CSM Messages written to z/OS Syslog
| 6
• RFE 138173 – This feature provides a way for z/OS customers to better track and automate responses
to CSM commands
• Only IWNRxxxx messages will be logged to the Syslog in response to session commands
• The feature is not enabled by default by can be enabled by adding the following property to Server
Properties
com.ibm.csm.zconsole.logging=none (default) | all | error
• When all is specified, Copy Services Manager logs all I, W, and E messages to the syslog.
• When error is specified, Copy Services Manager logs all W and E messages to the syslog.
• Example: To log all messages: com.ibm.csm.zconsole.logging=all
• Additional filtering is available to prevent too many messages going to the syslog
com.ibm.csm.zconsole.logging.includechildren=true | false (default)
• When set to true high level and children messages will get sent to the syslog
com.ibm.csm.zconsole.logging.excludedmsgs=<messages to exclude in comma-separated list>
• This allows customers to specify certain messages NOT to log to prevent unnecessary messages from overrunning the syslog

Additional Information on IWNR2320W message
| 7
• RFE 134640 - Additional information was requested in message IWNR2320W to
display SSIDs
• A customer has an SSID mismatch issue when establishing relationships between
DS8000 storage systems.
• The establish path failed with the following message
IWNR2320W [2019-06-15 13:48:09.762-0400] While trying to establish paths for
role pair H1-H2 between 2107.GNK11 logical subsystem 2 and 2107.HKD61 logical
subsystem 2, a hardware error occurred.
• The message indicated the LSSs but did not show the SSIDs and thus the customer
was not aware of the mismatch.
• Message will now display as follows
IWNR2320W : While trying to establish paths for role pair H1-H2 between
2107.GXZ91 logical subsystem c0 (SSID 65472) and 2107.GXZ91 logical subsystem
c2 (SSID 65474), a hardware error occurred.

Capabilities to help identify CSM session dependencies/intersections – View Volumes Panel
| 8
• RFE 132997 – This request had multiple suggestions
for how to improve showing dependencies and
intersections with session shared resources
• The View Volumes Panel has been improved to allow
better filtering, sorting, column moving, etc, that will
persist for a given user across browser logins
• The panel has also added a new Sessions column
which can be shown or hidden, that will display a list
of the sessions that the volume is a part of
• Example usage: A customer could query on all
volumes in a storage system and then filter on a
session name to see all the volumes on that storage
system in the session.

Capabilities to help identify CSM session dependencies/intersections – Storage Topology Overview
| 9
• RFE 132997 – This request had multiple suggestions for how to
improve showing dependencies and intersections well session shared
resources
• In CSM two new panels have been implemented to help show
Replication topology across all relationships defined on the CSM
server
• The Storage Topology Overview Panel shows the high level replication
between Sites/Storage Systems defined in CSM sessions
• The topology takes into account the current direction of the sessions
so that customers can see whether replication is flowing as planned
across one direction or both directions.
• The topology will display when there are sessions setup for cascaded
replication (MGM or 4 Site sessions)
• Each box to box topology also indicates the number of sessions using
that topology

Capabilities to help identify CSM session dependencies/intersections – Storage Topology Details
| 10
• The second panel implemented for the request is the Topology Details
panel
• Topology Details lets you drill into the topology at a sub system level,
such as at DS8000 LSS pairing level
• You can directly navigate to the Topology Details or you can drill into
the view for a given site to site pairing from the Topology Overview
panel
• Topology details can show you a number of things based on
dependencies/intersections
• Can show which sessions might have pairs on the same DS8000 LSS pairing
which could impact each other on a freeze event
• Can show which LSSs may be sharing the same DS8000 Global Mirror
consistency group name
• Can show whether a given LSS is a target to too many source replications
which would lead to a problem failing over the relationships

Allow recover on latest SafeGuarded Copy backup
| 11
• In previous releases of CSM the latest backup displayed a
warning message and was marked as non-recoverable until a
“new” backup was created in order to close the backup.
• With CSM 6.2.8, the latest backup will no longer be marked
with a warning nor be set as non recoverable
• When attempting to recover the latest backup on 6.2.8, CSM
will now automate the creation of a new backup, in order to
allow the recovery of the latest backup
• The warning prompt for recovering the latest backup,
however, will clearly indicate that in order to recover the
backup, CSM will create a new backup, thus consuming
additional backup space outside any scheduled backup
window. This “could” lead to older backups being rolled off the
hardware if not enough backup capacity was defined to
handle the creation of this new backup outside the automated
window

