INTRODUCTION
Success will not come easily to a person. One have to work hard and diligently in
order to achieve success and have what one‟s want in their life. So, in order for me to realise
this, a project was given in form of an interview.
This project requires me to interview a prominent person who has willingly
contributed to the community.First of all, I have to choose one person that fits all the criteria

it seemed that the interviewee fits the criteria above.
His success and hardships in making better life not only for himself but also to the
people around him made me realise I had choosen the right man.

3. Descriptions of the Interviews
Interviews sessions run smoothly, without any
problems and in relaxing mood. I got a lot of valuable
experience in this interview session. The result of this
interview clearly shows that i had choose the right person that
meets the criteria for my interview. He was a prominentperson who has contributed to the community in development
of economic, social and educational. Although he was busy, i
was thankful to him because he managed to spent few of his
precious times for this interview.
3.1 His contributions in development of community economic
He was the person who first introduced the Banghuris Homestay project to the
residents of Kampung Hulu Chuchuh, Kampung Bukit Bangkong and Kampung Hulu Teris.
According to him, homestay is an excellent way to make friends, learn about Malaysia‟s multi
– racial culture, and have a taste of the kampung or village lifestyle. Not only that, the tourists
can also save their money and also get to know Malaysians the fastest way. He also said that
the villagers can also make this homestay project as their side incomes and also have the new
tourists as their adopted children.

The Bar graph showed foreign
tourist arrivals to Kampung Hulu
Chuchuh since April 1995 until June
2002.
This Homestay project was widely accepted. However, in order to make sure the
project will continue to give a constant income to the villagers, he had to publicize Banghuris.
Since Tuan Haji Salam has a tourism company, he decided to put the pamphlet about
Banghuris in his lobby. He also introduces about the Banghuris homestay project to the other
tourism country and put up advertisement in web. Without his hard efforts, the Homestay
project will certainly cannot become a huge success.
Majority the villagers were a farmers such as oil palm growers, vegetables farmers,
rubber tapers and others. As a member of the board in Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang
Kawasan (LPPK), he was responsible for ensuring that the villagers who worked as farmers
were assisted accordingly. He made sure that the goverment subsidies in the form of
fertilizers, pesticide, plant seedlings were all distributed fairly to all the farmers allotted.
Furthermore, he also held seminars, workshops, lectures and guidance to farmers in his
village in order to increase the villages income.
Because of his helps, Kampung Hulu Chuchuh small industries is now developing
very nicely. Not only that, his ways are quite consistent with the goverment campaign „
Agricultural Is a Bussiness‟ and „One Village One Industries‟,

3.2 His contributions in social development of community
JKKK have many goals for the community. One of them is to convince the public in
living a perfect life based on Islam Hadhari, love and strive to improve the quality of the
education world and hereafter. Their second goal is to encourage villagers on self-reliant
community to improve their economic status of themselves and their families in create
competitive, dynamic, robust and resilient. Lastly, they are responsible in planting a sense of
belonging and friendship among the villagers through various activities such as religious,
collaborative and recreation activities.
As Tuan Haji Salam is one of the JKKK‟s committee, he was also very concerned
about the education among villagers, especially the youth. In a meeting, he suggested that
children who have potential furthering their studies but does not have enough expenses will
be support through the scheme of Amanah Ikhtiar. Amanah Ikhtiar was actually a scheme that
gives the poor families loan for them to start small businesses or project. When the families‟
financial have become stable, they have to pay back the loan. The loan will then be given to
the other family.
He also suggested that the village made tuition classes for the children that will take
big examinations like Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Peperiksaan Menengah
Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pendidikan Menengah (SPM). The tuition will be conducted during
school holidays because he believed that children should not waste their time. The tuition
teachers are all volunteers either from the village‟s school teachers or from the Institut
Pendidikan Tinggi Awam (IPTA) students.
He believed that young people are the hope of the nation and the leader of tomorrow.
Not only that, surveys and media reports have highlighted numerous news involving teenagers
as the victims of social illness. Realizing the pressing need for youth to have healthy outlets
for their boundless energy, he as one the member of JKKK has implemented a special
programme that specialized in creating clubs. Examples of the clubs are Kompang Club, Seni
Silat Melayu Club, Rakan Muda Club, Jabber Club and many others. Through this
programme, they especially Tuan Haji Salam hope to mold young people into becoming
patriotic citizen, to inculcate in them a sense of self-pride, a driving sense of ambition, as well
as to instill a sense of responsibility toward the community and nation.

This man has been very actively involved in various local government implemented
campaign under the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung. Examples of the
campaigns are “Cintai Sungai Kita”, “Satu Kampung, Satu Industri”, “Pertanian Satu
Perniagaan” and others.
Furthermore, Kampung Hulu Chuchuh has been lucky in receiving many awards.
However, most of the awards were received under Tuan Haji Salam‟s leadership. Kampung
Hulu Chuchuh was the champion in The Best Village Competition on 1993 and 1995. This
village also became the champion in „Ilham Desa Competition‟ on 1995.
4. Conclusions
I had gained a lot of valuable knowledge from this interview session. This
programme made me realize how difficult it is to become a leader. Not only that, it
also made me realize how important it is for us to become responsible citizen. We, as
Malaysian citizen and living in a community should not be selfish. We should at least
contribute something to our community without asking for returns.

2. Homestay
Homestay in Malaysia
Arriving in Malaysia, you
land in the ultra modern
Sepang International
airport and ride into
Kuala Lumpur where
you marvel at the tallest
twin towers in the
world, Petronas Towers. After checking into a
200 rooms hotel, you
take to the shopping
mall located below the
Twin Tower. Most people
around you seem
hurried to get
somewhere or busy
chatting away into their cell phones. But the real Malaysia is not all this but something
else as well. Many of the population still live in a unhurried and rather charming and
traditional lifestyle, where time seems to go at snails pace and the air clean and fresh.
Treat yourself to a village(Kampung in Malay) Homestay in Malaysia. Be "adopted" by a family and be treated as a member of the family for the duration of
your stay. To get a better appreciation of the culture, you may wear traditional attire, go
fishing in a river, play kites with the children, eat simple local food, observe local
customs, architecture, and furniture and participate in village activities. As they are
mostly a Muslim village, there is no alcohol and it is respectful to dress modestly. Many
villages still rely on agriculture as their primary source of income.

culture, and have a taste of the kampung or village lifestyle. It is fun, safe, and an
affordable way to stay in Malaysia and you can interact and experience village-style living
first-hand as well as the Malaysian culture. Live with the locals and eat with them; be a
part of their family in a traditional village is perhaps one of the fastest and easiest ways
to get to know the real Malaysia.
Situated away from the busy and hectic life of the city, you will be experience the unique
yet peace-of-mind traditional lifestyle of Malaysia. For those who relish the quiet calm of the rustic life, this is possibly as good as it gets.
Homestay in a traditional kampung house
The rural living areas in Malaysia are called ‘kampungs’. In these kampungs,
majority of the houses are built on stilts and amenities offer basic comfort, many have
very huge and wide windows which make the houses airy and cool. Electricity and
running water are available and the kampungs are well connected to big cities via
modern highways and public transport.
