Ridi che ti passa
The IACS Gioventù has planned a great evening of dinner and entertainment for Friday, October 23. The doors will open at 6:30 P.M. A family style dinner, including beer and wine, will be served at 7:30. The show begins at 9:00 P.M. Tickets are $55 per person for members and $60 per person for non-members and are available at the IACS office or from members of the Gioventù.
The entertainment will be provided by the Italian comedy troupe, Ridi che ti passa (“Laugh and it will pass”), who star in a television show of the same name. The main characters are Massimo Napoli, Francesca Cirafisi, Luca La Barbera and Luigi Di Mino. A production of Luca La Barbera’s Elleelle Events, the group was formed in 2012 with the main objective of creating harmony, joy, and cheer, and forming a lighthearted bond with their television and stage audiences.
They create videos out of comedy routines, and also collaborate with companies to create entertaining commercials to advertise in a fun and different way. Their goal has always been to generate smiles in trying times.
For a preview you can view their YouTube channel “Ridi che ti passa tube”. Don’t miss this evening of fun at the IACS.

Soprano Eva Evola & Baritone Dino Valle Concert TourCinisi-Serano-Ceprano-Rome
The operatic tour started in Cinisi, a beautiful and pic-turesque town, just 35 miles from Palermo. Festa of San-ta Fara, patron saint of Cinisi is a three-day festival. The program started Friday eve-ning at seven o’clock, with the Holy Mass Celebrated by Don Vincenzo Gaglio in the church of Santa Fara. Baritone Dino Vale sang at mass during Communion. A marching band started the Festival – the operatic con-cert with Eva Evola, Roy Cardile, and Dino Valle.
The idea of having two Ital-ian American performers, Eva Evola and Dino Valle, at the Festa was by Ro-solino Lo Duca, President of Bellini Opera, Michael Chirco, Chairman of Bellini Opera, David Evola, Board Member – generously made this event a reality; Don Vincenzo Gaglio Arciprete of Santa Fara and Vincenzo Pizzo, Presidente del Comi-tato Festa. The Master of Ceremonies, Antonio Palaz-zolo, introduced Eva Evola as she entered on stage, and she immediately takes con-trol of the first number.
Piazza Di Cinisi, with over two thousand Cinisari, the mayor and other political figures erupted in thunder-ous applause. Eva Evola sings O mio Babbino Caro from Gianni Schicchi by Puccini, dedicated to her father, Michael Chirco, who could not help shedding a joyful tear.
Saturday, July 4th, Eva re-prises the concert with addi-tional songs ciribiribin, Non ti scordar di me, Dino Valle encored Granada. Both Eva
and Dino received an award: Festa in Onore della Patrona Santa Fara Cinisi 3-4-5-Lugio 2015. To Soprano Eva Evola and Bari-tono Dino Valle Grazie per il gen-eroso impegno profuse nello spettacolo musi-cale “spot light on Ameri-can Musicals and Italian Classics”.
Sunday, July 5th, we left Ci-nisi to Serrano near Rome to perform and receive premio “Rocca d’ Oro. The 26th an-nual Premio Rocca d’Oro is given to persons who have dedicated their life to pro-mulgate arts, science, archi-tecture, music, opera, and more. The award reads: To Comm. Dino Valle, Verd-ian Baritone International Award in the Art of Music Bel Canto and Opera by President Giancarlo Flavi, President of Jury General Carlo Felice Corsetti, and Mayor of Serrano Natale Nucheli. The prize was also awarded to Gaia Maschi Verdi, related to the great Italian composer, Giuseppe Verdi.
The next day, Monday, July 6th, Dino Valle gave a concert in his home town, Ceprano at Villaggio and Museo Corsetti. Dino also had two special guests, So-prano Eva Evola and Mezzo Soprano Beatrice Mercuri. Dino’s family and special guests from Vatican and friends of General Carlo Felice Corsetti, Francesco Corsetti. By Sandra Tornberg
An eagerly awaited new business opened in Shelby Township on July 15. Eataliana Homemade Pasta, located at 52901 Shelby Road, at 24 Mile Road, sells many varieties of fresh pastas and sauces that are made on the premises. The many pastas include spaghetti, fettucine, pappardelle, mezzamaniche, and strozzapreti. You can also buy canneloni and lasagna, or choose from five types of ravioli: halfmoon ravioli (filled with ricotta and Parmeggiano Romano cheese and spinach), s u n f l o w e r r a v i o l i (filled with p r o s c i u t t o , Grana Padano cheese and r i c o t t a ) , square ravioli (filled with braised beef and pork, carrot, celery, and onion), t r i a n g l e r a v i o l i (filled with Gorgonzola cheese, walnuts and ricotta), and zucchini ravioli (filled with zucchini, Speck and ricotta). Their delicious sauces include Bolognese, arrabbiata, matriciana, salsa rosa, pesto, and cherry tomato sauce.
The pasta is made on state-of-the-art machines that were imported from Italy. They arrived with a chef who spent three weeks here setting up the equipment and working with the proprietors Michele and EleEleanora to
test it out.
Michele was born in Romania and Eleanora in Albania, both immigrating to Italy with their families as small children. They met when they were both studying at Sapienza University in Rome earning degrees in Languages and Culture. Michele was also interested in cooking and worked in restaurants in Rome, while Eleanora taught Italian to foreign students in the public schools in the Castelli Romani, south-east
of Rome. She also worked for the Associazione T u s l c o l a n a S o l i d a r i e t à , a non-profit organization that assists the poor, the handicapped, those suffering from addiction and mental illness, troubled youth, and i m m i g r a n t s . Michele and E l e a n o r a
decided to move here after visiting her parents, who had immigrated to Shelby Township.
You can eat at Eataliana Homemade Pasta, order a carryout, or purchase the
pasta and sauce and cook it at home. They offer Caprese, Greek, and Antipasto salads, and Eleanora also makes delicious Tiramisu.
Please stop by and meet Michele and EleEleanora, and try some of their delicious pasta.

