Introduction
Writing on a chalkboard using ordinary chalks has been the norm in
classrooms and homes where learning takes place. There are also some
instances where chalk can be used to write messages on home or business
notice boards.
One of the drawbacks of using the chalk is the dust. The person writing ends
up with dust, which can cause allergies, and it is messy. The situation is even
worse when the time comes to erase the writing and there is more dust. There
is also a chance that the written information can be easily erased by mistake if
someone touches it. The other limitation that ordinary chalks provide is that
they are only suitable for use on chalkboards and other chalkboard painted
surfaces. The chalk's writing is also not smooth and it may become smudged
especially if someone touches it.
Let's not forget as well about how bothersome a piece of chalk can be on your
skin. Your skin can take in some bits of dust from the chalk just by touching it
for a second. This can get to be even worse if you are trying to write lots of
things on it.

The use of chalk markers changes all these because they do not emit dust
and they provide smooth writing surfaces that are appropriate for the intended
use. Erasing the writing is done using a wet cloth and these markers do not
provide any dust residue. The writing cannot be erased if touched by mistake
but you can use a wet cloth to wipe off the writings later on if necessary.
The chalk markers' usefulness extends beyond classrooms and homes
because they are also being used in businesses. This is due to their ability of
being used to write on different surfaces such as windows, mirrors, metals
and other non-porous surfaces. They also come in different colors including
neon colors and they have different types of tips such as chisel, bullet and
parallel. This makes them useful in creating different types of messages and
on various surfaces, something that the users have taken advantage of.
In businesses, chalk markers can be used to create attractive advertisements
and notices. At homes, they are useful in creating messages and drawings on
different surfaces including on mugs, refrigerators, labeling drawers or even
making a nice drawing on the window. Schools have taken up chalk markers
because of their hygienic nature and ease of use.
Chalk markers have changed the concept of chalks. If you are still wondering
what they are, they consist of liquid chalk that is used with a pen-like tube.
The chalk dries fast upon application on a surface and it is easy to wipe with a
wet cloth. The chalk markers are in various colors and therefore one of the
most important tools of an artist. They can also be used on different surfaces
based on the preferences that one might hold when getting them to work as
needed for any type of plan.
Despite their many benefits, chalk markers should be used with caution to
avoid situations where markings are made and they later fail to come out,
resulting to a damaged item or a wall with ghost writings. For instance,
markings made on the countertop of an expensive piece of furniture may fail
7 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
to come out, completely resulting in ghost writings despite all the attempts to
remove it. This may result in the furniture being disposed of or the countertop
being totally changed. Sometimes markings on chalkboards may fail to come
out and it may necessitate the need to do another paint job. It is therefore
important to know what the chalk markers are and the right way of using them
in order to reap their full benefits.
The users that want to take advantage of these appealing products should
also know the various types of chalk markers available to enable them to
choose the right ones depending on their needs. If stuck with stubborn chalk
marker writings, one should know how to remove them while learning how to
prevent a similar occurrence in the future.
The overall point about the chalk marker is that it is more than just a typical
piece of chalk. Rather, it is something that can be added quite well to all sorts
of surfaces and can be extremely versatile while also being rather easy to
use. It is not too hard to get the most out of any one of these fine units when
you are trying to get something created with ease. It's all about having
something special and enticing for your general needs as you are looking to
be creative.

What Are Chalk Markers?
So, just what is it about chalk markers that make them so special? Well, there
are many good things about these markers that deserve to be checked upon.
9 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Chalk markers look like other types of markers such as permanent markers or
dry erase markers. The difference is in the type of liquid they have that is
used in writing. Despite their name being related to chalk, the liquid is not
necessarily chalk. It consists of a paste that isquick drying, such that when a
marking or writing is made, the liquid dries immediately. The writing is semi-
permanent, which means that it is not something that can be easily wiped off
with a dry cloth or eraser but can still be erased using a wet cloth or sponge.
Therefore, chalk markers are writing implements that are used to make
writings and drawings that look like chalk when dry. They have also been
given names such as liquid markers, wet erase markers or paint markers.
This is due to their nature of using liquid in writing and requiring the use of a
wet cloth or sponge to erase the marks.
The mention of chalk brings in to mind the white colored chalk that you've
probably seen in schools among other spots. This creates an impression that
the chalk markers are also white. The same way chalk is available in different
colors, so are the chalk markers. However, the markers are more diverse in
terms of their colors and their writing is clearer than that of chalk.
They are available in different colorssuch as red, blue, orange, yellow, purple,
pink, white and green. They are also available in neon and fluorescent colors
that are bright and they can be used in designing artwork and they illuminate
when under a black light, on a LED board and at night. The neon colors can
be used in dark surfaces and they give their best looks when on a LED
flashing board or on a backlit surface. They can be used in a decorative way
for businesses or homes alike.
These chalk markers are recommended for use on non-porous materials such
as whiteboards, mirrors, windows, glass, metal, laminated papers and
plastics. This ensures that when the writing is made, it is easily wiped using a
10 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
wet cloth or rag without leaving ghost marks. The non-porous materials do not
have pores where the liquid can penetrate and make it difficult to remove.
If the chalk markers are applied on porous surfaces such as those painted
with chalkboard paint, the markings may not come out easily through the use
of a wet wipe. The porous surfaces contain pores that absorb the liquid during
writing, making it difficult for it to come out in the removal process. Sometimes
it can get to the point where you'd have to sand a surface just to get it treated.
The pens are available for use today can come in different tips including
bullet, parallel and chisel tips, each suitable for different purposes. Bullet and
parallel tips are suitable for general simple writing that is even throughout
without the need for varying the size such as of the menu or announcing an
evening band or any simple message. Chisel tips are suitable for medium
width to super fine writing and are suitable for artistic work where there is a
need for variation in the size of the writing. They can achieve fine lines as well
as medium and broad lines.
The tips are of different sizes ranging from mini, small, large and jumbo. Small
sized tips are for detailed work while the larger sized tips are suitable for large
markings such as those made on large notice boards that require less
detailed work. Mini tips range from 1 to 2 mm and they are suitable for small
writings on table card holders or cards. Small tips range from 6 to 7 mm, large
tips range from 11 to 12 mm and jumbo range from 7 to 15 mm and they are
suitable for use on large sign boards. One can choose the appropriate tip
depending on the desired type and the size of the writing.
Some chalk markers are rainproof and they can be used for writing outdoor
advertisements such as signs on the sidewalk. With this capability, the
messages that are written using the markers do not smudge when it rains and
they do not fade because the writings are resistant to ultra violet light. This is
one of the qualities of the chalk markers that have made it to be preferred by
11 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
homes and businesses when making their outdoor notices and
advertisements. Despite their long lasting capability, the good thing is that the
markings can be wiped off easily by the use of a damp cloth or sponge,
provided they are written on a non-porous surface.
These chalk markers are suitable for advertising in restaurants, promotional
activities, brainstorming and school projects among others. They are also
used on overhead transparencies. They are easy to write with and they
produce a smooth writing unlike the ordinary chalk. In the business set up
such as a restaurant, the markers can be used to write on menu boards or for
advertising. That brainstorming session can be made clearer by using the
chalk markers to write the ideas given.

