Accent is onpilot season
Gigi Edgley will attend Supanova Picture: SUSAN BUGG
BRISBANE: Being an Aust-ralian actor in Hollywoodcan have its drawbacks. That’s why Gigi Edgley putson her best LA accent whenshe fronts directors and pro-ducers at auditions.
Edgley is back on the beatfor Hollywood’s pilot seasonnow she has finished hostingreality series Jim Henson’sCreature Shop Challenge.
The series follows 10 as-piring creature creators whohave to make and createmechanical characters andwhimsical beasts in a bid tojoin the famed puppet andmuppet workshop. There’salso $100,000 in prizemoney.
Edgley was called up tohost the series by Brian Hen-son, the chairman of the JimHenson Company and son ofthe late Jim Henson, whocreated The Muppets.
Brian Henson was co-creator of the sci-fi seriesFarscape, in which Edgleyappeared for four seasons, and called her manager inJanuary, inviting her to hostthe show.
Teaming up again withHenson has reignited Edg-ley’s love affair with the USand was the catalyst for hertrying out for pilot season, when the TV networks castfor new shows.
Edgley says she keeps pre-audition banter to a mini-mum and always converses,in or out of character, withan LA accent.
‘‘That’s because there arerumours around town that ifyou go in as an Australian, they won’t be able to focuson the scene because they’llbe listening to your accentand trying to pick flaws init,’’ she says.
‘‘I make very little talk inthe intro other than ques-tions about the character orthe script.’’
Edgley recently returnedto the US after she finishedfilming the biopic Carlottafor the Nine Network.
She will return to Austra-lia in April for two pop cul-ture conventions to chatwith fans of Farscape.
‘‘I was only going to be init for one episode and I stuckaround for five years.’’
Supanova Pop Culture Expo
is being held at the Gold Coast
Convention Centre on April 5
and 6 and at the Melbourne
ShowgroundonApril 12 and 13.
Staying alive rulesin Gameof Thrones
Finn Jones, not killed off yet
BRISBANE: Newly castGame Of Thrones actors aresearching for their charac-ter’s storylines on the web tosee how and when they dieon HBO’s bloodbath series.
Finn Jones, who has ap-peared in all three seasons ofGame Of Thrones, and is alsoin the fourth, as Loras Tyrell, says that it’s common fornew actors to Google theircharacter.
He said he was fortunateenough to land a role onGame Of Thrones, which re-turns on Foxtel’s Showcasechannel on April 7, that hashad longevity while othershave not.
‘‘Most actors who get caston the show are so keen tolearn as much as they can,the first thing they do is gostraight to the Song Of Iceand Fire page on Wikipedia,to see how long they are on it
for and what happens tothem,’’ Jones said.
Jones, along with fellowstar Gethin Anthony, whoplays Renly Baratheon, willbe at the Supanova Expo onthe Gold Coast on April 5-6and Melbourne April 12-13.
