Wood Shingle
These are sawn from wood bolts such as red cedar and have
an average life expectancy of about 30 years. The use of wood
shingle is now mainly limited to building restoration because
of its durability, weather-proofing and low costs.
SlateThis one has a pretty high cost in comparison in comparison to
wood shingles and has an average life expectancy of around
80 to 400 years. The highest quality slates usually come from
Australia, Wales and a few specific areas in Spain.
Asbestos Shingles
This one was one of the choicest roofing materials of our Calgary roofing company because of a number of reasons. They have a very long life span and are also fireproof at the same time. But currently, their popularity has decreased a lot because of health issues. Hence, we have also more or less discarded the use of asbestos shingles for roofing purposes unless we’re asked to do so in special circumstances.
Ceramic tiles
These are costly indeed but they do have a high average
life of more than 100 years which is something comes
almost guaranteed with them. There are usually four types
of ceramic tiles that are used for roofing purposes: Imbrex
and tegula, Dutch roof tiles, Monk & Nun, Mangalore tiles.
Membrane RoofingMembrane roofing is usually done through the aid of large
sheets that are fused in some way at the joints to create a
continuous surface. Some of the types of membranes used are
EPDM rubber, thermoplastics, asphalt roll roofing and
bituminous waterproofing. The longevity of membrane roofing
usually varies according to the climate and use.