Foundation historically has raised approximately $80,000 to assist regional nonprofit organizations fo-cused on helping children
in need
The Nino Salvaggio Chari-table Foundation for Chil-dren in Need will host its seventh fundraiser on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 7 p.m. until midnight. The benefit will be held at Andiamo Banquet Center located at 7096 E. 14 Mile Road in Warren. Nearly 400 people are expected to attend.
“My father, the late Nino Salvaggio, founded the Nino Salvaggio Charitable Foundation for Children in Need with the belief that every child deserves a chance and a childhood,” said Andrea Nicolella, President of the Founda-tion and Vice President of Nino Salvaggio Interna-tional Marketplace. “It’s easy to forget that some-thing so common as hav-ing a roof over your head or being able to go away to summer camp is not a reality for many children. The Foundation provides a life-changing—and for some, even a life-saving—experience for those we reach.”
Three local charities are expected to benefit from the event, including the Pope John Paul XXIII Hospitality House; Fami-lies Against Narcotics; and Life Remodeled.
The Pope John Paul XXIII Hospitality House in De-troit primarily provides
services for chil-dren with cancer, including housing during treatment and transportation to appointments.
The mission of Families Against Narcotics is saving lives by empower-ing individuals and communities to prevent and eradicate addic-tion. The orga-nization seeks to remove the stigma associated with addiction through education. It also raises awareness of the growing problem of pre-scription painkiller abuse among all ages as well as the increased use of heroin by young people.
Life Remodeled is a non-profit organization that ex-ists to remodel lives – one neighborhood at a time. They use holistic strate-gies to make dramatic and immediate impact in com-munities and to establish foundations for long-term sustainable growth and development. Its annual project includes remodel-ing a Detroit school each summer to help create academic and athletic im-provements and to restore the school as a source of pride within the commu-nity. This summer it is remodeling Osborn High School and the surround-ing neighborhood, located on Detroit’s east side.
Playing a mix of upbeat
popular tunes, contempo-rary jazz and timeless Mo-town classics, live enter-tainment will be provided by the band, DTour. Si-lent auction items include signed and unsigned sports memorabilia, jewelry, ho-tel stays, wine baskets, res-taurant gift certificates and much more.
A strolling menu prepared by the culinary team at Nino Salvaggio Interna-tional Marketplace and Andiamo Banquet Center will be served. Guests also will enjoy a premium bar, raffles and great company.
Tickets are $100 and can be ordered by visiting http://www.ninosalvaggio.com/products-page/charity-event-tickets/ninos-char-ity-event-ticket/. Dressy casual attire is requested. All proceeds go directly to children in need. No ad-ministrative or executive
costs are accepted by any member of the Nino Sal-vaggio Charitable Founda-tion for Children in Need. For additional information about the event, contact [email protected].