What's more is that you do not have to hold your marker in any specific
manner. You can hold onto it in the same way that you'd hold onto a pen or
even a traditional piece of chalk. The smooth body of the marker will make it a
whole lot easier for you to hold onto it without feeling irritated in some way.
At home or at any other establishment, writing can be done on surfaces such
as on appliances, counter tops, glazed ceramic tiles, stainless steel, plastics,
metals and mirrors. The important thing is to ensure that the surface is non-
porous so it will be easy to clean off.

Types of Chalk Markers
One of the benefits of chalk markers are in their variety. They are of different
types and from varying manufacturers. However, they have some common
features in their categorization and therefore one way of categorizing them is
by using their properties. They are grouped into waterproof markers, wet wipe
markers and luminous markers.
These markers all have their own inherent features and qualities that make
them unique. Let's take a look at ease of these options.
Waterproof Markers
As the word says, these chalk markers are waterproof, which means that they
can withstand water without getting erased or smudged. Waterproof markers
are suitable for outdoor writings because they do not come out due to rain and
they do not fade due to their resistance to ultra violet light. This makes them
suitable for use on car windows, glass, steel, aluminum and plastic as long as
the surface is non-porous.
14 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
They can also be used on chalkboards especially if putting up a notice
outdoors such as in the garden. You will have to create a special cleaning
solution ready to wash them off. They will require the use of an ammonia-
based cleanser such as Windex with a pH of 10 and above so you can quickly
remove the writings. This means that it will be a little challenging removing the
writings using a piece of cloth that is dipped in water.
The sponge should be dipped in the ammonia cleanser and then used to wipe
the markings. This can work much better than if you use straight ammonia.
After all, a product that just uses an ammonia base will be diluted enough to
the point where it will not be harmful to your body as you are using it.
Some of the uses for waterproof markers are for creating store window signs,
sidewalk signs, A-frame signs, police markers for violations of parking or for
marking a disabled car, decorating the car or car windows, marking glass or
ceramics. They can also be used in creating arts and crafts, fast pitch signs,
home décor white boards, chalkboard art pieces, skateboard art, helmets,
computers, headphones, footwear canvas and fine art. You will have the full
right to do what you feel with the markers.
If one is recoating a surface with new spots, the markings made remain intact
and they will not lift. This allows for the use of different colors that are close
together without streaking or bleeding. The only requirement is to wait for the
first paint to dry before adding the next one in order to get good results. The
markers can also be used together with dry erase markers. During removal,
the dry erase markers are removed, leaving waterproof markers intact.
The waterproof chalk markers can also be used on porous surfaces such as
cloths, canvas or paper. However, in this case they leave a permanent
opaque mark with a matte finish. The chalk markers are available in various
tips of different sizes ranging from medium bullet to broad chisel and other big
tips.

Wet Wipe Markers
Wet-wipe chalk markers have markings that are removed using a damp
sponge or cloth. The markers are used to write on glass, blackboards, plastic,
stone and other surfaces that are not porous. Some of their uses are in
restaurant menus or on special boards. They are used on store signs, easy
removal arts and crafts, counter or bar top display tables, child artwork, chalk
board art, white board for applications that should be erased when dry, menu
boards, wedding and function message boards, kitchen menu boards, family
calendars and activity boards.
They are easy to remove using a wet cloth and do not require the use of
detergents such as ammonia base cleansers. The markers can also be used
on a dry erase boards provided the wiping be done using a wet cloth and not
a dry eraser. They are available in different tips of different sizes.
The simplicity of use with these markers makes them very popular among
different items to use when getting arts and crafts projects up and running.
They are also popular among parents as it will be easier for children to use
them and to create new things with them without worrying about the markers
leaving lots of annoying residues or other bothersome concerns that can
quickly get in the way.
They are not suitable for outdoor use because the writings can be smudged
and washed out by the rain. Of course, these markers are rather easy to use
with regards to erasing them because you need a wet cloth to make it work.
That's a big part of why you should avoid using these outside in spots where it
is rather easy for items to wear out at.
You may also want to watch for how often you use these. These tend to be a
little more watery in terms of their bodies. That is, they are going to end up
taking a little more time to dry up than other chalk markers. This might be a
16 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
hassle to those who want to try and get their items ready for use as quickly as
possible but it is not going to be too much of a burden when you think about it.
It is best to make sure you don't put your hand on any surface that you just
wrote something on when writing with this type of marker. While you can write
with it in the same manner as that of any other writing utensil, you should still
be rather careful with handling it just like what you'd use with anything else
that you have.
Luminous Markers
Perhaps you want to stick with something a little brighter when getting chalk
markers to work for you. You can always stick with a fine luminous marker for
when you're looking to get the most out of the stuff that you are trying to
create.
The luminous markers that you can find today are markers that are similar to
the wet wipe only in that the colors are fluorescent. They illuminate when
under a black light, on a LED board and at night. They are suitable for dark
surfaces and are at their best when on a LED flashing board or a menu board
that is back lit. Just like the wet wipes, the markings are removed using a
damp cloth or sponge.
In some surfaces, the markers can be removed by rubbing when using a soft
cloth. The markers are available in different sizes and can therefore write
messages that are big and bold. They tend to be watery as well just like with
the wet wipe markers but they are still going to be easy to handle if you are
just careful with them.
Some of their uses are on black light environments, table, counter or bar top
displays on black backgrounds, led flashing boards and chalk board art. They
are also suitable for blackboard chalk marker for applications that are to be
17 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
erased when dry, menu boards, wedding and function message boards,
nightclubs, hotels, restaurants and lounge displays.
The markings of the chalk markers can be easily changed. For instance, if
they are used for making a price list or a specials board in a hotel, price
changes or changes in the specials can be made by simply erasing the old
18 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
information using a wet or dry eraser depending on the surface and writing a
new message.
Luminous markers that do not have a waterproof element should not be used
outdoors due to coming off when rained on. Care should be taken when using
the markers around electronic devices that are energized. The Light Board or
the LED flashing should be unplugged before use and ink should be allowed
to dry.
The markers can also be used on menu boards and dry erase boards. They
can be easily removed using a fiber eraser or a soft cloth. If the markings
have just been applied and they need to be removed, they should be allowed
to dry for at least two minutes before removing. This is in order to prevent the
marks from smearing when being wiped. In case the marks do not come off
with the use of a soft cloth, then a wet cloth should be used.
Take a careful look at all options and choose one that is suitable for your
demands. The odds are there's one that will be perfect for whatever it is
you've got to do. Fortunately, it will not be too challenging for you to get
something to work as well as you might hope.

