George Mason University Partnership Initiative with the College of Science to enhance awareness and engagement in STEM professions.
Goal is to work with ACPS to build better pathways for students into STEM majors.
Students have opportunities to visit campus and work with and hear from current Mason faculty and students about emerging STEM fields like Data Science, Geo-Information Science, Forensic Science, Bioengineering, etc.

Student Requirements There are no academic requirements necessary for a student to apply to the STEM program. What are we looking for?
- enthusiasm and motivation- willingness to take risks- desire to solve-problems- someone who likes to experience learning
situations and try things in a hands-on manner
- ability to work individually and with others
Recruitment Process:• Information is disseminated to
counselors and community;• STEM Teachers host informational
sessions at ACPS middle schools; • Interested students complete applications
• General Student Information• Statement of Intent (Essay)• Recommendations
• STEM Academy Teachers interview students;• Teachers and administrators review ALL
COMPLETE applications, and select the most qualified candidates.
