FROM THE POTENTATE’S DESK
As November drew nigh, many memories were made by those who participated at Ali Ghan Shrine during the month. Our second trip to the Children’s Shriners Hos-pital in Philadelphia in 2017 was one of giving and receiving. Ali Ghan Temple made a monetary contribution to the hospital, and First Lady Darcy, Ladies Becky Beachy, Mary Freeman, and Marilyn Adam presented 48 children’s quilts that were the cul-mination of Ali Ghan’s First Lady’s project. We received a warm welcome from the Board of Governors and the current Chairman of the Board Fred Widmyer. The Birthday Dinner/Temple Meeting was well-attended by 50+ members and guests. Veterans of the US Armed Forces were honored for all they have done to keep our Homeland free.
Several members of the Ali Ghan Family were thanked for their services to the Fraternity, Club, and Temple. Noble Tom Paxton was recognized as the Shriner of the Year for 2017. Noble Curt Haines was recognized for his many years of service to Ali Ghan and our patients. Ladies Becky Beachy, Lil Jacobs, Regina Hansel, and Barb Sweitzer were recognized for all their efforts and hard work in keeping Ali Ghan as beautiful as it has always been.
The Black Camel has visited again as Noble Willard Kitzmiller, and Noble John Kahl laid down their working tools for the last time.
A new secretary, Stephanie Sledge, has been hired. Additional Red Fez Boosters for November 2018 are Shirley Brinkman in memory of Les Brinkman, and Charlie Hout in memory of Patricia Hout.
Dates to remember are December 6-Election Meeting at 8 PM, December 10– Children’s Christmas Party, December 15-Eggnog Party, and December 22– A Christ-mas Steak Buffet with the meal being served from 5:30-7:30 PM and drink specials and gaming until 10 PM. Please call 301-501-2231 or 301-268-4999 for reserva-tions for the Steak Buffet (required).
As I and others loosened our belts after a great Thanksgiving meal at Ali Ghan provided by Deep Creek Lake Catering, we invite one and all to come out and see your Temple decorated for the holidays.
In closing, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Yours in faith,
E. William DuVall II

My Blessings to Nobles of the Railroad Unit and of Ali Ghan Temple. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed all the good food and fellow-ship with family and friends. It is now time to get ready for the big guy dressed in red. Don’t forget to register your children or grandchildren for the Temple Christmas party as they always have a good time.
We at the Railroad Unit have received some good news from the state of Md. in particular the Department of Labor and Licensing as this past summer we had a representative from this agency say that we had to have our train inspect-ed. Well as it turns out we received our certificate of registration from them without having to have an inspection since we are not a public amusement ride. How we got on their list to begin with is a mystery but we are good to go.
We are looking forward to our annual Christmas party on Dec. 2nd and this year
we are combining with the Ritualistic Unit for this event at our unit building. I
like this as it gives us the opportunity to meet and socialize with other members
of the Temple. I hope everyone has a good time.
We are looking forward to several Christmas parades in Dec. and if anyone is
interested in participating let us know.
Ali Ghan will again be helping the Salvation Army with it’s annual bell ringing
and our day for that is Dec. 23. We will have a signup sheet for the Railroad
Unit at our Christmas party.
One more important item is our lucky calendars for 2018 are in the Unit build-
ing and going quick so if you have not received any come down and get some
and help us sell them. They make good Christmas gifts.
As we close the books for 2017 we thank our leaders here at the Railroad Unit
and at the Temple for their guidance and wish the new leaders a successful year
in 2018.
Respectfully Submitted
Wayne D. Robertson Sr. President