The Festa Della Donna Committee hosted a fundraiser luncheon on June 30 in honor of their dear friend Maria Costantini, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2013. Event chairperson Martina Finazza has known Maria for over forty years and told the guests that Maria has shown tremendous courage throughout her ordeal. The event was organized to demonstrate love for Maria and encourage her to never give up.
Martina’s committee consisted of Serafina Loria, Graziella Militello, Marianna D’Anna, Carolina Tocco, Lia Vitale,Nancy Militello, Rosemarie Bommarito. She was also assisted by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sarah and Tonino Corsetti. The event was held at the Palazzo Grande, who Maria thanked for their support and sponsorship. She also expressed her gratitude to Vince & Joe’s for their sponsorship of the Festa Della Donna Committee.
Guest speaker Marilyn Brozovic of the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance presented important information regarding the disease. Ms. Brozovic is a two-time breast cancer survivor of twenty-seven years and ovarian cancer survivor for seventeen years. The goal of the MIOCA is to increase the number of people who recognize the symptoms and risk factors relating to ovarian cancer so that the disease is detected earlier, and ultimately to save women’s lives. Ovarian
cancer is the deadliest of gynecologic cancers, with only 15% of cases caught early. A woman’s lifetime risk of developing invasive ovarian cancer is one 1 in 72, and the risk of dying from the disease is 1 in 95. Women in the general population are not routinely screened for ovarian
cancer, and a pap smear does not check for ovarian cancer.
The symptoms of ovarian cancer are:
Bloating •
Pelvic/Abdominal Pain •
Eating Difficulties or •
Feeling Full Quickly
Urinary Issues •
– Urgency/Frequency
Fatigue•
Indigestion or gas•
Back pain•
Pain with intercourse•
Constipation or diarrhea•
Menstrual irregularities•
Weight gain or loss•
Shortness of breath•
The audience was moved when Maria stood up to tell her story. She shared that she has been to Mexico for treatment and that she is responding well to her chemotherapy treatments. She expressed her appreciation for her oncologist Dr. Michael Hicks.
Rosalba Pacella, founder of the Teen Angels Foundation, told Maria that she has been selected as the organization’s “Angel on Earth” for this year. She presented Maria a check for $5000 to help with medical bills.
Martina closed by thanking the guests for attending, and demonstrating that “when people open their hearts, great things happen.”
For additional information about Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance and their One to One Ovarian Cancer Support Group, please visit MIOCA.org. The Festa della Donna Committee will once again host a luncheon on March 8, 2016, International Women’s Day, at the Palazzo Grande. All proceeds benefit women’s charities in our area.

Vincenzo Ciraulo’s dedication to family, hard work, and dedication to the Community continues to spark his energy and passion and that is why he will be honored this year as the “2015 Man of the Year” by Lodge Figli Della Sicilia on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
“Family first” is the number one guiding principle contributing to the success that Vince Ciraulo has achieved in his life and business. Fairness and compassion are the cornerstones of his character.
He is most proud of his beautiful wife of 32 years, Sheri, and twin daughters, Nicoletta and Alexandra; grateful for their support and encouragement, not to mention the motivation that two girls in their third year at U of M requires.