Word of Caution on Using Chalk
Markers
There have been some cases where after using chalk markers to write or
draw on a surface, the marks refuse to come out completely leaving ghost
writings. This could be after trying all the marker removal methods such as
wiping the surface using a cloth dipped in water to wiping with a cloth dipped
in an ammonia-based cleanser. One could have even tried scrubbing the
surface despite the dangers of damaging it or removing the paint together with
the writings.
It is therefore important to ensure that before making any markings on a
surface using the chalk markers, the surface is tested to make sure that the
markings can come out easily.
It is advisable that for ease of removal, chalk markers should be used on
surfaces that are not porous. A porous surface has pores or tiny holes. Some
of these holes may be invisible and one may have to conduct some tests on
the surface to determine if it is porous or not. Some of the porous surfaces
include chalkboards, fabric, paper, wood and ceramic tiles that have not been
sealed using glazing.
The problem with porous surfaces arises at the time of the removal of the
markings where some of the ink may be left on the surface. It may require
thorough cleaning for the ink to be removed completely, something that could
cause damage to the surface. The worst part about these surfaces is that
sometimes the stains can become permanent if they have settled in them for
far too long. This can be due to the stains having gotten far too deep into the
pores to the point where it would be next to impossible for some of these
pores to be cleared out as needed.
20 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
It is therefore advisable to use the chalk markers on surfaces that are not
porous such as:
Glass including mirrors and windows
Ceramics
Metals including jar lids
Sealed tiles including bathroom and kitchen tiles
Coated paper, for instance chalkboard paper
Plastic
Porcelain
Vinyl
Chrome
Varnished wood
Laminated countertops
Linoleum and any other surface that is not porous.
To be on the safe side, if not sure of the type of surface, test it by applying the
marker on a small part and then try removing it. Some surfaces are of great
value and writing with a chalk marker may end up damaging them.
Fortunately, there is an extensive variety of non-porous surfaces for you to
work with today. These surfaces should be safe to work with and will not
create any serious problems relating to keeping your work looking as good as
it can be.
In addition, you might want to check the side of your writing hand to see if it
looks fine after using something. People have a natural tendency for their
21 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
hands to touch the surfaces of whatever it is they are writing things on. It is
only natural for your hands to get in contact with the surface. It would be next
to impossible for you to try and stop doing this as it is just a habit.
However, you may want to check your hand and wash it off if you see that you
got any marker residue on your hand. It is not something that will stick on
there forever and it will not be toxic but it is still something that can be
bothersome and distracting. Just make sure you wash it off if you do get it on
your hands and it will be easier for you to get through your day.
You should at least be happy to know that this is not going to cause an
allergic reaction like with traditional chalk. It will be easy to manage when you
know how to make it work with care.

Benefit of Using Chalk Markers
The use of chalk markers is growing because people have realized that they
have more benefits than that of the ordinary chalks that you might see in most
spots. Despite being more expensive than the chalk materials that you are
normally used to, the benefits that the markers provide are clearly worth more
than the extra cost.
23 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Chalk markers provide people with some smooth writing surfaces that are not
smudgy unlike what is used with the regular chalk. This is because the
markers use tips for writing. One can choose the tip that is appropriate for the
writing because they come in different types and sizes.
The use of chalk markers also enables one to control the size of one's writing.
It also makes the drawings clean looking and crisp while making it easier to
read text especially if it has smaller font. On the other hand, ordinary chalks
come in a standard size and it is difficult to control the size of writing. The
chalk is easily smudged even when one is writing and it is difficult to make
small writings.
Chalk markers are not messy because they do not have the dust residue that
is common with ordinary chalks. To erase the markings requires the use of a
clean cloth or a sponge that is wet, making the written area easy to clean.
With the ordinary chalk, one has to be prepared for the dust when cleaning.
Wiping the ordinary chalk is made worse by the fact that one gets the dust
even on clothes and can get allergic reactions from the dust. This problem is
24 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
also compounded even further when you consider how your hands will be
covered with all that chalk dust. These are problems that will be avoided when
you have chalk markers.
The markers also have better results because their writings are bolder,
brighter and more appealing in comparison to what the ordinary chalk
provides. This aspect makes them suitable for writing in areas that need to be
attractive such as in the restaurant menus where they also need to be read
from a distance. They are also available in different colors such as neon
colors and can therefore standout and be read from far.
While the ordinary chalk is abrasive and causes scratches on the board
damaging its appearance, chalk markers are gentle on the surface of the
board. The pen does not damage the chalkboards and therefore giving them a
longer life while maintaining their smoothness.
Writings made using the chalk markers do not erase easily. They can
therefore be used for labeling areas that require the writing to stay for longer
such as notice boards or writings that are not required to be erased often.
However, ordinary chalk writings are easily erased even by mistake making
them not suitable for making writings that are expected to remain in place for
long. It only takes a small bit of water or even some wind to blow some stuff
away. Chalk markers are much easier to work with instead.
The markers do not cause allergic reactions the way chalk dust and dry erase
markers that are made of alcohol do. They are also easy to carry around in
pockets without leaving marks, dusts or stains on the clothing. Of course, you
should still be certain that the ingredients used in any marker you have are
safe to use as sometimes it can be easy for some minute ingredients to cause
allergic reactions to some people. They will not be all that serious when
compared with what can happen with chalk dust bits but it's still a good idea to
at least look to see what might happen when getting something ready for use.
25 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Unlike chalk, which is used on chalkboards, the chalk markers can be used on
different surfaces that are not porous such as on mirrors, chalkboards,
whiteboards, windows, glass, metal laminated papers and plastics. This
diversity makes them useful for different purposes that can range from
decorating businesses during holidays, labeling items at home and on
brainstorming sessions in offices.
Removing chalk marker writings with a wet cloth does not leave streaks,
which makes the next written message as clear as the first one. The same
cannot be said of ordinary chalk, which leaves a lot of dust when erased. The
message written after erasing chalk is usually not as clear as the first due to
the dust remains on the erased surface. In fact, you might end up having lots
of streaks on the board as you wash it off. Chalk markers don't end up
struggling with this feature though.
What's more is that these chalk markers are all items that are not too hard for
you to maintain or manage. In fact, you can easily dispose of these markers
when they run out of juice. You may even be able to recycle some of their
materials but that depends on what the product is made out of.
Overall, chalk markers are truly amazing for you to explore. You might be
amazed at how well these can work for your artistry or general usage needs
when compared with traditional chalk.

How to Ensure a Chalkboard Cleans
After Using Chalk Markers
The most common place that people like to use chalk markers is on a
chalkboard. That's not much of a surprise when you think about it, what with
the name and all.
But just imagine what can come about when you use chalk markers instead of
traditional chalk on such a surface. Wait until they try to clean the markings
and they get shocked when the markers do not come off. The reason behind
this is that the chalkboard is porous because the paint that is used to make
the board is porous. That is, there are plenty of pores that are going to keep

