, this hour long video highlights national and state-level efforts to bring Single Payer Healthcare to America. A must see for everyone concerned about healthcare issues in Vermont. Free
HEARING SCREENING – Tuesday, August 21st at 1:30pm – Licensed Hearing Specialists from Avada Hearing Care Centers will hold a hearing screening that includes visual ear check, electronic tone check, and various hearing related exercises. Please Register. Free

You do not have to be a Member of BASC to embark on any of our trips. All trips are non-refundable unless cancelled by BASC .
Lunch at the Bryant House is included. Leave Berlin Park & Ride at 8am and return at 6:30pm. Bring a deck of cards, a good book or enjoy friendly conversation on the ride! This trip is always a sellout so be sure to Register early - $120 Cutoff is Thursday August 9th.

Are you looking for ways to be more active here at BASC? Consider Volunteering on Tuesdays to help in the kitchen, set up the dining area or even assist in serving our weekly lunches. We also need volunteers Monday through Thursdays from 1:00-3:00 to answer phones, greet people & help with various tasks at the center. Perhaps you might be interested in serving on a committee or assist with an upcoming event. Check with Sandy or Jeannie for more info.
BOOK DISCUSSION – Please join John Poeton on Thursday, August 9th at 1 p.m. (always the second Thursday of the month). This month is Reader’s Choice! Choose any book either Non-fiction or Biography and be prepared to share a little information about your selection, why you chose that book and your thoughts and opinions.
