Week 8: Exercise 7 INSTRUCTIONS
COMPLETE EACH STEP ONE AT A TIME BEFORE GOING ON TO THE NEXT STEP.
1. Make yourself a printed copy of these Instructions and the attached page. Complete this task beforecontinuing to step 2.
2. You will go through the list of adjectives on your printed copy three times. First, go through the list
and check those in column A (SELF) that you think describes your self. Just place a check mark inthe space beside each adjective that applies to you and leave the others blank. Answer frankly and
honestly without spending too much time on any particular adjective. STOP: Complete this task
now before going to step 3.
3. Next, think of a close friend. Then go through the list of adjectives again and check in the second
column B (FRIEND) those that describe your friend. STOP: Complete this task before going tostep 4.
4. Finally, think about somebody who you know fairly well but with whom you could never befriends. Go through the list of adjectives again and check in the third column C (NON-FRIEND)
the adjectives that describe that person. Complete this task now before going to step 5.
5. After you have completed the above tasks, count the number of traits in common between your selfand your friend (Columns A and B). Note: Traits in common occur (1) whenever a trait is checked
for both self and friend, or (2) whenever a trait is unchecked for both self and friend. Enter the total
traits in common in Box A/B below the friend column.
6. Also, count the number of traits in common between your self and the non-friend (Columns A and
C). Again, a trait in common occurs whenever it is checked for both yourself and the non-friend, orwhenever it is unchecked for both of you. Enter the total traits in common in Box A/C below the
non-friend column.
7. Now go back to our class website and answer the survey questions in the Week8: Exercise 7 in
the Exercise folder.