When writing on the chalkboard, the pores hold some liquid chalk and some
of it remains when the surface is wiped, resulting to a board that is not clear of
the chalk marks.
This can especially be bothersome with some items that have stayed on the
surface for a while. In many cases it might take a lot of effort to actually clean
off the stuff that has been stuck on the surface for days. This is because the
surface will have dried up to the point where whatever you have has been
reinforced onto the surface. This will make it very hard for you to actually get
your stuff cleaned off as well as you might have hoped you could get it to be.
However, not all is lost because there is a way to get around that and still use
the chalk markers on the chalkboard without the risk of being left with writings
even after wiping or cleaning. The secret to this success is to season the
chalkboard.
To start the process, make sure that the chalkboard paint stays for two or
three days after painting for it to dry and be ready for seasoning. The paint
needs to dry so it will not smear and become rather difficult to handle when
you are trying to erase it.
To season, rub the ordinary chalk on the chalkboard to cover it completely.
Wipe the board using a chalkboard eraser or a piece of cloth. The board can
now be written using a chalk marker and be easily cleaned using a wet cloth
without leaving some marks.
Alternatively, if the chalk marks are still stubborn, the seasoned chalkboard
can be cleaned using the Magic Eraser pads from Mr. Clean. These pads
have become rather popular in recent time.
These pads may be used by rubbing them on the board while applying force.
This shows that as long as the chalkboard is seasoned, the writings using the
28 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
chalk markers can be cleaned easily using a wet cloth. It can also be cleaned
by using Magic Eraser pads while applying force.
Another way of cleaning the marks is by dipping a clean cloth in an ammonia-
based solution such as Windex. The cloth should then be used to wipe the
chalkboard clean. Be careful when using ammonia-based products as they
can still let off some bothersome odors. They may not be as dangerous as
what you'd get out of straight ammonia but it helps to at least keep your space
circulated the right way with air flowing properly just to ensure that nothing
wrong will come about when using this stuff.
It is important to note that before writing on the chalkboard, a test should be
conducted first to ensure that the methods of cleaning explained above could
clean it. Season a small part of the board and use a wet cloth or Magic Eraser
to wipe the chalk markers writings. This will prevent the chalkboard from being
ruined in case it cannot be cleaned using the above methods.
You can always stick with a small corner of the board to see that the process
works. Any small corner that is not easily visible should be tested first to at
least keep any messes from being all that serious. Make sure the test also
works specifically on the particular type of chalk surface that you actually want
to clean off.
Also, you should keep any spot that you use cleaning items in as well-
ventilated as possible. While you might end up having something that is
effective for use, sometimes the odors that come from what you are using
might be bothersome and hard to handle. You need to be rather careful by
keeping windows open or fans going to ensure that whatever you hold can be
fixed as well as possible.
Granted, the items that you can use in the cleaning process are going to be a
whole lot safer than some of the other items that you could be using. Still, it is
29 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
best to at least be careful when getting your stuff cleaned off so you don't get
sick from the stuff that is supposed to help you out.
Be rather careful when using the material on your own as well. While it is not
too hard for you to create something that is strong and sturdy for whatever
you might hold, you might want to take a careful look at the ways how you are
writing something onto a board, so it will not be too hard for you to get your
writing plans to really stand out as well as needed.

How to Clean Chalk Marker Writings
From a Chalkboard
Cleaning off the chalk marker writings and marks, especially for bright colored
markers that have high pigment content, can be a bit difficult. This will require
the use of a clean rag and a solution such as Windex.
The key for this process is to ensure that your chalkboard will look clear and
free from smears and all those other annoying effects that can come about as
a result of not being able to clean it off the right way.
If the markers are used on a painted chalkboard then sometimes it may be
difficult to clean. It is therefore important to ensure that you follow the
instructions of the markers manufacturer to avoid cleaning problems. Most
manufacturers recommend using the pens on a non-porous surface.
It is also advisable that before using a marker on a painted surface that it
should be tested on a small spot in order to determine if there will be cleaning
problems. This should prevent future problems associated with chalk marker
markings failing to come out when cleaned or leaving a residue. Some
cleaning efforts even end up destroying the chalkboard paint.
To clean a chalkboard, the following items are needed to make the process
run as effectively as it can.
Lint-free rag or cloth
Water
Cleanser that is ammonia based
31 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Melamine sponge
Felt chalkboard eraser
Oversized chalk crayon
These items can be used to help with taking care of your surface and will be
gentle on the entire space. More importantly, they will help with making sure
residues are kept off. This is especially the case with the lint-free cloth and the
melamine sponge as they are not going to be likely to leave any fibers or
other annoying bits of residue all over the place after you use them.
All of these items should be rather easy to find at a typical art supply store
although some department stores and drugstores will easily have them for
sale as well.
Examine the chalk marker to determine the kind of chalk ink it has. Naturally,
you can try and look for any chalk markers in the area to get an idea of just
what was used in the first place.
Some chalk markers can be wiped off using clean water while other markers
require the use of a cleanser that is made with ammonia as a key ingredient.
In case you cannot determine the ink that is in the marker then you should try
first to remove the markings with water. If it fails then you can use the other
methods.
Take a clean lint free piece of cloth and wet it. Wring it out to ensure that it is
only damp and not drenched. Remove the marks on the board by wiping it
using the wet rag.
In case the pen marks do not come out with a wet rag then you should use
the ammonia-based cleanser such as Windex or a glass surface cleaner.
Dampen the lint-free rag using the cleanser and use it to wipe the chalkboard.
32 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
If the markings are stubborn to the water and the ammonia cleanser, use a
melamine sponge and ensure that you apply gentle pressure to prevent
removing the chalkboard's paint. Melamine is known to easily take in some of
the paint if you use it too much.
Once the chalkboard is clean, it is important to season it to prepare it for the
next writing. This is by coating the chalkboard with ordinary chalk and then
erasing the chalk using a lint free rag or a felt chalkboard eraser.
You need to keep it seasoned properly as failing to do this will cause the
board to develop a glaze of sorts. This glaze will be made with the chalk dust
that is already in your spot.
This process will not only work well to keep your chalkboard cleaned off but it
will also keep you from having to take dramatic measures after a while.
Some people end up having to paint their chalkboard walls because they
cannot remove some old chalk pen materials, for instance. This can be
bothersome because it may entail many coats of paint and a rather
painstaking process entailing extremely specific instructions for adding it.
Of course, the process of adding paint is nothing more than a last resort in the
event that the chalk pen or other items on the surface cannot be removed. If
you use the process listed in this chapter then it should be easier for you to
get the chalk markers that you are using to be cleared off of your surface
without risking problems from residues or other marks.

