The essentials
Air-admittance valves can be used in waste water pipes following theacknowledged rules of technology to reduce negative pressure.
In line with the harmonisation of waste water standards at European and national level, the installation recommendations are contained in DIN EN 12056-2 and DIN 1986-100.
Air-admittance valves can also be installed in deviation from the recommendations if when installing waste water systems certain structuralrequirements need to be taken into consideration. These can arise as aresult of the German Heat Insulation Ordinance, for building conservationreasons or because of structural requirements. Deviations from the standardare also possible in the case of contractually regulated installation.
Air-admittance valves must meet the requirements of DIN EN 12380 and belabelled with the relevant type class.
The relevant applicable national standards must be adhered to.

The description abusanitair ventilair air-admittance valve with construction surveillance approval, Class A I, means:• Tested by a third party, according to
DIN EN 12380 and classified in Class I• Subject to an annual sample test with
third-party supervision by the LGA (State Trade Office of Bavaria)
Class A means:• Suitable for installation below the back-
flow level (= the highest level that the water can reach in a drainage system). The air-admittance valve must be testedat 30 Pa, 500 Pa and 10,000 Pa.
Class I means:• Suitable for a temperature range of
between -20°C and +60°C

Air-admittance valves are used in order tocreate a balance of pressure in gravitydrainage systems.
• Absolutely vertical installation is essential; slanting or horizontal air-admittance valves will not function
• Accessibility must be ensured, for maintenance purposes
• In case of installation in concealed locations, a sufficient air supply must beavailable
• If fitted to a horizontal waste pipe, theair-admittance valve must be installed atleast one pipe-thickness vertically abovethe level of the pipe
• When installed underneath a roof withair insulation, the ambient temperaturemay not fall below -20°C
• Outdoor installation is not permissible
Our air-admittance valves open when thereis negative pressure in the pipe system,and close again after ventilation to become impermeable to odours andwater. If there is positive pressure or abalance of pressure in the system, thevalve remains closed. If the cross-sectionof the drainage system is reduced, a backflow develops. The positive pressurethat is created means that the valveremains closed. The required intake of aircan thus not take place.
• In areas where there is a risk of backflow
• In drainage systems which are connected to domestic sewage treatment plants (chamber pits)
• On discharge pipes in buildings in whichbathrooms/toilets are connected to thepipe on more than 3 floors
• On reservoirs, e.g. lifting or separatorsystems, which do not have a vent atroof level
• In installation situations where only ahorizontal or slanting position is possible

Our systems have been designed in sucha way that they can each be fitted with arubber connector to pipes of three different sizes: DN 100 – 80 – 70 and DN 50 – 40 – 32. The nominal connection diameters have been selected to make itpossible to fit the valve to a pipe of diameter DN 80 and DN 40 by inserting it into a sleeve. If the valve is to be inserted into a pipe without a sleeve, ofnominal width DN 100 or DN 50, the rubber connector has to be used. Fornominal diameters DN 70 and DN 32, therubber connector is used to allow thevalve to be pushed onto a pipe without asleeve. For non-standard pipe dimensions,adapters must be used.

In accessible external areas, for filteringarising gases in domestic sewer systems,toilet lifting systems, existing open vents,e.g. on oil tanks, grease traps, etc.
The ventilair active functions in a 2 waysystem.
This means that when positive pressuredevelops in systems, e.g. when filling lifting systems or containers, a balance ofpressure outwards occurs (see Fig. 1below and Chart 1 on page 10).
At the same time the gases and smells arising are held back by the activated carbon.
When pumping off lifting systems or containers negative pressure occurs in thesystem, which the ventilair active compensates with air flowing in from outside (see Fig. 2 below and Chart 2 onpage 10).
The filter insert is a multi-layer fabric, impregnated with active carbon. Life of the carbon filter: depending on loading, up to several years.
A toilet, a shower and a washbasin maybe connected to such a system. Here it ispossible to connect the ventilair activedirectly in the room where the above itemsare set up.
The ventilair active is not suitable fortwo-way venting of waste waterdowncomer pipes.
Suitable for vertical or horizontal installation (see Fig. 3 and 4 on page 10).
When installed horizontally the ventilairactive must be assembled with weather protection (e.g. concealed box art.no. 76 36 99).
We recommend also checking the activated carbon filter system when carrying out the required servicing ofsystems in which ventilair active is installed.
When odours are noticed, the filter pad isexhausted. Open the cap and replace thefilter insert.
For safety reasons installation should onlybe carried out in accessible outdoor areas,so that when the activated carbon is saturated no gases can get into the livingarea.
