MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
In ten brief chapters, each illuminated by classical sto-ries or personal narratives, Arthur Green lays out his argument for ongoing commitment to Jewish memory and Judaism’s unique approach to universal truth. He shows in completely accessible ways what it is that kept him loyal to the tradition passed down to him, even as he understood the great need to allow for change and new ideas, including those coming from the East, in our age of diverse spiritual learning and transformation.

MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
Rabbi Edward Feinstein begins exploring chutzpah
in the early chapters of Genesis. He then describes
how the idea was encoded into the Jewish national
narrative through biblical law, and how the Rabbis
of the Talmud embraced it as the center of Judaism.
He shows how the Rabbis’ sense of their own self-
empowerment reshaped their religious tradition in
response to the destruction of the Temple. Turning
to the mystics of medieval Spain and the European
Hasidic tradition, Feinstein shows how chutzpah
found its expression in the tradition of Kabbalah.
Finally, he explores the theme of empowerment in
modernity, as the centerpiece of Zionism and post-
Holocaust thought.

8 A powerful, life-affi rming new perspective on the Holocaust.
MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
For the children and grandchildren of Holocaust (Shoah) sur-vivors and refugees from Nazi persecution, the suffering and survival of their immediate ancestors, and the annihilation of virtually their entire families, have in large part shaped their perspectives on God, faith and Jewish identity. Their reflec-tions on the memories transmitted to them, and its effect on their lives, will inform, challenge and inspire people of all faiths and backgrounds.
While the collective legacy of Holocaust survivors and refu-gees belongs to the entire Jewish people, as well as human-kind as a whole, on an individual level this extremely personal and often idiosyncratic legacy was transmitted first and fore-most by the survivors to their own children and grandchildren. There is no one form of this legacy. Some survivors spoke about their experiences in the ghettos and camps; others en-veloped themselves and their families in a cloud of silence, shrouding their past in an aura of mystery and secrecy.
There have been many books and studies about children of survivors—the so-called Second and Third Generations—with a psycho-social focus. This book is different. It is intended to reflect what they believe, who they are and how that informs what they are doing with their lives.

What do the High Holy Days have to say about universalism and particularism in Judaism?• Assembles almost forty contributors—
scholars, rabbis, artists and thinkers from Canada, France, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, the UK and the USA.
• Combines the particularistic concern for Israel as a people called by God with the universalistic proclamation that Israel is called for universal ends.
MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
Rosh Hashanah is just one of two surviving Jewish new years from antiquity, the other being the month in which Passover falls. The two are exactly six months apart, proper symbolism of the age-old Jewish struggle to bal-ance two contrasting principles: universalism and partic-ularism. Passover’s central theme is the particularistic tale of the Jewish People released from servitude in Egypt to fulfill its historic destiny. The message of Rosh Hashanah, by contrast, is the universalistic definition of that destiny, the role that every Jew must play simply by virtue of be-ing human, and the role of Judaism in helping Jews play that role with proper passion and commitment.

MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
The soul yearns to feel connected to something greater and to know happiness despite personal suffering. The teachings of nineteenth-century Ha-sidic spiritual teachers offer a radically different Jewish theology that speaks to contemporary spiri-tual seekers whose faith has been shattered by mo-dernity and the Holocaust. These masters taught of interdependence, interconnectedness, selflessness, service and joy, anticipating the insights of contem-porary science and twenty-first-century spirituality.
Mindfulness meditation directs practitioners to focus on each moment. This spiritual practice offers the possibility of inner peace, fearlessness and con-cern for the wellbeing of others.

MORE ABOUT THE BOOK
Mussar Yoga is a spiritual practice that engages the whole self in the process of spiritual trans-formation. In this clear and structured introduc-tion to Mussar Yoga, readers will learn how to explore the physical dimension of soul traits—ethical behaviors and attitudes—such as hu-mility, generosity, enthusiasm and gratitude through yoga poses and the yogic practice of breath work. With practice, Mussar Yoga can help free participants from established nega-tive patterns of being, increase their capacity for compassion and acts of goodness, and help them develop a more fulfilling, meaningful life.
