NEW DELHI, Feb 23:

In a significant move, India has been invited to the inaugural plena-ry of the foreign ministers' conclave of the OIC, a powerful grouping ofMuslim majority nations, and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swarajwill attend it in Abu Dhabi next month as the 'guest of honour'.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called the invitation a"welcome recognition" of the presence of 185 million Muslims inIndia and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and ofIndia's contribution to the Islamic world.

Official sources said it was for the first time, India has beeninvited to an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meetingas guest of honour. The 46th Session of the OIC's Council ofForeign Ministers will be held in Abu Dhabi from March 1 to 2.

The invitation to India by the OIC comes at a time when Indiahas been mounting diplomatic offensive against Pakistan to iso-late it internationally following the Pulwama terror attack inwhich 40 CRPF personnel were martyred.

The OIC has usually been supportive of Pakistan and, oftensided with Islamabad on the Kashmir issue.

The MEA said Foreign Minister of United Arab EmiratesSheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan invited Swaraj as the 'guestof honour' to address the inaugural plenary and that India washappy to accept the invitation.

"We see this invitation as the desire of the enlightened leader-ship of the UAE to go beyond our rapidly growing close bilateralties and forge a true multifaceted partnership at the multilateraland international level," the MEA said in a release.

"We see this invitation as a milestone in our comprehensivestrategic partnership with the UAE. We also see this invitation asa welcome recognition of the presence of 185 million Muslims inIndia and of their contribution to its pluralistic ethos, and ofIndia's contribution to the Islamic world," it said.(PTI)

APPEALJoint Action Committee (General category), J&K fought for nearly 15 long

years in quest for equality, justice and rule of law by pleading within thepremises of the constitution of India against the illegal Reservation inPromotions extended to state of J&K. The Hon'ble High Court of J&Kscrapped the Reservation in Promotion Rules and Hon'ble Supreme Court ofIndia ordered "status quo”; denied any stay on the judgment of the Hon'bleHigh Court of J&K.

Inspite of the matter pending in the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the StateGovernment at the behest of the BJP leaders have moved an ordinance and got theassent of His Excellency The President of India FOR INTRODUCING THERESERVATION IN PROMOTIONS. This move has acted as a last nail in thecoffin of general category people and our legal and constitutional rights have beenmuzzled. We appeal the Hon'ble Governor to withhold the notification for issuingReservation in Promotion Rules for J&K State and allow the Rule of law to prevail andlet the Supreme Court adjudicate the impending matter. If this ordinance is imple-mented, the General Category people will lose hope in the political system and we
