David had no fear ofbeing honest. He facedlifewithanopennessthatallowed him to vent hisfeelings, state his fears, expresshisdesires, andclaimGod’spromises. “Keep me safe, OGod!” is the way Davidbegins Psalm 16. Andthen states immediatelythat he, at thatmoment, came to Him for refuge:“In you I take refuge.”He did not say that hetookrefugeinGodinthepast or that he plannedon taking refuge in Godinthefuture.Indeednot.Somethingwasthreaten-inghimat that verymo-mentandheimmediatelywenttoGodforhelp. Sometimes we waitbeforewegotoGodwithour needs. We believethat we are capable ofhandling our fears andfailuresbyourselves. We

often think that we cancover up our mistakesand faults. But there isnothinginusoraboutusorhascomefromusthatis beyond God’s love, mercy and power. Heknowswhoweare,seesusasweareandunder-standswhatwearegoingthroughandiswaitingforourcallforhelp. The word keep asused in this Psalm canalso be interpreted tomeanwatchover - asashepherd watches overhis flock, or as a guardwhokeepswatchovertheprisoners he is chargedtocontrolandcontain. David knew the re-sponsibilities of shep-herds first-hand. If any-thing happened to thesheep, the shepherdwould be held account-able. He also knew, asa king, that if prisonersescaped, an entire king-dom could be damagedordestroyed.DavidknewWhototrust!

In An Hour That Ye Think Notby BOB CASEY, Preacher

Church of Christ, 262 Broadway, Irvine, KY InMatthew 42-44,thisiswritten,“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” I have no illusion concerning the moods of mostfolksregardingthepossibility thatourLordcouldre-turneventoday,foritseemsbytheiractionsthattheydonotbelievethatHiscomingmaybesoon.Iask,willthispreventHissuddenreturn?Ithinknot. And another an-gel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
