BACKGROUND
Double-blinded, randomized, 6-days, crossover study
Patients were admitted to the Department of Pediatric Federico II University, Naples Italy
Experimental preparation was given in the same amount of conventional starch according to patients’ diet
Glucose, lactate, venous pH, serum insuline were measured before and after each meal
72h continuous glucose monitoring was performed
The participants were asked to reproduce the everyday life as much as possible

The experimental starch maintained blood glucose concentrations longer than did the traditional therapy in 2/3 GSD1a1/2 GSD1b
The daily amount of starch was reduced in 2/3 GSD1a, 1/2 GSD1b
No significant effect was observed on insulin, lactic acid levels and venous pH
No side effect was observed
…not so tasty

CONCLUSIONI
AMIDO FISICAMENTE MODIFICATO VS AMIDO STANDARD
Migliore controllo della glicemia
Maggior riduzione dell’acido lattico plasmatico
Miglior assorbimento con minore fermentazione colica dell’amido non digerito
Nessuna differenza statisticamente significativa del profilo insulinico
