All Saints' Day: is a celebration of all Christian
saints in many Roman Catholic, Anglican and
Protestant churches. In many western churches it
is annually held November 1 and in many eastern
churches it is celebrated on the first Sunday after
Pentecost. It is also known as All Hallows Tide,
All-Hallomas, or All Hallows' Day.
Diwali: is called the "Festival of Lights" and is
celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh
avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is
believed that on this day Rama returned to his
people after 14 years of exile during which he
fought and won a battle against the demons and
the demon king, Ravana. People lit their houses to
celebrate his victory over evil.
Remembrance Day: Marks the anniversary of the
official end of the World War I hostilities on
November 11, 1918.
National Child Day: Celebrated across Canada
since 1993 to commemorate the United Nations’
adoption of two documents centered on children’s
rights: the United Nations Declaration of the
Rights of the Child on November 20, 1959, and the
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the
Child on November 20, 1989.
Milad un Nabi: Many Muslims in Canada
celebrate the Prophet Muhammad's birth and life
or mourn his death on Eid Milad ul-Nabi (Mawlid,
Milad-un-Nabi). The date occurs during the
Islamic month of Rabi' al-awwal. Some Muslims
mark this occasion by fasting or with parades,
special prayers or conferences.
Canada History Week: Science, Creativity
and Innovation: Our Canadian Story learn
more about the people and events that
have shaped the great nation that we
know today. Canada is full of unique peo-
ple, places and events. Canada History
Week is a great time to discover them!
