HOW WAS YOUR SUMMER?
Retailers Faced One of Hottest
Summers on Record
As we wrap up one of the 10 warmest
summers on record, retailers who might be
asked "How Was Your Summer?" are most
likely to answer "terrible" According to the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the summer of 2010
was actually the 4th warmest on record - dating back to 1895.
Only 1934, 1936 and 2006 were warmer.
All the record heat meant that retailers' HVAC systems had to
work harder and more efficiently to keep customers cooled. And,
the heat meant increased energy costs. The scope of energy usage
during the hot summer months means the scale of wasted energy
was up a considerable amount. While retailers may be breathing
a sigh of relief that a long hot summer is coming to a close, the
bad news is that unless the retailer demands more from their
HVAC professional, the 2010 statistics are likely to be repeated
or increased next summer.

players from utility companies will share insight into Big Box
Retail Demand-Side and How Utility Rebates are Determined.
According to Mark Barraclough, president Alpine Mechanical
Services, "Energy rebates and greening in place are key
profitability factors for today's smart retailer. Big boxes, in
particular, are finding that turning to companies, like Alpine, for
HVAC maintenance makes good dollar sense. Some of the key
technologies our company employs in diagnosing and providing
preventative maintenance give retailers a big boost when it
comes to saving energy and scoring rebates."
On the workshop's final day a round table session entitled Coffee
Connection will be held. One key discussion in The Changing
Environment of Demand Response will be led by Alpine founder
Mark Barraclough who will address how retailers can help
reduce electricity demand while also improving their efficiencies
and budget, through the recommissioning of HVAC units.
Attendees can also learn about HVAC incentives and rebates for
the retail market by visiting Alpine Mechanical Services at
Booth 113 at the EEI National Accounts Workshop.
Technology Update for Retailers
Technology to Help Retailers
Save Energy and Dollars!
New advances in technology are constantly
changing the way the HVAC industry
operates - and, is helping retailers reduce their
energy bills. Currently, the HVAC maintenance market is
focused on implementing technology that provides energy and
cost saving solutions for customers while increasing contractors'
productivity in the field. These market trends are prevalent now
more than ever, as the Department of Energy encourages retailers
to start implementing energy efficient technologies in order to
enhance energy sustainability and productivity in the
marketplace.
Ultimately, the use of advanced technology to meet this focus is
what will separate the leaders from the followers in the retail and
HVAC industries.