SafeGuarded Copy session improvements
| 12
• “Expire Backup On Auto Roll” Option - In CSM 6.2.7 the internal session default was changed to automatically delete a backup
across all volumes in the event the hardware automatically rolled it on one or more volumes. In CSM 6.2.8 the default will be changed back to no
longer do the delete across all volumes, but a new option is provided on the CSM GUI on the Backup Options tab for customers who wish to
enable this feature. The option helps free up space faster, however, removes the option for recovery on any volumes that still had the backup.
• Support for Persistent Recovery – A new option is now available on the H1-R1 Options tab that tells the hardware to persist the
recovery relationship so that it will remain on the hardware even if the background copy is complete. This feature is only available on DS8000
levels that support persistence.
• CSM performance enhancements during backup – In previous releases CSM had a default wait time that could be increased via
property to allow the cache scans to complete prior to creating the backup. In CSM 6.2.8, CSM will now query the volumes to determine when the
scans are complete. In addition, when a backup is determined successful, CSM will wait to query the hardware to determine if any backups have
rolled. This should help speed up the entire backup process and prevent extended long busy cases when the scans take longer than the default
time waited by CSM.
• New SNMP/email alerts for Safeguarded Copy– Two new alerts have been created. CSM will throw an SNMP/email alert when it detects
that a backup has rolled on the hardware or when a recovery relationship prevents the defined retention period from expiring a backup. Any
user registered for Unexpected Severe events will receive the alert.
• CSM defaults to protecting any backups or recovery relationships – the server defaults to protecting both the backups
and recovery relationships when individual volumes auto roll backups or end up in a failed state. For example, if a recovery relationship exists and
the background copy is still running for a backup that is attempting to be expired manually or by retention, the expire will fail.

Allows CSV export on given CSM GUI tables
| 13
• In 6.2.8 some of the CSM tables will support exporting the data in
the tables to a CSV file
• The visible column headers, order, sorting and filtering on the
table will be preserved by the export
• The export can help customers externally store history or track
aspects of the replication environment
• To export click the download icon in the table header
• The following tables allow export to CSV in CSM 6.2.8
Storage -> Volumes
Storage -> Topology Overview
Storage -> Topology Details

CSMCLI importcsv –action remove improvements
| 14
• In 6.2.7 CSM added the –action remove option to the importcsv
CSMCLI command allowing customers to use a csv file when
removing copy sets from a session via the CLI.
• A normal remove copy set command however has additional
options that needed to be added to the importcsv command for
full flexibility.
• CSM 6.2.8 added the following options on CSMCLI importcsv
• -force
• This option tells the session to remove the copy sets despite any hardware
errors
• -keeponhw
• This option tells the session to keep the base relationships on the hardware so
that they can be imported later without requiring a full copy

Log package improvements
| 15
• In 6.2.8 CSM added the following improvements to collected log packages
• Property files included- when creating a CSM log package the
properties files in the property directory will now be included in the
package allowing support to see what is set on the server
• Volume Relationship Summary file – a new volume-relationship-
summary.log file will be created when a log package is collected. Details
include the following
• Total Number volumes, Total Number volumes in sessions, Total Number volumes not in
sessions, Total Licensed Capacity (SRC RVUs replicated), Total Capacity of vols not in
sessions, Total Number of Sessions, Total Number of RC Source volumes, Total Number of RC
Target volumes, Total Number of RC Both Source and Target volumes, Total Number of PiT
Source volumes, Total Number of PiT Target volumes, Total Number of PiT Both Source and
Target volumes, Total Number of PiT off RC volumes, Total Capacity of RC Source volumes,
Total Capacity of RC Target volumes, Total Capacity of RC Both Source and Target volumes,
Total Capacity of PiT Source volumes, Total Capacity of PiT Target volumes, Total
Capacity of PiT Both Source and Target volumes, Total Capacity of PiT off RC volumes
• Add the following property to server properties and file will include specific volume
level details
• diagnostics.volrel.details=true
