Letter from the Chaplain
New beginnings are always filled
with great possibilities. What is especially exciting about new beginnings is the potential for new discoveries and new growth. Such new discoveries and new growth have the potential to shape our lives and have lasting positive effects on the persons we eventually become. As we begin this 2014 Fall Semester, it is our hope that each student here at Texas Southern University will embrace this new beginning with great enthusiasm for the potential that it brings.
The encounter with new subjects, new professors, and new classmates, bring with them the opportunity to recreate one’s self into the person you want to eventually become. It is incumbent upon each student, here at Texas Southern, to seriously embrace once again this new beginning. It is also

an opportunity once again to commit one’s self to striving for excellence in the academic arena. And, as you strive for academic excellence let us not forget that this new beginning can also be an opportunity for new spiritual discoveries and growth as well. The

The Newman Club: Leaders of Tomorrow Being one of many organizations on campus makes it hard to stand out at times but easy to make a difference. When asked what Nez Thomas, Historian of the Newman Club - a Catholic Student Organization - hopes to change, he responded, “leaving a positive impression on the new students that come to the Newman Center is where I will start with making a difference.” In this academic year of new beginnings, the Newman club leaders are ready to get their feet wet with activities not only on campus but at the Newman Center as well to acclimate the incoming freshmen and those joining TSU for the first time. Chandler Wimbish, President, said “the Newman Club to me means a spiritual family of brother and sisterhood.” The leaders of the Newman Club include : Larry Wimbish, Vice-President; Oladapo Alvin Omoyele, Treasurer; and Chelcei Flannel, Secretary

tudents are what keep a campus alive and running, without them where wouldTSU be, so their view is just
as important.!
The Newman Center, going into the new school year, has been very perceptive to the student’s needs, being a student center itself, as well as the campus’ needs. Every campus does not have a Newman Center where students can go not only for a release from campus life but also for spiritual guidance. It is “a place to go in the neighborhood where the positive atmosphere is contagious” according to, junior, Kenneth Williams. !
The Newman Center recently put on a Luncheon to welcome approximately 150 First-Year Law students. As a next door neighbor to the Law School, several Law students find this hidden treasure to be a safe haven from their grueling schedules.!
Senior, Xavier Lane, who helped serve at the luncheon, is eager to see more campus organized events to increase community hours as well as more involvement with the community and the school in his last year as a TSU student.
