AMS NO-DIG
companyThe
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is atechnique by which pipe, duct or cablecan be installed underground withoutdisturbing surface structures and therebyavoiding the disruption caused bytraditional open trenching methods.
Installations under motorways, waterways, railways, airport runwaysand SSSI sites are routine.
The cost savings resulting from theapplication of this technology, inboth direct and consequentialterms, can be very significant.HDD is fast, efficient andenvironmentally friendly.
Using the latest in toolingand mud technology, successful installationscan be achieved in mostground formations.
The AMS No-Digfleet has thecapacity to installproduct up to1500mm in
diameter and up to 2km in length, subject to ground conditions.
The processA pilot bore is drilled from a launch pit atone end of the planned installation, alonga predetermined route, to an exit pit atthe other end.
The drill head contains a transmitting deviceby means of which the position, depth, pitch and roll of drill head can be monitoredas the pilot drill progresses. Adjustments tothe line and level can be made throughoutthe pilot drilling process thereby achievingthe planned bore profile.
When the pilot bore is complete, the drillhead is removed from the drill string andreplaced with an appropriate hole openingdevice. This is rotated and pulled backthrough the bore thereby increasing thehole diameter.
When the bore is of sufficient size the pipeis attached by means of a swivel andtowing head and installed as the drillstring is retracted.

Auger BoringGuided Auger Boring can provide asolution in situations where HDD cannotbe utilised, where set up room is limitedor in situations where levels are critical.
Traditionally this technique has beenused for the installation of vitrified claygravity sewers, but is now beingincreasingly used for the insertion ofsteel sleeves used to carry utilityinstallations.
The AMS No-Dig fleet has thecapacity to install product up to900mm in diameter and up to90m in length, subject toprevailing groundconditions.
The processDirectional Auger Boring is a techniquewhereby product is installed between twoprepared shafts, usually manholes.
The boring rig is set up in the drive shaftand the laser guided probe is then jackedthrough the ground to the reception shaft.Steel casing pipes are then jacked intoposition following the pathway madeby the guided probe.
As jacking progresses the spoil is cut fromthe face and removed by means of theauger flights which are rotated within thesteel casings.
On completion of this operation the productpipes are pushed into position from thedrive shaft with the augers and steelcasings being progressively removedat the reception shaft.
