I hope you all had a wonderful Thanks-
giving, full of joy and pie!
Our Quilto night was cancelled due
to an unfortunate gas leak at the li-
brary. Disappoint-ing, I know, but
don’t worry, you haven’t missed out
- we’ll reschedule in January.
Are you looking for-ward to the next
holiday? Sewing holiday gifts? Set
aside some time
from this hectic season to slow
down and quilt - you’ll feel better, I
promise!
December brings
Christmas, Chanu-kah and Kwanza.
No matter what you celebrate, come
celebrate it with us at our annual Holi-
day Social on De-cember 13. It’s a
great time to party with friends and to
spread (and re-ceive!) some holi-
day cheer.

Veteran's Day Soldier Blocks a Huge Success!
Thanks to everyone who helped make the Veteran's Day Sol-
ider Block. I have collected over 125
blocks and that is fantastic! I look for-
ward to the challenge of making the
blocks into quilts at our Charity Quilt-In
on January 27, 2018 at Burke United
Methodist Church. If you are still work-
ing on some blocks - bring them along!
Thanks, Libby Fritsche 703-638-9903

Charity Baby Quilts
We are definitely on a roll this year. Thanks to Linda Snow and her retreat crew we have 63
more preemie quilts to send to Children’s National Medical Center. Linda and crew prepared
precut kits for everyone at retreat to applique a small outline and quilt the 24” x 24” block in
any style the sewer wished. As you can see from the picture people showed their whimsical
side with the appliques. Thank you to everyone who took the time to make one of these lovely
isolate covers. I can’t wait to donate them to CNMC.
There were so many people the picture had to be taken in 2 parts. I attempted to mesh the two together. It is not perfect but everyone is represented! Thank you Hillary Segl for the photographs.
Fall Retreat Charity Project a HUGE Success!
We had so much fun at retreat catching up with old friends and making new friends. Many
projects were started and a few were completed. As usual, there was much sharing and
learning and laughter!
And the charity project exceeded our every dream! The response was amazing. The ladies
took the simple kits and went to town making NICU quilts. There was so much creativity!
Over 66 quilts were completed and will be delivered to Children’s National Medical Center
this month. Many more are in process and will be completed over the next few months.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Sunshine Blocks at Retreat One of the best parts of going to retreat is the time to spend not only sewing but visiting with friends and sharing the joy of creating some-thing new in fabric. One looks forward many weeks in advance to com-ing to retreat, but sometimes bad things happen and one is not able to attend. Well that happened to one of our most perennial members of Burke and one who has attended every retreat in memory. That per-son was Jean Taylor. To show how much we missed her and to help speed up her recovery each person at retreat was asked to make a sun-shine block and sign it for Jean. Here are the results!

The Quilters Unlimited Quilt Show will be held on June 1-3, 2018. The theme this year is
Puzzles – Just Piece It! The show challenge quilts must measure no larger than 40 x 40,
and must be show ready, measured and photographed by the end of February 2018. So dig
into your stash and start piecing together your own interpretation of Puzzles – Just Piece It!
Thanks