Erasing the Chalk Markers
Due to how these items are thick and dense in nature, chalk markers are not
easily erasable, especially if they are used on porous surfaces. In as much as
this is an advantage for uses that do not require to be easily erased, it may
pose a challenge. While using them on non-porous surfaces such as mirrors,
glass and ceramic tiles, the chalk marks can be erased by wiping them using
a damp cloth.
For porous surfaces such as a painted chalkboard, it may be difficult to erase
and may require the use of hard detergents such as the Mr. Clean Magic
Eraser or acetone. However, using these methods may not be suitable for a
34 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
painted chalkboard because they may affect the paint job. The detergents can
be used safely on a chalkboard with vinyl surfaces because it is non-porous.
Using the Magic Eraser
One solution that may work particularly well when it comes to erasing a chalk
marker comes from the use of the Magic Eraser that was just mentioned a few
bits ago. This is a sensible material to have provided that you know how to
work with it.
First, you have to make sure that the Magic Eraser product is dampened
properly. Make sure it is wet but do squeeze out some parts of it before
applying it to the board. This is to ensure that the unit will not be all that
strong. If the eraser product is too wet then it will be far too strong and
therefore likely to wear out.
After that, you can gently use it on the surface that you want to clean off. Do
not press down on the material. Just allow it to naturally move over the board
and then allow it to dry off. If you keep it comfortable without being far too wet
then it will be easy for the spot to be cleaned off without worrying about extra
stains getting in the way.
Using Acetone and Alcohol
Acetone can be beneficial and you can use it in the same manner as the
Magic Eraser. You just have to add acetone and a small bit of isopropyl
alcohol together.
It helps to understand what these ingredients are all about first. Acetone is a
component that is typically used as a nail polish remover. However, it is also
known to help get rid of permanent marker stains. This compound is known to
be a helpful solvent that can go through many tough stains and can quickly
remove adhesives or other items that have been added onto surfaces.
35 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Naturally, you could find acetone in a typical nail polish remover. However, it
is often best to stick with a generic type of acetone compound instead of just
sticking with one that is only good for nail polish needs. Granted, the nail
polish remover can typically work but it helps to stick with a pure acetone
material just to be certain that you've got something that you know will work.
36 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Isopropyl alcohol can also be added to the process. This is often added to
help with cleaning difficult surfaces. It can be used with acetone to help
remove old surface stains.
The most important thing to know about isopropyl alcohol is that it is the key
ingredient that is found in rubbing alcohol. However, you might want to stick
with pure isopropyl alcohol for this process as rubbing alcohol will typically
consist of 70% isopropyl with the rest of it being distilled water to dilute the
contents for use on human skin.
Be careful when using acetone and isopropyl alcohol though. You need to add
only a few drops of the alcohol and then a few drops of the acetone to a
sponge so you can get a good surface ready.
The material can be rubbed in a circular motion to get it to move in well. You
might need a second application but in most cases one will be enough.
Remember to test a small corner spot of the writing space no matter what
method you use. This is to ensure that you are using the right solution and
that whatever you have has been mixed with care. Failing to do this can
cause you to be at risk of your surface wearing out prematurely.
Also, wear protective materials on your hands if necessary. While the
materials are not going to be dangerous, it is best to at least have some
protective gloves on just to keep your hands from becoming irritated as a
result of using the process in general. This is also to keep you from bringing
any odors around. Not all components are going to hurt your skin but it never
hurts to be prevented.
This routine should help you out quite well with getting your surface taken
care of. You can get your chalk surface cleaned off with care to ensure that
you can use it again for whatever it is you might want to create.
37 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Watch what you want to do when getting anything erased. Make sure you test
whatever you are using first and don't bother adding anything until you know
for certain if whatever it is you have can be used the right way in the overall
treatment process. This can really add a good sense of control to whatever
you hold with care.

How to Choose the Right Chalk
Marker
Chalk markers are used for a variety of purposes. The uses range from
advertising in businesses to leaving messages at home and in designing
images. This means that each use requires the use of different chalk markers.
For instance, if a business needs a holiday drawing and message written on
its windows, a marker with a chisel shaped tip is more appropriate to enable
fine drawing and writing. A plain message can be written using a marker with
a bullet or parallel shaped tip.

How Is the Handle?
The handle on a chalk marker is not something that many people think about
but it's a key point that is worth taking a closer look at. If you don't have a
good handle to work with then it will be rather hard for you to get whatever
you want to use to work right.
You need to look and see that the handle on the marker is designed to be
comfortable and easy to grip. Some models might come with soft pads on
their bodies to make them easier to grip. Others will have a few series of
curves that will fit perfectly in your hand so you will not lose grip of whatever
you are using. This should work well for your handling needs if you are just
careful with it.
If you have a good handle for what you have then you will have the best
possible grip. You'll also feel like you actually want to use the pen as it will not
feel all that irritating or hard for you to handle when used with care.
Tips Are Important
The first step in choosing the right chalk marker is in determining your needs.
Decide for what purpose you want to use the pen. This will play a role in
knowing the type of pen to use in terms of the design and the size of the tip.
The most common chalk markers tips are bullets, parallel and chisel. These
tips are different in terms of how they are shaped and can influence the
overall appearance of whatever it is you want to create.
The tip material that you have to work with should also be put into
consideration. Many metal tips are used on a number of different markers.
Metal tips are popular in that they will create thin lines that are consistent with
one another. They will work particularly well for lettering use.
Meanwhile, a felt tip or brush tip may be used in some spots. These tips are
going to be a little thicker and bolder. Also, the lines may vary in terms of how
40 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
straight they are. This depends on how much pressure you might add onto
these items.
Check the Line Width
You also have to look at how wide the line on your unit is. The line width refer
to how thick the materials will be as you write them out.
If you have a thinner line width then you should use that for something that is
intended to have a few extra details added to it. Meanwhile, you can always
use something a whole lot thicker if you've got the need to write something
that is supposed to be visible from a good distance. This is especially if you
have something like a marketing board that needs to be easily visible from a
good distance.
A thicker unit will work well for larger boards as well. This can be perfect if you
are trying to get a big word added onto a massive board that might require a
little extra space for display needs.
Look At the Colors and Surfaces
Decide on the pen colors to use. This will depend on the message you want to
put across. For simple writing on a chalkboard, vinyl board or any other
41 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
surface, white or the other ordinary colors can be used. For messages that
require the need to be decorated, luminous pens can be used.
You also have to take a careful look at the surface that you are using the pen
on. In some cases the surface is going to make it to where the ink pen will be
more or less effective. This is particularly the case when you are trying to use
white ink.
Sometimes you might find that white ink is the best option for you to work
with. This is because white ink is often best with very specific types of
surfaces.
In particular, white ink works best on non-porous surfaces. It works wonders
on glass and plastic spots.
Also, smooth matte paper and glossy paper surfaces are great for white
markers. White ink tends to work its best on these paper surfaces where the
ink can easily stick around and not be at risk of smearing.
Be careful when choosing a good marker so it will be easier for you to get the
most out of whatever you've got to use. If you choose something with care
then it should not be all that hard for you to get the most out of whatever you
hold.

