WHO WE AREARCS Foundation (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists),

is a private organization conceived and run entirely by philanthropic

women to address this country’s most critical competitiveness issue –

the serious shortage of American scientists and engineers. Since our

founding in 1958 by a few women in Los Angeles, ARCS Foundation has

grown to 17 chapters nationally and invested more than $87 million in the

innovation potential of almost 9,000 of the most outstanding American

scholars in science, engineering and medical research at 54 of the

country’s top research universities.

We are very proud of what ARCS Foundation has accomplished as a

grass roots group with a very small budget. The Portland Chapter was

founded in 2004, and since that time we have raised over $2.5 million

to sponsor 150 graduate students working to complete PhDs at OHSU

and Oregon State University. We know our mission is important to our

country’s economic growth, our global technological leadership and

ultimately the well-being and the quality of life for all people.