Lodge Figli Della Sicilia Presents
“2015 Man of the Year” to Mr. Vincenzo Ciraulo
Vince spends his workdays very active and present as Owner and CEO of Square Deal Building Supply, employing a staff of more than 80 people among four distribution centers serving the entire state of Michigan and surrounding Midwest states. Employees are like family too, and Vince holds each to a high standard of accountability and hard work. Being tough minded is balanced with fairness and challenge to bring out the best in his employees.
In 1967 at nine years of age Vince immigrated from Polizzi Generosa, Pro. Palermo, Sicily with his mother Stefina Nicoletta and four of his siblings, joining his father Salvatore and 2 older siblings in America.
At the age of 10 he was working a summer job washing and detailing cars
and at the age of 13 Vince was employed by Las Vegas Fruit Market, displaying produce. At 17 he worked as a salesman selling furniture for Quality Furniture in Detroit. Although he proved to be a hard working employee, Vince had always envisioned being in business for himself, influenced by his father, a farmer with several employees in Sicily.
After graduating from Denby High School in 1975, Vince was mentored by Bob Gennette, a remodeler in home improvement. One year later, Vince founded Luck Aluminum and worked alongside Bob in home remodeling, installing roofing, siding, windows and doors. In 1980 Vince started Ciraulo Brothers Building Co. with his older brother Antonio, building custom homes.
Vince co-founded Square Deal Building Supply in 1988 with a partner and became sole owner in 2005. Today, Square Deal is one of the largest independent distributors in the business serving p r o f e s s i o n a l contractors, builders and lumberyard dealers with specialty, name brand products and remarkable services.
In 2001, Vince became a citizen of
the United States. While proud of his American citizenship, Vince has never forgotten his Sicilian heritage and strongly supports the Italian community. A fair and simple rule that Vince lives by is “Treat people as you want to be treated and regardless of your success, don’t forget your roots!”
Lodge Figli Della Sicilia was founded in 1936 and continues to be one of the largest Sicilian Clubs in Michigan with over 250 members. This year on Saturday, September 26, 2015 will be the 79th Annual Banquet at Penna’s of Sterling presenting the “2015 Man of the Year Award” to Mr. Vincenzo Ciraulo for his contributions and dedication
to the Italian-American community of Metro Detroit. Padre Giulio Schiavi and Padre Pino Licciardi will also be present to give the invocation. There will be a tremendous menu lined up for the evening along with the live band “One1ManOut” from Windsor playing Italian-American music to dance the night away. Tickets are $55.00 a person, and tables of (10) are available. Please call early for reservations, as seating is limited. For more information, or for reservations, please call President Salvatore Previti (586) 703-7413, Chairman Giuseppe Cottone (586) 774-1905, or Secretary Sebastiano Previti (586) 206-5185.

Ever wish you could learn to speak a few more words than “Ciao” or “Buon Appetito” in a relaxed and friendly en-vironment without the pres-sure of exams and lengthy homework?
Italian lessons for adults and children are now be-ing offered by the Italian American Cultural Society in Clinton Township, Michi-gan. Courses range from Saturday morning children’s lessons to weeknight classes for adults, with beginning to advanced language skills.
The comprehensive lessons include reading, writing, vo-cabulary, conversation, and cultural introductions. They are taught by native Ital-ian speakers with teaching degrees, yet have the social feeling of meeting up with a few friends or taking a quick trip to Italy.
Children have workbooks and other materials including music at their grade levels to help them learn the language without the pressure of tak-
ing tests and having home-work. Learning Italian and other languages has proven to help children understand English grammar, too.
The focus for the adults, on the other hand, is on devel-oping stronger conversation skills to help with a visit to Italy or to keep language skills sharp. There is a per-fect course level waiting for you.
Contact the Italian Ameri-can Cultural Society today to find the right course for you. Adult semester classes begin the week of Monday, September 14, 2015, and all classes are from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The Saturday chil-dren’s courses are school-year long. The first class is on Saturday, September 26, 2015 until the end of April 2016.
For more information, visit the IACS website – www.iacsonline.com or call the Center (586-228-3030, Ext. 15) for specific days and times.

Noi no. Ci proviamo. Ogni giorno. Passo dopo passo.
“Paghiamo troppe tasse, folle continuare così” - “In Italia paghiamo troppe tasse - afferma Renzi -.