Tips on How to Use the Chalk
Markers Efficiently
To get the best results out of any product, there is need to use it well. The
same case applies to the use of chalk markers. Efficient use ensures that the
markers last longer. Their ability to produce smooth writing without smearing
and to be used on different surfaces makes the markers a favorite for many.
However, to get the best results, they should be used properly.
Activate It Right
A chalk marker needs to be activated to write by pressing its tip on a piece of
paper. Push the marker down until the tip is pulled in to the marker. This
43 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
should be done severally until the tip has ink saturation and it is brightly
colored.
Writing with chalk markers requires making of large sweeping motions with
letters being at least one inch tall and with a simple shape. Smaller letters
should be made using markers with 6 mm tips while eye-catching writings and
headings should be made using markers with 8 to 10 mm tips.
The intensity of how hard you're going to activate it on will vary based on how
thick it is. You will have to use a little more effort if you have a thinner tip as it
will take a little bit of extra time for the ink components to come out as
demanded.
Some units might ask you to shake them as well. This is to allow the liquid
inside a marker to be properly shaken with care and to ensure that you don't
have more stuff coming out of it than necessary. Not every marker is like this
though.
In addition, some markers will come with soft squeezable bits on their shafts.
These bits can be pressed as a means of forcing some of the liquid inside the
pen to move closer to the tip. This can be useful in many cases but be aware
that sometimes the pen might be harder for you to use in this form. Be careful
when using it and you will find that it is not going to be all that challenging for
you to get the marker to work for your demands.
Blending Colors
To create color pictures with a blend of colors, start by drawing an outline with
6 mm tipped markers. To add the shading, use markers with 15 mm tips and
of darker colors. Ensure that you work quickly to ensure that the ink is wet so
that the colors can mix. The rest of the picture should be filled with lighter
colors using 15 mm markers. To blend light colors with the dark ones, use the
tips of lighter colored markers.
44 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
To ensure that the ink does not create blotching or puddles, keep the wrist
straight when drawing. It would be bad to have a well-drawn picture that has
blotches.
Also, if you are going to use many colors but you don't want them to blend too
much then you might have to wait for a short bit of time to allow the first
marker that you used to dry. It only tends a few minutes for the marker to dry
after applying it. You should not try to dab it with a cloth or anything else just
to make it dry quickly as doing that will make it easier for you to accidentally
smear something all over a spot.
Storage Tips
You must be careful when you are storing your markers so they will be
protected. First, you need to keep each marker separate from one another
without anything touching each other. This is to ensure that there's no risk of
cross-pollination between each marker.
Also, the caps on each individual pen must be secured as tightly as possible.
This is to keep the tips fresh and to prevent them from being exposed to too
much air. Excess air exposure can cause the tip to wear out after a while.
The markers should be stored flat so that the tip can stay moist. It must be
stored in an appropriately horizontal pattern so it will not cause the ink to
move to one end of the pen. If the ink moves to one end then the ink will
either have a hard time with coming out or it will flood out from the pen tip as
you start to use it.
If the nib dries due to the continuous use of the marker then press the tip on a
paper for few seconds so that the marker can start working again.
There are no real specifics as to what temperatures your pens should be
stored in either. Still, it is best to keep them in a room temperature setting just
to keep their contents from either congealing together or possibly evaporating.
45 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
The problem with storing chalk markers in temperature extremes – and this is
a consistent point with so many other writing utensils – is that their bodies can
be impacted in so many ways. Sometimes your markers might become weak
while the handles might be difficult to bear with, what with all that hot or cold
air getting in the way. You are better off storing your chalk markers in climate-
controlled areas of your property just to be on the safe side of things.
Check the Writing Surface
You may also want to take a look at the overall surface that you want to write
on and compare it with the color of the chalk marker that you have to work
with. Make sure you stick with something that you know will fit in well and will
look as nice as possible. Don't use one color that is too consistent with the
color that you are going to write something on, for instance. Be careful so it
will not be too hard to see what you are writing.

Creative Use Ideas
Due to their ease of use and the smooth writing that you can get out of such
items, chalk markers can be used in many creative ways. Some of them
include creating a grocery list in the kitchen, writing messages for your loved
ones in different places, labeling items in the home and so much more.
Leaving Messages
Love needs to be rekindled every now and then and there is no better way
than leaving a surprise love message. It does not need to be on a chalkboard
because a mug, mirror or a window can also serve the purpose. Other times a
reminder message can be all that is needed to ensure a task is done.
In addition, you can leave messages with practically any kind of pen that you
want to use. You can use a thin or thick pen and it will still be good as you can
easily get your message out as demanded.
47 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Grocery List
Stickers in the home may not be enough to track the required groceries due to
their small size. There may be need for a larger surface that can be written
and rewritten and probably be moved according to need. A surface can be
painted in the kitchen or a vinyl decal used to write the list of groceries.
The good thing about using a vinyl decal is the ease of moving it from one
place on the wall to another. You could even take it off of the wall and bring it
with you to the store.
It is also suitable for use with chalk markers because its surface is not porous
and therefore can be wiped easily when changing the grocery list. If there is
no time to copy the list then taking a picture with your phone can serve the
purpose. Of course, you can choose to carry the list with you if it is compact
and easy to transport. Be careful when handling it though so you make sure
that it is not as risk of being erased in some way.
Writing On Furniture
Some furniture pieces can be written on with the use of liquid chalk, especially
if their surfaces are not porous. For instance, the door of the refrigerator can
serve as a place for the grocery list, for writing reminder notes or even love
messages. A dresser can also be labeled to make it easy to find items.
Just make sure that it has not been painted with chalk paint so you can
prevent the problem of the markings failing to be wiped. Vinyl may be used on
the surface that needs to be written especially if the surface of the dresser is
porous.
Vinyl decals can be used to create surfaces that can be written on using chalk
markers to take advantage of their non-porous nature and inexpensiveness.
Some vinyl made products such as artworks can be used to make the home
beautiful as well as for writing those surprise messages.
48 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Be rather careful when using a marker on any piece of furniture. Remember
that fine sofas and other soft items are not appropriate for marker use.
Planning of Your Daily Menu
Planning meals can be a hectic task, especially if there is no daily menu in
place. Come the evening and one has no idea what is going to be eaten. This
can be made easier by using a meal planner for each day.
Every day meals can be planned and posted on a convenient spot in the
morning or in the evening. This way, everyone will have an idea of what is to
be eaten and can even prepare it beforehand. Chalk markers can now solve
the question of what to use to write provided there is a friendly surface that is
not porous. One can even make a meal plan board using vinyl.
The best part of this is that you can not only prepare your day ahead of time
and know what you want to do with it but you won't have to worry about
people hassling you by asking you what's for dinner. You can just get all that
information up on a good menu and people will then know right away just
what's up for the evening.
In the case of using a chalkboard, it should be tested first to ensure that the
markings could be wiped. A porous chalkboard can turn messy especially
since the meal plan may require being wiped every day to give way for
another days plan.

Labeling Items In the Kitchen
Chalk markers can come in handy to help in identifying what is in the kitchen.
Most container lids are made from plastic or metal which makes them friendly
to chalk markers. Labels can also be put on the jars and be written using
chalk markers.
Many of these labels can be easily affixed onto your jars or other containers.
In fact, some of these may be designed with flexible bodies that are fully
curved.
Children's Creativity
Children are creative by nature and a good way for them to practice is by
using chalk markers. Provide the children with somewhere in the house where
they can express their creativity such as a board made of vinyl, a window or
another non porous surface that can be wiped easily, and watch what they
come up with.
50 Copyright © 2015 ColoreArt.com All rights reserved.
Party Ideas
Chalk markers can come in handy in parties to label the different item that you
have to use. Sometimes one does not know the type of food on a plate, for
instance. The food can be placed on a labeled mat to give people an idea of
what's being served. Just make sure that the mat is chalk marker friendly.
This way, people will not end up eating food that they are allergic to or can
cause indigestion.
Halloween Ideas
Painting a pumpkin with chalkboard paint and using chalk markers can help in
creating the scary Halloween pumpkin and will easily contribute in having fun.
Considering that the pumpkin is disposable, there is no need to worry about
removing the markings and writings on the paint. Of course, you should be
careful when drawing on it so you don't end up making errors.
Naturally, this listing is just a brief look at all the things that you can do with
chalk markers. There are far too many other things to list here but it is all
proof as to how impressive such markers can be. These markers can really
work well in your home or office with practically everything that you want to do
in a particular spot.

