What’s Acid Rain
• "Acid rain" is a broad term referring to a mixture of wet and dry deposition (deposited material) from the atmosphere.
• Acid rain is caused when pollutants from vehicles business and factories combine with storm clouds in the sky .
• When these storm clouds precipitate in the form of rain, snow, hail or sleet the liquid released becomes acidic.
How does acid rain impact humans
• Acid rain looks, feels, and tastes just like clean rain. The harm to people from acid rain is not direct.
• The pollutants that cause acid rain—sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides—do the damage to human health.
• These gases interact in the atmosphere to form fine sulfate and nitrate particles. Many scientific studies have identified a relationship between elevated levels of fine particles and increased illness.
