The term _______ was coined in 1972 by Bhutan's fourth Dragon King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who opened Bhutan to the age of modernization after the demise of his father.

He used this phrase to signal his commitment to building an economy that would serve Bhutan's unique culture based on Buddhist spiritual values. At first offered as a casual, offhand remark, the concept was taken seriously, as the Centre for Bhutan Studies developed a sophisticated survey instrument to measure the Bhutanese population's general level of well-being.

Today, the government of Bhutan considers ______ a more credible index of national progress than the country’s GDP.

XY is an expression in the English language depicting a free choice in which only one option is offered. As a person may refuse to take that option, the choice is therefore between taking the option or not; ie "Take it or leave it".

According to a plaque underneath a painting of Xdonated to Cambridge Guildhall, X had an extensive stable of some 40 horses. This gave the appearance to his customers of having their choice of mounts when in fact there was only one choice: X required his customers to choose the horse in the stall closest to the door. This was to prevent the best horses always being chosen, which would have caused those horses to become overused.