Users and Uses of Chalk Markers
The chalk markers that you've got to work with are good for attention seeking
messages, especially the ones that require capturing the attention of those
passing by and of customers who would come in anyway.
The messages should be visually attractive to entice customers to purchase
products or to portray important information. The chalk markers that you have
will allow for the easy creation of these messages while also making it easy to
erase the messages using a damp cloth to create new ones. You would
certainly have to use a damp cloth to wipe it off. After all, written messages
can easily stick around longer without wearing out.
The markers that you've got to choose from can come in different colors,
types and styles and therefore one can choose the ones that meet that

person's needs. Some of the users of these markers are businesses such as
hotels, cafes, restaurants, pubs, exhibition halls, transit stations and retail
stores among others. What the users need to do is to find the chalk markers
that fit their needs.
The big thing about chalk markers today is that they can be used by an
extensive variety of different people. Practically any kind of business could
use these markers but they can also work in a home just as well.
For instance, in the case of a hotel, the markers can be used to write on the
menu board or on posters advertising various meals. A business can use a
pavement sign to advertise, which is a much cheaper way. In case there is
need to change the message, all that is required is a damp cloth and the pens
to write the new message.
Nightclubs and trendy bars can use chalk markers with fluorescent colors due
to their spectacular look when they are brightened using LEDs. The shop
windowpane can serve as the canvas where the chalk markers are used to
advertise offers and sales. These writings can be removed easily when they
are no longer needed.
The markers can come in different colors, a feature that makes them suitable
for creating eye-catching messages. Some of the colors include red, orange,
blue, yellow, purple, pink, white and green. If these are paired with a
background that allows the colors to be a little more visible then they will be
even better for use.
The pens are also available in different tips. Some of them include bullet,
parallel and chisel tips. Bullet tips are suitable for simple writings such as of
the menu or announcing an evening band or any simple message. This large
writing should be visible from a distance and therefore should have heavy
lettering. To produce work that is more artistic, there is need to use a

combination of pen types. Chisel tipped markers enables for stylish writing
and good lettering.
At home, the chalks can come in handy for labeling the closet in a room
belonging to a child. The writings do not erase easily when touched, neither
are they permanent that they cannot be changed.
Car dealers can use these chalk markers as well. Many of these car dealers
will end up using chalk markers on top of the windshields of the cars that they
have for sale. They can use them as a means of explaining things like the
special offers and prices that are available for certain cars. These markers
can easily be washed off of windshields so it will be easy for anyone to see
out of a car during a test drive. It's an amazingly convenient and easy to
handle use of a chalk marker for anyone to explore.
It's clear that you can use chalk markers in many spots whether you need to
use them in the home or you've got a business that you feel could benefit from
these markers. Either way, you should think about what uses you might have
for these pens so you can use them the right way and prepare quite well for
the stuff that you want to do in a space.

What To Think About When Using
Chalk Markers
Chalk markers are available in an extensive variety of forms these days. You
might be surprised at what you can get these days when choosing chalk
markers for all of your needs.
However, you might want to compare markers with one another as to how you
plan on using them. You need to see that you are choosing markers that you
know are great to find.
What Colors Do You Want?
There are loads of different colors for people to choose from when it comes to
finding chalk markers. Some markers are known for being rather fluorescent
in appearance while still managing chalk textures to make them look as
though they were real chalk bits.
Meanwhile, others may just feature simple white tones to them. These can
make anything look like any ordinary chalk material when used right.
In fact, you might find that some markers are sold in packs that are prepared
together with a series of similar colors in mind. You might want to look around
and think about what colors you absolutely want to use though. This is so it
will be easier for you to find markers that are actually relevant and suitable for
the design needs that you may hold.
How Often Will You Use Them?
A good thing about chalk markers is that they are going to create consistent
looks that are easily visible and beautiful on the eyes. However, these chalk
markers are going to run out of steam just like with any other writing utensil.

In most cases the writings that you will get out of a chalk marker that is about
to run out of juice will become weaker. You can still write with something but
there are times when the marker might start to feel dry and difficult to write
with. It will not scratch or irritate any surfaces that you are writing on but it can
still be a real hassle to any spot that you want to work with if you are not
careful enough with getting it to work as required.
You need to be careful with regards to how often you plan on using your
markers. Make sure you buy your markers based on how often people are
going to be using them, where you are and if any special considerations have
to be met when it comes to getting them to work in some special way.
You must see that the markers you have as strong enough to where you can
write with them for a while and that nothing wrong will come about from what
you plan on using. It is true that there's no way how a company can tell you
how long a marker can last for as everyone has their own special standards
for how they plan on using their markers. Still, you should be rather careful
when using those markers as they can easily run out if you use them too
often. Plan your use carefully and make sure you know what to do when
finding new markers when your old ones run out of steam.
Who's Going to Use Them?
Anyone can use chalk markers these days. You might want to talk with
anyone that wants to use a chalk marker about how they work, how they can
be maintained and what to do in the event that mistakes are made while using
one.
Look to see how old the person who wants to use chalk markers is as well.
Children might end up having a much easier time with chalk markers as they
are not all that messy and are easy to hold.

If you have children that are going to use these markers then you should
supervise them just to be safe. All children should be supervised when they
are working with chalk markers so they will use them properly. You don't want
kids to write stuff all over themselves or to get the chalk markers all around
different surfaces that you don't want them to draw on, for instance.
What Surfaces Will You Write On?
You can use many chalk markers on harder non-porous surfaces or you can
use them on surfaces that might be a little heavier and may be at risk of
leaving behind assorted fragments. You must check your surfaces to see that
you are comfortable with adding chalk markers to them.
Always review the surfaces you are going to write things on and see how well
they can stack up to the markers that you want to use. Check on how well
they can be added and make sure you only add these markers onto surfaces
that you know are easy to work with. It will be easier for you to get a good
project to work out right if you just stick with using your markers on surfaces
that you know will be receptive to your markers and will be easier to maintain
down the line.
Does Anyone Have Allergies?
A great thing about many of these markers is that they are totally dustless and
are not going to smear all that easily. Therefore, it should be easier for people
who have allergies to use these chalk markers. Still, the ingredients used in
chalk markers might trigger allergies in some people. As a result, you might
want to look around and see what's inside the markers you are using so you
will find units that are safe to have in a spot and will not trigger any reactions.
Fortunately, it will be rather difficult for many of today's chalk markers to
trigger such reactions. You might want to take a careful look at what is open
regardless of this.

Remember that your chalk markers can be very intriguing and interesting. You
must make sure that these are used right no matter who's going to use them.

Buying Chalk Markers
Now that you get the picture as to how there are loads of different options for
you to explore when it comes to getting chalk markers, you can easily go
around to find different models that you know will be suitable and appropriate
for the requirements that you might have. However, you need to make sure
that you look for them in the right spots.
Buying chalk markers can be great to do but you should at least be careful
when doing so. You must make sure you only buy your markers when you
know what you want to get out of them.
There are many additional things that need to be explored when buying these
markers too. This chapter is all about what to watch for.
How's It Packaged?
You must make sure that any markers you buy are packaged properly. The
problem with some packing processes is that they may not be perfect every
single time. Sometimes a process can go awry and as a result can cause the
items you want to use to be packaged with haste.
For instance, the plastic wrapping may be off or the cap might be dislodged
while in transit. If any problem appears to have occurred with your markers
before unwrapping them then you should look for a proper replacement so
you can get models that are actually safe to use and have not been tampered
with or have lost some of their qualities.

Look For Good Pictures
It's always smart to look for pictures of whatever it is you want to buy. The
thing about markers is that they are often designed to where they will have
different looks to them and vibrant hues. You should look for any pictures of
your markers of interest to see that they match up with what you want to
utilize.

If you can see the colors in many lights then it will certainly help you to see
what you're getting into. Meanwhile, you might want to see how the grips work
and if the tips are to your liking.
Chalk markers, as we have described throughout this book, can be amazingly
varied in terms of what they have to offer to the user. Be sure you look
carefully when finding options that you want to buy and compare the pictures
to what you need.
It's especially good to see if you can get pictures of these markers in action
with an emphasis on how well the markers can work with a particular amount
of effort to get their messages up on any board. You might be surprised at
how effective some models can be,
How Much Do They Cost?
Of course, you do need to be aware of how much money you'd have to spend
on these chalk markers. Fortunately, it will not cost far too much money for
you to get such markers ready.
Individual chalk markers tend to go for about five dollars each. That is a good
value when you consider how long many of these chalk markers can work for.
Meanwhile, if you order a pack that includes several markers in one spot then
you will certainly get a better deal off of it. You can find packs that contain four
of these markers for about $15 to $20. This can include four of the same color
or four different colors that are arranged in a particular theme.
The cost per marker will certainly go down if you order a pack that includes a
higher number of individual markers. You can spend about $30 for a pack that
contains eight of these markers, for instance. All values will be different for
whatever you hold so make sure you check around to see what's open when
finding an option that you know will be appropriate for what you hold.

Every marker is different and the prices will vary as a result. Remember that
you don't always have to stick with the most high-end models out there but it
helps to at least compare what is open so you can find something that you
know will be great for your requirements.

How to Make Chalk Markers
The market has different brands of chalk markers and in different colors. The
markers enable the creation of messages and notices that are long lasting yet
not permanent. Their ease of use and gentle strokes makes a favorite of
many.
However, it is not necessary to buy the markers if one is interested in the
creative task of making them. This also provides an opportunity to create
unique colors for different design purposes instead of sticking to the colors
being offered in the market.
Items Required
You need to gather the right items in order to make chalk markers that you
can call your own. The following items are required; these typically include
some physical items as well as a few liquid compounds that can be easily
found at a typical art supply store.
Mortar & Pestle
Chalk
Mica pigment
Rubbing alcohol
Polysorbate 20
Glass bowl
Palm kernel oil
Marker tubes

Plunger for sink use
Many of these products can be easily found at a typical arts and crafts store.
Some items, particularly a sink plunger and rubbing alcohol, may be found at
a general department store or even a drugstore depending on where you are.
It should not take you all that much time to actually find all of these items for
your project.
Directions
With the use of a mortar and pestle, grind an ounce of white chalk to become
fine powder. Add the ground chalk into half an ounce of rubbing alcohol.
In the bowl with chalk and alcohol, add three drops of polysorbate 20 and five
drops of kernel oil. You can find the ingredients at hobby and craft supply
shops. Polysorbate 20 is a surfactant that is non-toxic and can work as a nice
emulsifier. Palm kernel oil is designed to create a thicker texture to whatever
you are trying to work with.
In the mixture, add mica pigment that is powdered and stir. Choose the color
that you desire in order to create a creamy version that is chalky.
Once the solution is well mixed, suck it using a plunger that is fine tipped and
introduce it into a chalk marker casing. The chalk marker is now ready for use.
The plunger that you use should not be far too large. In fact, a small plunger
that can be used for your sink will often be good enough for this project.
To obtain chalk markers of different colors, repeat the process by using your
preferred colors of mica pigment. This will result to markers of different colors
according the need. A mica pigment compound typically consists of a
powdery material but it should not be too hard for you to use if you mix it up
the right way.

You can choose from all sorts of different mica pigment colors in order to
create a unique chalk color that is especially appropriate for the needs you
hold. You may want to take a careful look at the pigments that you mix though
as the same color mixing rules should apply in the process of getting your
colors ready for use.
This process for creating chalk markers should not be too hard to work with.
Just use it properly and you will get some nice-looking markers that you know
will be appealing and attractive for your general use.

Chalk Markers are Replacing the
Ordinary Chalk Pieces in Teaching
It used to be that typical classrooms would use chalk and traditional
chalkboards. After all, the chalkboard has been known to be versatile and
easy to erase for when new lessons have to be taught. However, things are
changing as the classroom is evolving. Chalk markers can practically do the
same things as traditional pieces of chalk but with some different benefits to
go with them.
The benefits associated with chalk markers have resulted in teachers
preferring them to the ordinary chalk pieces that they have been used to
holding. The markers write smoothly, the information that is written on them
will last longer with no option of being wiped off by mistake and they do not
have dust that can cause allergies or skin drying after using something. They
are also in different colors, making it easy to decorate the writings and
drawings in bright colors.

These are not permanent markers, meaning that the writings can be wiped off
with a wet rag or cloth. This also ensures the writing does not fade or smudge
when touched. Their pen style makes it easy to write on chalkboards.
Teachers no longer need to deal with the dusty erasers that they have been
used to because all they need is a wet cloth to wipe the writing. The tight
fitting caps ensure that the ink does not dry out.
Whether a teacher in school or at home, the chalk markers have made writing
easier and less messy. Despite their higher price, the chalk markers have
more benefits than the ordinary chalk and can last long if properly cared for
and capped properly.
There have however been cases of erasing problems when writing is done on
the chalkboard. To prevent this, season the chalkboard by covering it with
chalk on well-cured chalkboard paint the way it has been explained on the
“tips for using chalk markers on a chalkboard”. The seasoned chalkboard will
be easy to wipe. To be on the safe side, it is important to test by writing on a
small part of the chalkboard to find out if it is easy to erase.
Of course, there is always that famous thought of a child having to write
something several times over and over on a chalkboard as a punishment for
something. Chalk markers can be used for this purpose but it is not always
something that is prevalent these days. Sometimes children are just told to
write that stuff down on paper instead but the chalk marker is still something
that can be conducive to getting lots of writing done at a given time.
If you are a teacher then you will certainly like what chalk markers can do for
you. These can be perfect for the classroom when everything is considered.

Conclusion
If there is one thing that we have certainly learned from this book, it is the fact
that chalk markers are clearly amazing for all to use. These markers are great
for use in many classrooms, offices, businesses and even in an assortment of
spots all around the home. These markers are truly different from what you
might expect to find in traditional chalk as well. It's gotten to the point where
the old chalk standard is being replaced by this great evolution in the field of
work.
Chalk markers work like traditional chalk pieces but they are instead designed
to be very easy to handle. They work well when writing things and can come
in a variety of forms ranging in their thickness levels, colors and so forth. In
fact, it is easy to write something that will not disappear all that easily but
whatever is done can still be clearly washed off after a while when the right
method for doing so is used.

It is not too hard to find an extensive variety of markers in many retail spots.
However, you must make sure you compare everything with care so you will
know what's around for your needs. You could even create your very own
marker if you use the right materials for the overall process. It is not as hard to
do this as you might think.
Remember, you can really do more with your writing or art needs if you use
chalk markers instead of traditional chalk. Think about the chalk marker as if it
were an evolution of sorts for chalk, in that it is a whole lot easier for you to
create some unique stuff with a nice marker.
The chalk marker is a very fascinating and useful type of product that you can
work with when it comes to getting your art projects managed or if you just
need something to use when writing things on a big board. It's a thrilling type
of product to have thanks to how amazingly versatile it is and how you can do
quite a number of useful things with such a product as this.
